Collect Data from a user task error

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello, I am a new admin and I'm hoping you can help. I have used the Collect Data from a user Action in a workflow in Designer. I get no errors in saving or publishing. My workflow works find and sends me the task assignment as an email when I test. However, I then run into three problems which (together or separately) prevent me from moving forward in the workflow. 1) When I click the "edit task" button located in the task email, my entire Outlook locks up and must be restarted. (I am using outlook 2007 and Sharepoint Foundation 2010) 2) The email says in step 3 to use the "Open the Task" button to mark the task complete. I cannot find this button anywhere. 3) When I go directly into the task, I can view it but I can find no way to "complete" the task without editing it directly. This gives me an error window that says, "Type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.SPDataSource' does not have a public property named 'UseServerDataFormat'. "

Selecting a Task List in Sharepoint Designer 2007 while setting up "Collect Data from User"

When using Sharepoint Designer 2007 to Collect Data from User the task list cannot be selected.  Instead the Task list that is defaulted is the most recently created Task List.  How can I select a specific Task list to associate with"Collect Data from User"?

Modify User in Collect Data from User Workflow

I've created a workflow with a Collect Data from User action that emails a Group when the task is created. Once the task is claimed by an individual, the Assigned To column in the task list is updated to display that person's name but once the task is completed the email variable for the action is not updated and the group is emailed instead of the person listed as Assigned To.

So the question is this: Is there a way to update the user varialbe in the workflow task once the task is completed, or would I need to build my own workflow and use the Send Email action?

Share Point Designer 2007 Workflow (Sequential) - multi-collect data from user

I am currently building a multi-step workflow using ShrePoint designer for MOSS2007. I am getting a bit confused as to if I have an error or if I am doing something incorrect. Here is what I have going. My workflow consists of something similar to the following New document comes in, a collect data from user routine is ran and assigned to a reviewer. My understanding when I create a collect data from user WorkFlow step is any data I request is saved in the "Tasks" list. Therefore I need to grab the workflow task ID in order to later lookup what the reviewer submitted... I understand this...   However, I have one more collect data from user workflow step and I have one more item to collect. Even though this is a brand new collect data from user workflow step - does the collected data still go into the "Tasks" list? In other words, if I have two steps in a workflow and both of these steps are "collect data from user", does the data from both steps go into the same "Tasks" list?  I could see how this might be possible as long as the Task list columns contain all the items for all the different "collect" data from user steps.  I don't see two different Tasks lists representing or named "Reviewer" or "Final" or anything, so I assume the items are all in "Tasks"   However..

Error in Script component in the Data Flow Task

Hi, I need a small help. This is what i require. I need to generate a auto increment number using script component and assign it to target column. use db1 go create table src (name varchar(10) ) insert into src select 'A' union all select 'B' union all select 'C'   create table trg (id int, name varchar(10) ) while loading the trg table, i need to generate a auto increment number and then load it to target. Finally, my trg table data should look as follows id name 1  A 2  B 3  C This is what i have done inside the package. step1 : declared a global variable "tmp" of int32 step2 : created a connection manager pointing to "db1" database step3 : drag n drop data flow task step : inside the data flow task , i have the following        OLEDB Source  (select name from src)           |        Script Component (i have added a new Output column "v_id" of int datatype in INPUTS AND OUTPUTS page)           |        OLEDB Destination In the Script page in Script component , in ReadWriteVariables | User::tmp, I have chose Visual Basic 2008 and clicked the EDit script and inside the Editor this and inisde the below routine i have added only two

Error: The task with the name "Data Flow Task" and the creation name "DTS.Pipeline.1" is not registe

Hi, I am trying to create a simple BI Application for SSIS. In Visual Studio 2005 I just get a Data Flow Task from the toolbar and add it to the project. When I double click it I get the following error: The task with the name "Data Flow Task" and the creation name "DTS.Pipeline.1" is not registered for use on this computer. Then when I try to delete it it gives this other error: Cannot remove the specified item because it was not found in the specified Collection.  I am creating this application in an administrator account in this computer, so I doubt the problem is related to permissions. I am running SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 in WinXP Tablet PC Edition. Any suggestions why this is happening and how to fix it?

Collect data from a User - Validation Bug

Hi,

I use the action "Collect data from a User". I add a new field of the type Choice, the next step I write two choices:

Approved
  Rejected

and configure it:

Default value is blank
  Display as: Radio Buttons
  uncheck Allow Fill-in choices
  uncheck Allow blank values

Click Finich button

When the task is created I need to choose among Approved or Rejected, however if it be not chosen any alternative the validation doesn't work.

If I have a field text the validation works perfectly.

Is there a bug in validation form when the field is a "Choice type" ?

Please help-me.

Collect Data From User in Sharepoint 2010

Hi,

I am trying to run a task where I collect data from a user, simple YES/NO choice selection, within SPD.

I have created the workflow and it does run, however the Output to returns the List Item Id, which is fine, I understand this is the Task ID.

But I cannot work out how to get the result from my YES/NO to use further in the workflow so as to change the status of another list item.

I have read the guide for 2007 (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-designer-help/collect-data-from-a-user-in-a-workflow-HA010209808.aspx#BM5) but this guide does not follow for SPD 2010.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide/example or explain what I am missing.  I would prefer to be able to complete this task within SPD, rather than VS2010.

