Issues with Web Part Title and Description information

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I have created a series of visual web parts for my clients SharePoint 2010 server farm and for each one I have altered the default values for the visual web part title and description, both of which can be found in the visual web part control's .webpart file. Example ... <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <webParts>   <webPart xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WebPart/v3">     <metaData>       <type name="ECUserContWebPart.ECUserCont, $SharePoint.Project.AssemblyFullName$" />       <importErrorMessage>$Resources:core,ImportErrorMessage;</importErrorMessage>     </metaData>     <data>       <properties>         <property name="Title" type="string">Employee Centre User Content Web Part</property>         <property name="Description" type="string">Staff Events Calendar - Discussions - Blogs for Employee Centre</property>       </properties>     </data>   </webPart> </webParts> When I deploy this to my local development environment using Visual Studio 20

Sharepoint 2010 - RSS Viewer Web Part has some AJAX issues

Content Editor Web Part Title Wrap

Hello! I have run into a strange problem with wrapping the web part titles for the content editor web part. The classes appear to be the same for both the content editor titles and the list web part titles, however, the styles I applied ( word-wrap: break-word !important; ) and ( white-space: normal !important; ) are only working on the list web part titles. These web parts are in zones with a fixed width, and cells with a fixed width, but anytime a content editor part is added (with a long title) it still blows out the zone instead of wrapping the text. Any ideas would be appreciated.

format-number issues with the Data View Web Part in SharePoint 2010

I have a number column named @Year_x0020_1_x0020_Revenue in the data view web part in SharePoint Designer 2010. In the Xpath expression builder - @Year_x0020_1_x0020_Revenue previews "500,000" If I use the format-number in the Xpath expression builder ==> format-number(@Year_x0020_1_x0020_Revenue, '$#,##0.00;-$#,##0.00'), it returns NaN. Is there any reason?

Calendar: How to show the full title (and other issues)

in SP 2007's calendar, in calendar view, the full title is displayed. It 2010, only a partial of the title is being displayed (which is not suitable if you want to show the menu!!!)

I tried to modify it though SPD 2010, yet in SPD is shows it correctly! Actually, it shows it in 2007-mode appearance - yes, it's weird and crippy, I know...

Any ideas of what to do?

Thank you

Personnel information -web part in SharePoint 2010?

In SharePoint 2003 there was a web part which could display all the site users in it with contact details and other information.

In SharePoint 2010 this kind of web part doesn't seem to exist(or am I totally blind?)?
The Site users -web part only displays the username, which is not enough. I would like to display 100+ user profiles(name, phone, location, email, etc.) in a web part with paging.

Is there a web part to do this?
I could create a contact list and manually insert all the user information in there, but with 100+ user profiles it is quite a lot of work(plus if someone updates their info, it would have to be modified to the list as well...).

Pass information from one web service to another web service in the same data-view-web-part

In Data View Web Part.

Is it possible to pass information from one web Service data source connection to another web service data source connection within the same Data Form Web Part to get information from second web service?

What I am trying to achieve is to get user email address from the User Profile Web Service and pass in to another web service to get information.

Please advise if it is possible.

Quick Launch navigation and Table Of Contents Web Part multi language issues

I noticed that my multi language site have some issues in translations. The translations in breadcrumb, list and libraries are all ok, except the list names in the Quick Launch navigation and the Table Of Contents Web Part, it does not translate the names of lists and libraries......

Can anybody give me some advise? Or is this a bug?

List Web Part Issues in Site Template

I have about 10 list web parts each list with a custom content type and custom columns and a default view set. I am displaying these web parts on the site's default page. Everything looks great. WHEN I save the site as a template and create a NEW site from the template, the list web parts do not automatically grab the default views from the libraries, instead they just pull in the default Title column and thats it. I have to manually modify each web part to grab the default view. Is there a way around this? I don't understand why it cannot grab the default view automatically.

Issues after customizing Content Query Web Part

I have used CQWP in my SHarepoint 2010 application where i have done following steps..

