Explain about data provider?

Posted By :Akhil Raj     Posted Date :July 23, 2009    Points :10   Category :ADO.Net
ADO.NET has two primary parts in its architecture out of which one is data provider. It has its own set of objects and it consists of its own classes. Some of them are connection, parameter, data reader, command and data adapter. This provides access to data sources such as Oracle, SQL server, etc.

Explain the steps involved to populate dataset with data?

Open connection.;
Initialize Adapter passing SQL and connection as parameter.;
Initialize Dataset.;
Call Fill method of the adapter passes dataset as the parameter.;

What are advantages and disadvantages of Microsoft-provided data provider classes in ADO.NET?

SQLServer.NET data provider is high-speed and robust, but requires SQL Server license purchased from Microsoft. OLE-DB.NET is universal for accessing other sources, like Oracle, DB2, Microsoft Access and Informix, but it's a .NET layer on top of OLE layer, so not the fastest thing in the world. ODBC.NET is a deprecated layer provided for backward compatibility to ODBC engines. (More...)

Explain Constraints Of Data Integrity?

i) A PRIMARY KEY constraint is a unique identifier for a row within a database table. Every table should have a primary key constraint to uniquely identify each row and only one primary key constraint can be created for each table. The primary key constraints are used to enforce entity integrity.

ii) A UNIQUE constraint enforces the uniqueness of the values in a set of columns, so no duplicate values are entered. The unique key constraints are used to enforce entity integrity as the primary key constraints.

iii) A FOREIGN KEY constraint prevents any actions that would destroy links between tables with the corresponding data values. A foreign key in one table points to a primary key in another table. Foreign keys prevent actions that would leave rows with foreign key values when there are no primary keys with that value. The foreign key constraints are used to enforce referential integrity.

iv) A CHECK constraint is used to limit the values that can be placed in a column. The check constraints are used to enforce domain integrity.

v) A NOT NULL constraint enforces that the column will not accept null values. The not null constraints are used to enforce domain integrity, as the check constraints. (More...)

Explain what is Extender provider component? How to use this in the project?

This is a component which provides properties and features to other components or controls. This mechanism is usually used in windows forms applications. The examples of extender provider components are ToolTip, HelpProvider, and ErrorProvider etc.

Use an extender provider in your project:
. With the help of ProvidePropertyAttribute, you can specify the name of the property that an implementer of IExtenderProvider provides to other controls, attribute to specify the property.
. Then use the provided property and try to find which control receives your provided property.
. After that use IExtenderProvider, this defines the interface for extending properties to other components. (More...)

b) .Net framework data provider for OLEDB
c) .Net framework data provider for ODBC
d) .Net framework data provider for Oracle. (More...)

Explain Types of Data Source in .net?

DataSource: Allow data binding on Win Form Controls.
Types of DataSource:
1) Database 2) Service3) Object.
Database :Lets you connect to a database and choose the database objects for your application. This option creates a dataset.
Service:Opens the Add Service Reference dialog box that lets you create a connection to a service that returns the data for your application.
Object:Lets you choose an object that can later be used to generate data-bound controls. (More...)

Difference between OLEDB Provider and SqlClient ?

SQLClient .NET classes are highly optimized for the .net / sqlserver combination and achieve optimal results. The SqlClient data provider is fast. It's faster than the Oracle provider, and faster than accessing database via the OleDb layer. It's faster because it accesses the native library (which automatically gives you better performance), and it was written with lots of help from the SQL Server team. (More...)
