In the page load event I assigned DropDownList's DataSource property to a valid list. On the submit button click.. the same DataSource property is coming as null. Why?

As ViewState is not storing the DataSource property.

We have to use Items property of DropDownList to get the items back. (More...)

Explain differences between the page execution lifecycle of an ASP.NET page and an ASP.NET AJAX page?

In an asynchronous model, all the server side events occur, as they do in a synchronous model. The Microsoft AJAX Library also raises client side events. However when the page is rendered, asynchronous postback renders only the contents of the update panel, where as in a synchronous postback, the entire page is recreated and sent back to the browser. What methods are fired during the page load?

Init() - when the pageis instantiated,
Load() - when the page is loaded into server memory,
PreRender() - the brief moment before the page is displayed to the user asHTML,
Unload() - when page finishes loading.

How can we call javascript function in page load event?

this.button.Attributes.Add("OnClick",return functionname(););

You are working on an ASP.NET application. One of the drop down list contans 1 lakh records. The page posting becomes very slow. How to overcome this? You just need the selected index of the dropdownlist on submit.

Use EnableVieState=false. On the dropdown change event, set a hidden field value to the selected index.

Disabling view state helps us in reducing the postback load. (More...)

What are different stages of ASP.Net Page Life cycle?

Each ASP.Net Web page performs following stages/events

Page Initialization (Page_Init event)
Page Loading (Page_Load event)
Page Prerender (Page_Prerender)
Page Render (Page_Render)
Page Unload (Page_Unload)

what are the list the events in page life cycle.

Below is the list of page life cycle in asp.net-
1) Page_PreInit
2) Page_Init
3) Page_InitComplete
4) Page_PreLoad

xplain about 'page lifecycle' of ASP.NET MVC ?

The page lifecycle of an ASP.NET MVC page is explained as follows:

i) App Initialisation
In this stage, the aplication starts up by running Global.asax's Application_Start() method.
In this method, you can add Route objects to the static RouteTable.Routes collection.
If you're implementing a custom IControllerFactory, you can set this as the active controller factory by assigning it to the System.Web.Mvc.ControllerFactory.Instance property.

ii) Routing
Routing is a stand-alone component that matches incoming requests to IHttpHandlers by URL pattern.
MvcHandler is, itself, an IHttpHandler, which acts as a kind of proxy to other IHttpHandlers configured in the Routes table.

iii) Instantiate and Execute Controller
At this stage, the active IControllerFactory supplies an IController instance.

iv) Locate and invoke controller action
At this stage, the controller invokes its relevant action method, which after further processing, calls RenderView().

v) Instantiate and render view
At this stage, the IViewFactory supplies an IView, which pushes response data to the IHttpResponse object.

If you are using C language to implement the heterogeneous linked list, what pointer type will you use?

The heterogeneous linked list contains different data types in its nodes and we need a link, pointer to connect them. It is not possible to use ordinary pointers for this. So we go for void pointer. Void pointer is capable of storing pointer to any type as it is a generic pointer type. (More...)

List the Coffman's conditions that lead to a deadlock.

1. Mutual Exclusion: Only one process may use a critical resource at a time.

2. Hold & Wait: A process may be allocated some resources while waiting for others.

3. No Pre-emption: No resource can be forcible removed from a process holding it.

4. Circular Wait: A closed chain of processes exist such that each process holds at least one resource needed by another process in the chain. (More...)
