What are basic components of Notification services?
Notification Services applications are based on a subscriber/subscription model.
The Key components in a Notification Services application are
A user or application that requests and receives the notification
A request for information, delivery mechanism, and destination for requested notifications. For example change of a stock price.
A piece of information, in which the subscriber is interested. For example as soon as a stock price has changed an event can be generated that's processed within SQLNS.
A message containing the information requested by the subscriber in the subscription
What is Application Domain?
The primary purpose of the AppDomain is to isolate an application from other applications. Win32 processes provide isolation by having distinct memory address spaces. This is effective, but it is expensive and doesn't scale well. The .NET runtime enforces AppDomain isolation by keeping control over the use of memory - all memory in the AppDomain is managed by the .NET runtime, so the runtime can ensure that AppDomains do not access each other's memory.
Objects in different application domains communicate either by transporting copies of objects across application domain boundaries, or by using a proxy to exchange messages.
MarshalByRefObject is the base class for objects that communicate across application domain boundaries by exchanging messages using a proxy. Objects that do not inherit from MarshalByRefObject are implicitly marshal by value. When a remote application references a marshal by value object, a copy of the object is passed across application domain boundaries.
I have written an assembly that I want to use in more than one application. Where do I deploy it?
Assemblies that are to be used by multiple applications (for example, shared assemblies) are deployed to the global assembly cache. In the prerelease and Beta builds, use the /i option to the Alink SDK tool to install an assembly into the cache:
A future version of the Windows Installer will be able to install assemblies into the global assembly cache.
What is an application domain?
An application domain (often AppDomain) is a virtual process that serves to isolate an application. All objects created within the same application scope (in other words, anywhere along the sequence of object activations beginning with the application entry point) are created within the same application domain. Multiple application domains can exist in a single operating system process, making them a lightweight means of application isolation.
An OS process provides isolation by having a distinct memory address space. While this is effective, it is also expensive, and does not scale to the numbers required for large web servers. The Common Language Runtime, on the other hand, enforces application isolation by managing the memory use of code running within the application domain. This ensures that it does not access memory outside the boundaries of the domain. It is important to note that only type-safe code can be managed in this way (the runtime cannot guarantee isolation when unsafe code is loaded in an application domain).
Describe the techniques for optimising your application?
. Avoid round-trips to server. Perform validation on client.
. Save viewstate only when necessary.
. Employ caching.
. Leave buffering on unless there is a dire need to disable it.
. Use connection pooling.
. Use stored procedures instead of in-line SQL or dynamic SQL.
Differences between application and session.
The session object maintains state on a per client basis whereas the application object is on a per application basis and is consistent across all client requests.
What is web application virtual directory?
A virtual directory appears to client browsers as though it were
contained in a Web server's root directory, even though it can physically Reside somewhere else.
Can .NET Framework components be used from a COM program?
Managed types you build today can be made accessible from COM, and in the common case the configuration is totally automatic. There are certain new features of the managed development environment that are not accessible from COM. For example, static methods and parameterized constructors cannot be used from COM. In general, it is a good idea to decide in advance who the intended user of a given type will be. If the type is to be used from COM, you may be restricted to using those features that are COM accessible.
Depending on the language used to write the managed type, it may or may not be visible by default.
Specifically, .NET Framework components are accessed from COM by using a COM callable wrapper (CCW). This is similar to an RCW (see previous question), but works in the opposite direction. Again, if the .NET Framework development tools cannot automatically generate the wrapper, or if the automatic behavior is not what you want, a custom CCW can be developed.
what is different between session and application
session is a object that store information between http request for a paticular user.
->But application object are global for each user
What are the essential components of SQL Server Service broker?
Service Broker uses queues to provide loose coupling between the message sender and the message receiver. The sender can put a message in a queue and then continue on with the application, relying on Service Broker to ensure that the message reaches its destination. Queues permit a lot of scheduling flexibility.
Dialogs are bidirectional streams of messages between two endpoints. All messages in a dialog are ordered, and dialog messages are always delivered in the order they are sent. The order is maintained across transactions, across input threads, across output threads, and across crashes and restarts.
It's a way of grouping all the dialogs that are used for a particular task. All the dialogs associated with processing a particular order would be grouped into a single conversation group. The conversation group is implemented as a conversation group identifier, which is included with all messages in all dialogs contained in the conversation group. When a message is received from any of the dialogs in a conversation group, the conversation group is locked with a lock that is held by the receiving transaction. For the duration of the transaction, only the thread that holds the lock can receive messages from any of the dialogs in the conversation group. This makes our order entry application much easier to write because even though we use many threads for scalability, any particular order is only processed on one thread at a time. This means we don't have to make our application resilient to problems that are caused by the simultaneous processing of a single order on multiple threads.
You use the activation feature of Service Broker to specify a stored procedure that will handle messages destined for a particular service. When messages arrive for a service, Service Broker checks whether there is a stored procedure running that can process the messages. If there isn't a running message-processing stored procedure, Service Broker starts one. The stored procedure then processes messages until the queue is empty, after which it terminates. Moreover, if Service Broker determines that messages are arriving faster than the stored procedure can process them, it starts additional instances of the stored procedure until enough are running to keep up with the incoming messages (or until the configured maximum number is reached). This ensures that the right number of resources for processing incoming messages are always available.
What is the best place to start Silverlight application?
There is no hard and fast rule to start Silverlight application. Every developer can start as per his/her experience.
like as per my case I always prefer Visual Studio. SO, in my view Visual Studio is the best place to start with Silverlight2 applications.Microsoft provides
templates for creating Silverlight applications and libraries in C#
and Visual Basic.
Can you elaborate how to start a silverlight application with Visual Studio?
You can find a fully described article from http://www.silverlightclub.com/resources/1858-silverlight-lets-start-building-applications.aspx.aspx
In the following step(s) I am giving the ideas all about:
1.Create a project:Here you just start your visual studio, Select your programming language [C#/VB], Choose Silverligh Template give the name and save it
2. Adding SIlverlight COntrols:One thing is happened here, controls cannot dragged onto the designer, you can draw/drag the controls on XAML page.
(a) Naming to control:In this step just give the name to your silverligt control like for Button you can give name as : btnmySilverligtButton
(b)Adding event handlers to Silverlight controls:Here you can give the event handlers like for click etc.
(c)Testing Silverlight applications in Visual Studio:Now just press F5 and test your application
What happened when I press F5 within Visual Studio to run Silverlight application?
When you run the Silverlight application within Visual Studio, a new folder created in the web-site project for silverlight solution and it happened only first time. The folder name is ClientBin and having package with XAP extension which contains compiled project.
Can I add more than one .xaml pages in silverlight application?
Yes, you can have multiple .xaml files in a single project.
In the App.xaml, in the method Application_Startup you can choose, which page you want to
