Can someone explain this assembly in WSP deployment behavior?

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I was building a SP timer Job feature. Upon successive feature deployment and retractions using the Visual Studio environment the code changes were not being deployed. I dug around and found this in the AssemblyInfo.cs // You can specify all the values or you can default the Build and Revision Numbers // by using the '*' as shown below: // [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.*")] So I changed what was the following line from [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.0.0")] to the stated [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.*")] and all is well (yippee). This seems to make good sense to me. But why is it not the default build/deploy setting? Is there an IDE interface for this setting. Is it related to the the Solution Configuration or build target or an IIS reset timing or GAC cache.....anything like that?

Could not load file or assembly - Web Deployment Project

Hi,

I have the following projects in a solution :

- A Web Application

- A Class Library

- A Web Deployment project

The Web Application compiles and run fine when I don't go through the Web Deployment Project. However when I try to use that, I get the following error:

Error 1 An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for hibernate-configuration: Could not load file or assembly 'NHibernate' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (F:\Folke\Folke.csproj_deploy\Release\web.config line 4) 1 1 Folke.csproj_deploy

"An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for hibernate-configuration: Could not load file or assembly 'NHibernate' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (F:\Folke\Folke.csproj_deploy\Release\web.config line 4)"

This is the beginning of my Web.config:

Error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Failed to load receiver assembly

Guys,

I've created a VS2010 sharepoint project and added a feature event receiver to my site definition. When I try to deploy it show me the error bellow:

Error 1 Error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Failed to load receiver assembly "SiteDefinitionProject2, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=a693a58979940483" for feature "SiteDefinitionProject2_Feature1" (ID: 9dce3ed9-5eb0-4bea-b42d-4dad84559a36).: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'SiteDefinitionProject2, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=a693a58979940483' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Very confused about assembly deployment.

I want to ask about this question specifically because it has now become my main holdup.

My solution contains a database project and a single SQL/CLR assembly project.

When I run Build -> Deploy Solution it fails with error 6541: "ALTER ASSEMBLY failed because assembly 'SqlClrAssembly' has more than one file associated with it. Use ALTER ASSEMBLY DROP FILE to remove extra files."

But I if I select Build -> Deploy SqlClrAssembly it works fine.

In the first case it runs a script named after the database project and in the latter it runs a script named after the actual CLR assembly project. This latter script is "better" because it has the DROP FILE option specified for the assembly.

So what is going on here?

Should I run the database project's deploy or just the Assembly project's deploy?

If I should run the database project's deploy how can I force it to include the DROP FILE option in the ALTER ASSEMBLY?

If I should not run the database project's deploy, then why on earth do I even need this database project?

Also, it appears that the .pdb and src files are being deployed intermittently and I have no idea what influences this, if I run a select * on [sys].[assembly_files] it looks like the src and pdb are not there, yet yesterday they were, hence I cannot set breakpoints or debug.

Deployment error system.data.sqlserverce version 3.5.1.0 glabal assembly cache

I have upgraded my development environment from Visual C# 2008 Express on Windows XP to Visual C# 2010 Express running on Windows 7 that uses SQLCE SP2.  I use a private deployment of the SQLCE 32-bit and 64-bit libaries and for the past year has wworked fine deploying to all systems.  Since upgrading I have been unable to produce a successful deployment.  I get an error almost immediately when my program attempts to update

system.data.sqlserverce version 3.5.1.0 glabal assembly cache

I have been attempting to do the deployment on a Windows 7 64 bit machine.  Does anybody have any ideas what I can do to eliminate this issue.  I have ensure that my build is targeting .NET 3.5

Custom Editing Behavior for DataGridView TextBox Columns

For various reasons I'm using a DataGridView instead of a ListView, and while configuring the DataGridView to look like a ListView wasn't much of a problem, there's one thing that got on my nerves, which is the behavior of textbox cells in edit mode: It is much too easy to leave the edit mode accidentally, simply by pressing the cursor keys at the wrong time. For example when the text caret is positioned behind the last character of the textbox cell content, and you press the right arrow key

Run Button Behavior: Suggestion/Bug

Note: This could be a bug or considered as suggestion. I am not looking for solution.

1: I have ImageWatermark.cshtml open and currently in focus.

2: I have Photo1.jpg selected in left Files workspace.

3: Now if I Click "Run", instead of opening ImageWatermark.cshtml it trys to open Photo1.jpg and it fails.

So ideally I would expect the "open file (ImageWatermark.cshtml) to run rather than running the selection from Workspace.

Error: Encountered multiple versions of the same assembly with GUID...try pre-importing...TlbImp

Hi!  Can someone tell me how I can troubleshoot the following error: "Encountered multiple versions of the same assembly with GUID...try pre-importing one of these assemblies".

The website developed in VS 2010 (.Net 3.5). This error is only received on my workstation.  Another person developing the site does not experience this issue at all.  Also, not sure if this matters, but on my workstation the 'Assembly Information...' dialog contains no values even though the 'AssemblyInfo.vb' file does specify values for the title, desc, etc.  The GUID being referenced in the error is the main project of the three projects within the solution.

I tried looking through the GAC, but do not see any references to the projects or DLLs in the VS solution and am not sure what else/where to look.

If I delete the copy of the solution on my local machine and pull down a copy from source control (AnkhSVN) the solution will build with no error.  Once I make any changes, such as adding a new aspx file, then the error is received.

I can provide any additional information needed.

The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must

Hi,

This is frustrating, and I don't know how to solve it.