Thanks in advance
Andy

Sharepoint Designer 2010 - Collect Data from User Issue

I am currently running Sharepoint 2010 Foundation and Sharepoint Designer 2010

I am creating a custom workflow where I am asking 1 user for input using collect data from user.  Following this I am asking a different user the same question using another collect data from user.

Since these creates 2 tasks (1 for each user) I wanted to store the information in the same column, but I seem unable to do so.  Each collect data from user seems to create it's own column even if you name both the same (you end up with 2 columns with the same name but different column id's).

Is there a way to point them both to the same column?  Is there a better way to do this?

More the less I am asking the both persons a yes/no question.  in my workflow if they both say yes I send an e-mail but wanted to have only 1 column in the vew to see the results on the tasks.

Thanks,

Lee

Collect Data from a User in parallel

I have designed a custom workflow using SharePoint Designer.  I have set several “Collect data from a user” actions in SharePoint Designer to be run in parallel.  However, I have discovered that when attempting to retrieve the Task ID from the Tasks list, I am unable to obtain a value until the "Collect Data from User" task has been completed (not just started or in progress), thereby halting my workflow in parallel action.

My custom action basically flows like this:

Collect data and output to variable

Data Conversion Task Error

Hi All, i have a table in excel as below. and i am trying to move records from excel to SQL.

Code     Template      ExportType

I have simple SSIS package with Excel Source, data conversion task and OLEDB Destination. and in data conversion i have given the data type string(DT_STR) for each of the column and length of data type same as each column is having in sql database but still it fails at data conversion task and gives the following error:

Collect Data... how to mark task as completed

I am using the Connect Data workflow action to create a task for a group of people. If one of those people completes the task, I need to somehow prevent others from editing the task and completing it themselves.

Is there a way to show on the "Edit Task" screen that the task has been completed and who completed it? As a basic start I tried adding the "@Editor" value to the screen manually, but it doesn't show up. In a perfect scenario I want something that behaves like the OOB Approval Workflow Tasks: if a task has been completed and another user tries to edit it, a message will pop up on the screen saying "Task completed by...".

I could just make a task read only after it has been completed, but users still try to jump to the "Edit Task" screen directly from their Outlook email notification. They would receive an Access Denied error, which doesn't really make sense. The same problem would happen if I deleted the task entirely: if people click on their "Edit Task" button in Outlook they would go into no-man's land.

BCP Error user api layer: external error: A data length of 40 exceeds the maximum length allowed for

A client using our product that uses SQL Express for its database is getting an error during a BCP OUT command. The error is

CTLIB Message:  - L1/O1/S1/N138/1/0:

: user api layer: external error: A data length of 40 exceeds the maximum length allowed for password data

None of our other client installs get this error so we are assuming it is security related.

Does anyone know where to configure this?

Also, if we change the password to something smaller, we then get a different error saying the server cannot be found even though it is there. We are again assuming this is security related.

I have no idea where to look to figure this out. I was hoping for some sort of SQL error number but none was provided in the error message.

Thanks,

Tony.

How can I show data from a Workflow variable in a Collect Data from User form?

Hi,

I have collected some data from a user in a SharePoint Designer workflow step and I now want to display that data in a second "Collect Data from User" form at a subsequent step in my workflow.  How can I add the content of my Workflow data variable in the Collect Data from user form?

This guy says he has done something similar but does not explain the detail: http://www.mstechblogs.com/paul/spd-workflow-collect-data-from-a-user-modify-the-generated-task-form

I'm keen to hack at the aspx form in SPD but I really need the particular line of code that will do it as I'm not a developer.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

How can I show data from a Workflow variable in a SharePoint Designer Collect Data from User form?

Hi,

I have collected some data (a comment) from a user in a SharePoint Designer (SPD) workflow step and I now want to display that comment in a second "Collect Data from User" form at a subsequent step in my workflow.  How can I add the content of my Workflow data variable, or even data from my original item, in the Collect Data from user form?

The Collect Data from user form is generated out of the Workflow Tasks list and only contains the url of the item where I could store the comment and which has the workflow attached to it.

This guy says he has done something similar but he appears to only use the URL and static info and does not explain the detail in any case: http://www.mstechblogs.com/paul/spd-workflow-collect-data-from-a-user-modify-the-generated-task-form

I'm keen to hack at the aspx form in SPD but I really need the particular line of code that will do it as I'm not a developer.

collect data from user - email problems

I have a WF with a Collect Data from user action. It works perfectly - creates a task and sends the email.

I moved the site collection by stsadm -o restore to a different server. The Collect Data from user action fails to send the emails now - the task gets created successfully but no email gets sent.

I have added a Send email message action just before the Collect Data from user action and it just sends an email to an email address and this works fine. It just fails to send the email from the Collect Data from user action.

  • the email outgoing settings are correct and work.
  • The task list is set to send emails when an owner is assigned.
  • I am triggering the WF's using an admin account, so I have Full control permission
Is there anything else it could be?

Linq - add data to database then email user the details

Hi all

I'm not sure how to structure the code for this but what I want to do is be able to add data to a database, and once this has completed successfully, then email the user to say the details have been added successfully to the database.

I need to:

1. Check that the relevant data has been added into the database then

2. Email the details of the relevant data when completed.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Laura