1.Add CQWP

2.Provide query to use content

3.Exported the CQWP

4. Change the properties in .webpart file (itemXSL link, mainXSL link, XSL) to refer to my cutomized ContentQueryMain.XSL and ItemStyle. XSL, these 2 XSL's are stored in new folder in Style library

5.After the changes when i import the web part i am not able to open the properties when CQWP is applied in my UI (on clicking EditWebpart)

Kindly provide me some ideas so that i can resolve this problem..!!

Title Column-Document Information Panel

Hi, I'm pretty new to Sharepoint 2K10; I have the following issue.

I create a content type based on the standard "Document" content type that has the Title Column required.

I've activated multiple content types in a library and I've associated a ppt template to the content type.

When I create a new document based on the above content type, the Title field in the Document Information Panel (Office 2010)doesn't appear as mandatory even if it actually is.

That's generate confusion on the user.

Issues with IRM Information Rights Management

I am doing some testing with IRM.  It works fine outside Sharepoint.

I created two Libraries in Sharepoint - one with IRM enabled, the other without.

When I open a Word document from Sharepoint, that was IRM-enabled before putting it in the either Library, IRM works fine.

When I open a Word document from the non-IRM-enabled Library, that did not have IRM-enabled before putting it in either Library, there is no IRM, as expected.

When I try to open a Word document from the IRM-enabled Library, and that document did not have IRM on it before uploading to Sharepoint, it fails with the error:

"The internet address 'http:/sp.domain.com/IT/RIghts Management Test/testdoc.doc" is not valid."

I have full rights in the Library.  There are no errors in any of the server Event Logs.

What does this mean?  How do I fix it?

Visual Web Parts - programmatically change Web Part Title not working

I have four custom made Web Parts (based on the Visual Web Part template) that show a filtered set of data from various lists. These work just fine on my front page (which is a Publishing enabled page/site). Each Web Part has some functionality for setting a date filter on the set of data. Now, on every load I generate a string which tells what the current filter is (default filter, custom set date filter +++) and set this string to the Web Part's Title. This text then shows up in the Web Part's header. All this works just fine on the front page.
However, I also have a few sub sites that are based on either the Blank Site or a Team Site and on these sites setting the Web Part's Title property doesn't work. Well, it works, but doesn't get rendered. If I do a "Edit page" or go to one of the Web Part's properties, all the Web Parts' headers get updated to the correct text. But, the next time I load the page, it's back to some old value.

I dont' get it! Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Visio Addin - issues with install and looking for additional information

Hi Folks

I tried to install the Visio Data mining addin to view DM models.  However,  I can't find it in menus or list of addin and I am struggling to find any information on the addin in general (beyond the basic install information).  It doesn't appear that the addin has been disabled (see screenshot ), but then again I can't actually see the add in the list of addins). I am assuming, if active, it would appear in the excel ribbon like the "Datamining" or "Analyze" menus items. Any suggestions on what may have gone wrong or  links to articles would be appreciated.

Headline/Title of Web Part Pages

I created a web part page.  Since it is a file, I put no spaces in it's Name when creating the page.  However, now when the user views the page, the page title/headline has no spaces in it.  Is there a way to change this short of going into Designer and changing the code?

I'm on MOSS 2007

WPF: If Heineken did MVVM Frameworks Part 4

MVVM is to have an instance of a particular Model (say currentPerson) inside my ViewModel (say PeopleViewModel) which is exposed to the View (say PeopleView). The View binds and edits the Model directly.

This definitely flies in the face of what most people consider to be the holy grail of MVVM pattern, but it's a fairly new pattern, so people are still finding their way with it every day, and this works for me very well. The reason I do what I do, is for the following reasons:

1.I have always had the luxury of being able to write my own UI specific Model classes. I would even do this if I was using some other Model classes first, such as LINQ to SQL or LINQ to Entity Framework. As these classes don't have everything a proper WPF Model class needs in my humble opinion. Though, they are pretty good, as they are Partial classes and use INotifyPropertyChanged/DataContract etc etc
2.I am a pragmatist and I do not like writing code for the sake of writing code. I have seen some MVVM apps where the author has had a Model with 50 properties on it, that are simply repeated in the ViewModel abstraction, where the ViewModel added nothing. On that day I decided I would never do that unless I have to.
3.I honestly see no harm in writing directly to the Model from the View, JUST SO LONG AS if the Model is InValid its data NEVER makes its way to the database. I honestly see no pro