I have a strange problem. I am adding a LinqDatasource object, and set the context:

        protected void LinqDataSource_ContextCreating(object sender, LinqDataSourceContextEventArgs e)
        {
            e.ObjectInstance = new KaruselaDataContext(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
        }

Then I get this error:
The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

On web.config I already have this:
<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>

NOTE: The datacontext is in a different project (DLL proect) where I added a refernce to System.Data.Linq.

is there another way adding a refernce to a web project? or only though teh web.config?

Thanks.

MySql.Data assembly problem

Hi,

I added refernece MySql.Data to my project. My web.config looks like that:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
    <connectionStrings>
    </connectionStrings>
    <system.web>
        <compilation>
            <assemblies>
                <add assembly="MySql.Data, Version=6.1.4.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=C5687FC88969C44D"/>
            </assemblies>
    </compilation></system.web></configuration>

But when in ServerExplorer I try "Add Connection..." I can't find "MySql Database" in the "Choose Data Source" dialog box?

What the problem can be?

Debugging ASHX after deployment

Hi,

I'm finished with a part of my ASHX handler and need to test it against the software that'll be calling it using HTTP POST. The software required an https url so I created an internally hosted site in IIS and published the project there.

Question now is how do I do any debugging on the script to see what data is coming out of it before the data goes back into the software that's calling it? Do I set something on the project itself to be able to step into the published DLL?

Registering controls of current assembly object reference NOT set error

Hi There,

I have created a simple ASP.net Web Application (2.0) and have added a web user control.

Now in my page I have added this control but I have registered like this,

<%@ Register Assembly="WebApplication1" Namespace="WebApplication1" TagPrefix="Custom" %>

Which means I want to access all the controls in my current Web Application project

Then I have added my user control like this,

<Custom:MyUserControl ID="MyUserControl1" runat="server" PublicProperty="Hello" />

Every thing is fine but when I execute the project, NO control on my user control gets "instantiated" and thus I receive error "Object Reference Not Set"

Note that My Control has,

1) Public property PublicProperty as String

2) 1 Label control

In Load Event Handler I am setting Text property of Label Control to PublicProperty. Here object reference NOT set error occurs (which means Label control is NOT initialized).

I don't want to register my control using Src, TagPrefix etc. Any ideas?

Thanks

Word Automation - Multiple DCOM Errors/Behavior

Before I get started, I already know that Microsoft does not support and highly discourages server-based MS Office automation.  I've read a multitude of posts and smarmy "*wink*, here's a link" replies, so I'm looking for actual help here, not condescending reprimands.

That notwithstanding, here is my problem.  I have developed a simple method that will open a local Word document, modify some header information, and then save the document as a new file.  As expected, it works great as a console/windows app, but as soon as I went to ASP.NET, DCOM jacked my world up when accessing the app remotely from a different domain account (that has access to the ASP.NET app.  For reference, my method is shown below:

1 public static string ModifyAndSaveBuildDocument(string localFilePath, BuildDocumentType docType, string buildNumber, DateTime buildDate, string projectName)
2            {
3                try
4                {
5                    ProjectConfiguration config = (ProjectConfiguration)ConfigurationManager.GetSection("ProjectConfiguration");

Multiple MSIs from one deployment project

We have several .NET based products for which we need to generate multiple MSI files to allow for multiple instances of the same app to be installed on the same machine.  For instance, we might have a single server running version of the app that are pointed at either test or QA databases, or may use the same server box to deploy the product for multuple clients.  (So, for instance, our web server might have separate installs of the same code in different locations for product names "Client A test", "Client A QA", "Client B Test", etc., where the only real differences are in the web.cionfig files that are not overwritten by the install of a new version.)

Right now we simply have a deployment project for each named variation of the app.  This works, but is likely to become a maintenance mess as the number of instances grows.  We'd like to be able to maintain only a single deployment project and script the creation of multiple MSIs, one for each product variation, after the build of a baseline MSI.

As I understand it, this should be acheivable by building the MSI, then for each possible instance, making a copy of the MSI and giving it a unique ProductCode and PackageCode; this way Windows should recognize each instance as a unique application.  I've done this (as well as changing the produc

web deployment project (WS_deploy) on VS2008

I am building a asp.net webservice in VS2008 and the web service compiles and debug fine. The project should be using : Net 3,5

 I have

  1. VS2005 and VS208 installed
  2. .Net 1.1 - 3.5
  3. WebDeploymentSetup for VS2008 (and most likely a version for VS2005 as well)

But when I add a web deployment project the fun stops. The .WS_deploy project will not compile and I cannot find any precompiled output.

vs2010 web deployment project restarts w3svc even when restartwwwservice = false

We've updated some of our projects from VS2008 to VS2010.  When these projects are deployed the w3svc is restarted on the target machine, even when restartwwwservice = false in the vdproj file.

This was a problem in 2008 until SP1 (http://forums.asp.net/p/1300097/2534736.aspx).  Does this same problem exist in VS2010?

This is a major problem for us -  we need to be able to deploy projects without restarting IIS.

I've tried creating a new web deployment package and setting the restartWWWService field to false, but this still does a restart when it's installed.

Has anyone come across this problem in VS2010?

Web deployment project - web.config section replacement does not add remove tag

I have a web application that is actually installed as a component of a third party site.  In some configurations, I need to remove certain connection strings and re-add them.  I'm replacing this web.config section with a xml file that includes the following:

<connectionStrings>
      <remove name="MyOverridenConnection"/>
      <add connectionString="Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Data Source=MyServer" name="MyOverridenConnection"
           providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
    </connectionStrings>

For some reason the remove tag is left out during the substitution and I end up with the following in the installed config:

<connectionStrings>
      <add connectionString="Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Data Source=MyServer" name="MyOverridenConnection"
           providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
    </connectionStrings>

Is there any way to issue removes in replaced sec
