Custom Workflow won't auto start, but only for one user.

Hi, I have a custom worklfow which is associated with a list.  The workflow is set to auto start when a new item is added to the list.  This happens fine for every user in my organisation, but not for one particular user.  When he submits a new item to the list, nothing happens. The Workflow just will not start.  There are no errors in the log and no attempt is made to start the workflow.  The user is part of a SharePoint group which has contirbute (no delete) permission on the list, just like everyone else in that group who works fine.

This user also is having problems progressing the workflow, if I start the workflow for him and assign it to him.

The workflow above, manages a CR process, creating tasks for users, taking their responses from custom task forms and populating a CR document held in a document library.  The first step for a user is to fill in a task form which when submitted, sets the task to 100% complete, then populates the CR document with the text the user entered.  Once the task is at 100%, the workflow process is looking for this, closes the task and creates a new task for an approver.  The problem for this same is user is that, the task gets set to 100%, but the CR doesn't progress.  Again, no errors are shown, but the tp_workflowversion value in the userdata table in the content datab

SharePoint 2007 Workflows - Things to Consider Before You Start

SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) utilizes the Workflow Foundation (WF) to enable workflows on lists and content types. But before you start doing cartwheels there are few things you should know before you get started. The experiences I'll be discussing are not from book smarts but from building real MOSS solutions that are in production today.

User Preferences: Manage User Settings in Your .NET App with a Custom Preferences API

There are plenty of options out there for managing user preferences including custom configuration files, the Windows registry, and the isolated storage. But each option has its pros and cons -- and a bad choice can make life difficult. In this article, the author evaluates various options and identifies the characteristics of a good preferences API. Based on those characteristics, he introduces an API that is specifically designed for preferences management, one that offers the best of all the options.

InfoPath: Turn User Input into XML with Custom Forms Using Office InfoPath 2003

Office InfoPath 2003 is a new Microsoft Office product that lets you design your own data collection forms that, when submitted, turn the user-entered data into XML for any XML-supporting process to use. With an InfoPath solution in place, you can convert all those commonly used paper forms into Microsoft Office-based forms and end the cycle of handwriting and reentering data into your systems. Today organizations are beginning to realize the value of the mountains of data they collect every day, how hard it is to access it, and are striving to mine it effectively. InfoPath will aid in the design of effective data collection systems. Here the author shows you how to get started.

Large document libraries with a custom user interface

We recently migrated our document management system to SharePoint (WSS 3.0) and I adapted my VB6 client application to search for and retrieve a list of documents from this new SharePoint library using the Lists web service. Although the total number of documents in this library is 90,000 at one site and over 145,000 at another, my VB6 application never retrieves more than 600-700 documents at a time. From reading white papers such as "Working with Large Lists in Office SharePoint Server 2007" (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=95450&clcid=0x409), it appears that if my custom user interface limits the number of items returned in a search of these large lists, that it may not be necessary to put these documents into folders. However, our current scanning software, KnowledgeLake Capture, by default places newly scanned documents into folders based on the year, month, day and hour, which means that these documents are placed in nested folders 4 levels deep.

There are also some 20 metadata fields on these document libraries that allow us to filter these document libraries so that search results will in most cases be limited to a few hundred items.

We acquired new servers (Windows Server 2008 with SQL Server 2008) to host our SharePoint libraries and we are running WSS 3.0 S

Where is StartPage.cproj : Custom Start Page Project Template

I am reading through Wrox Professional Visual Studio 2010.
In Chapter 3, there is an example of how to customize and extend the start page.

So he wants you to copy the files from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\StartPages\<Culture>
C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\Visual Studio 10\StartPages. He say you may need to create this because it may not exist by default. So I would just copy the files into:
C:\Documents and Settings\Sam\My Documents\Visual Studio 2010\StartPages and work from there right?

Then he says double click StartPage.csproj to opent the WPF project in Visual Studio 2010.
But StartPage.csproj simply does not exist anywhere.

I have installed Visual Studio 2010 sdk and the Custom Start Page Project which shows up in extension manager.
I just can't figure out how to use it.

I am on Windows XP.

Should I use WWF for custom document approval workflows?

Before I dive into yet another behemoth MS framework, maybe a little guidance for the simple but dynamic workflows that I will need to be dealing with. Document approval with n approvers both sequential and parallel QA assignment of helpdesk case to check that case was handled properly (needs to add disposition). Collaboration workflow where domain object may pass between several people to complete pieces of the job and result in a fully-qualified dohickey when the workflow ends. My strong impression from some of the other posts I have read here is that WWF would be overkill and possibly even a nightmare compared with a home-grown solution here.  Our use cases primarily will deal with activities going to people to complete and pass to the next level... Thanks a ton! Dave

Custom User Profile Views or Reports

Hi, I'm wondering if it's possible to easily create reports or views for user profiles. For example, I want a list of all user profiles where the picture field is blank, though on other occasions I may want to check if Manager is blank, or Office = Sydney, etc. When in Shared Services Admin the 'View User Profiles' view doesn't give me any options to create a new view, add columns to the view or do anything basically. The standard view I look at just contains Account Name, Preferred Name and Email Address. There must be a way of getting this information out of Central Admin. Thanks, Paul.

Unable to start user profile synchronization service

Hello, I have the following problem. user profile synchronization service doesn't start up, with the following error in log: The service encryption keys could not be found. Permissions for registry are availabele. Thank you.

current user identity in custom security trimmer

The crux of my problem is that I want to impersonate  a user’s NTLM credentials in the context of a SharePoint custom security trimmer to execute HttpWebRequests to check user access to URLs.  When accessing WindowsIdentity.GetCurent() in the security trimmer, the System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity object returns the identity of the application pool running the search query service, NOT the currently logged in user.   When accessing System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrinciple.Identity in the security trimmer, the Microsoft.IdentityModel.Claims.ClaimsIdentity object of the current logged in user is returned.  However, there is a catch.  …   If I execute the following code in a .NET web application, the cast of the ClaimsIdentity to a WindowsIdentity succeeds because the identity has the authentication type of NTLM.    WindowsIdentity winId = (WindowsIdentity)System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity; WindowsImpersonationContext wic = winId.Impersonate(); request.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; //access means a response comes back when a request is made to the url using (HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse()) { returnStatus = true; } wic.Undo(); However, when I execute the same code in the context of the SharePoint security trimmer (the search query service li

Object Cache set with Portal Super User accounts. Access denied to site.

I have the same issue on multiple farms. In this example i'll outline this problem for a three tier farm. SharePoint web server SharePoint Application server (hosts central admin) Sql server After installation and configuration i have created two web applications (claims based auth with NTLM). https://portal.contoso.com https://mysite.contoso.com The client connects on the URLs to the web server (1st tier). All is working correctly and they can access the portal and their mysite. The log file keeps reporting that i need to configure the user accounts for the Object Chache. So, i looked up the required steps and executed these conform mcrosoft guidelines (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff758656.aspx) All the steps run seccesfully. But when i connect to the URL i now get an access denied (even with the administrator who is site collection administrator) In the log file i get the following to lines when i connect to the site. Unknown SPRequest error occurred. More information: 0x80070002 Unknown SPRequest error occurred. More information: 0x80070005 I have exact the same issue on two other farms. Marc
