Hello, I am changing the type of authentication in SharePoint to Form authentication.I create a document Library and I choose as a Document Model (Microsoft Office Word 2007). The problem is : "I can't create a new Item Document Word". It disappear.   I am using this article (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sharepoint/archive/2009/05/13/update-on-sharepoint-forms-based-authentication-fba-and-office-client.aspx ) to solve my problem. The problem is I don't find the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Internet\FormsBasedAuthSettings

Forms based users being prompted for windows authentication login for My Sites photos in user lists

Here's an issue I didn't see coming for our forms based authentication users.

We have a web application extended to an external url to handle forms based authentication for users outside of our domain. Our setup looks like this...

Internal Users/Windows Authentication - moss.domain.com
External Users/Forms Based - mossext.domain.com
My Site for Internal Users - mysites.domain.com

When our forms based users are accessing user lists, or discussion pages that display user pictures, they are getting a windows authentication login for our internal users (mysites.domain.com) who have populated their my site with personal photo.

How do we fix this?

Cannot Login with Forms Based Authentication to SharePoint 2010 - Issue with the SecurityTokenServic

Please be advised I have followed the steps on http://donalconlon.wordpress.com/2010/02/23/configuring-forms-base-authentication-for-sharepoint-2010-using-iis7/. I have tried to fix the following issue for a week using different farms and SharePoint 2010 installations, however I am getting the following error when trying to authenticate using Forms Based into a Claims site: Cannot get Membership Provider with name FBARoleProvider The membership provider for this process was not properly configured. You must configure the membership provider in the .config file for every SharePoint process. 1. I am certain the membership provider is configured in the SecurityTokenServiceApplication webservice as I can manage users and roles in IIS7 using the SecurityTokenServiceApplication website. 2. I am certain that membership provider is configured in the both the Claims Web Application and Central Admin as I can manage users and roles in IIS7 using their websites. 3. I know the issue is the SecurityTokenServiceApplication service as I had to set <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" /> to get the error above. 4. I can log into the Claims Based Application using windows authentication, however I am unable to see the users on the people picker despite that I can see them from the application's site on IIS

Forms Based Authentication in SharePoint 2010

I'm trying to figure out how to setup FBA in SharePoint 2010.  I know that FBA is now just a subset of Claims Based Authentication, but I'm confused by some of the different approaches that I've seen on some technet blogs:

Having seen the two, one doesn't setup a SQL while one does.  Both are vague in the user account that is used to manage the FBA users.  I'd like to get some clarification if that's possible.  Thanks in advance!

SharePoint forms authentication and web services

We have a WSS 3.0 site that uses forms authentication using a custom SQL Server 2000 database. My goal is to log into the site with a Blackberry phone and display list items in small aspx pages formatted for the Blackberry browser.

I'm in that prototyping phase, learning what I can and cannot do with each approach. Initially I wanted to use the SP web services to authenticate and use the resulting cookie in subsequent web service calls. I have not been able to get the authentication web service working yet. My other idea was to use the native mobile login page to authenticate. Then I should be able to use the SP object model to fetch and display lists on other pages.

I saw postings that the SP web services don't work with forms authentication but also saw posts indicating success.

What's the final answer on that one? I'd just as soon avoid unnecessary paths.

Has anyone actually done something like this?

Thanks for the help!

WCF over SSL with Forms Authentication on a Sharepoint Server

I want create web services in SP over SSL via Forms Authentication so I can consume them in a WPF app. The services seem fine as I can navigate to them via the browser and they don't throw an error. The SSL is done by a self certificate so I get a warning in my WPF when I create my service reference. However I added some code to override certificate checking as this is a learning exercise and I want to tackle one thing at a time. The web config for the web service is below but when I use this code in my client I get an error :

An error occurred when verifying security for the message.

Here is the stack trace: googling seems to point to resyncing my machines clock but the client and server are on the same machine.

Logged in Username in Sharepoint 2010 Forms Based Authentication

When using forms based authentication in Sharepoint 2010, suppose user is logged in with username "admin" and our custom membership provider name is "FBAProvider"... After logging in with this account, logged in user name is displayed like "i:0#.|FBAProvider|admin". How can make it display as it should be like just "admin"?

Thanks in advance,

SharePoint 2007, Forms Based Authentication and Microsoft Office Protocol Discovery

On a SharePoint 2007 extranet site using FBA the Microsoft Office Protocol Discovery Options request is causing multiple authentication requests that must be closed. The best proposed "solution" I've found is to disable client integration for that zone. Has any other solution been found?

SharePoint Tutorial - Team Sites

Team sites are small web sites that are created to store everything about a particular thing. For example a site can be created for a department in an organization like human resources. I site can be created for a particular project. A site can even be created for a meeting. Everything about the thing (department, project, meeting) like documents, lists, calendars, etc. is stored in that site.

This module explains how forms authentication works in ASP.NET version 2.0. It explains how IIS and ASP.NET authentication work together, and it explains the role and operation of the FormsAuthenticationModule class.

Using Forms Authentication in ASP.NET - Part 1

Classic ASP developers often had to "roll their own" authentication scheme, however, in ASP.NET much of the grunt work has been taken out. This article outlines how things have changed and how FormsAuthentication can be used to secure a Web site with a minimal amount of code.

ASP.NET Forms Authentication - Part 1

Often, in legacy Web applications, users authenticate themselves via a Web form. This Web form submits the user's credentials to business logic that determines their authorization level. Upon successful authentication, the application then submits a ticket in the form of a cookie, albeit a hard cookie or session variable. This ticket contains anything from just a valid session identification access token to customized personalization values.

ASP.NET forms authentication with roles

.A timeout is specified in minutes. This is "time since last request" not the "time since login". If a login is indicated to be persistent (described later) this is ignored.
.A protection method is specified for the cookie.
Next I wanted to specify a folder to which access is restricted to people who have logged in. To do this I entered the following code in the web.config file (beneath

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

Problems with Forms Authentication in DD 4 site

Hello,  I am seeing a strange problem with Forms Authentication in my DD site.   A user logs into and can view/edit/delete data all day, but when they execute a Custom Filter against data (for example , a control DynamicData/Filters/CustomerLastNameSearch.ascx ) then the site auth fails, and redirects to the log in screen.

in web.config I have

     <authentication mode="Forms">
            <forms name=".Star" loginUrl="~/Login.aspx" protection="All" defaultUrl="~/Default.aspx" path="/" timeout="43200" cookieless="UseCookies" />

Offhand, I am thinking two things : that DynamicData/Filters path requires some special handling for some reason, or the control extension ascx is causing auth to get confused.   Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?  Thanks!

Sharepoint My Sharepoint Sites not updating.

The sharepoint My Sharepoint Sites list will not update.  It last updated with the results from 4/22/10. I determined that by looking in out Share Sevices Administration  database in the memberGroup table.  It shows current entries for everything prefaced by Mailto:   So the distribution groups are updating however, nothing is updating for the actual sites.  New sites have been added since this time and Membership in the Members group of these sites has  changed as well but none of these changes have been reflected i nthe My sharepoint sites.   These changes also do not appear in the My Memberships portion of someone's My Site.  Any suggestions?

We are running Sharepoint 2007 SP2 with W.S.S. 3.0 on a Windows srver 2003 R2 SP2 server.    No changes were made to the system on the date in question.  Perhaps 3 new team sites has been added in the days leading up to the problem.

We see no errors in any of the timer jobs or the event logs that appear related to the issue.
