Dataview Web Part - Caching issue

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello, I would like to know if this is a bug or the intended behaviour of the dataview webpart when used on a calendar list. I created a calendar with a view that expands recurring appointments. I then used this view in a DVWP to show a rollup of events happening soon. My query was similar to this <Where> <DateRangesOverlap> <FieldRef Name="EventDate"/> <FieldRef Name="EndDate"/> <FieldRef Name="RecurrenceID"/> <Value Type="DateTime"> <Now/> </Value> </DateRangesOverlap> </Where> This allowed my web part to expand recurring appointments so that they were displayed correctly. My web part then worked correctly the first time the page was loaded, but showed incorrect data on subsequent page loads. I determined that when the page was refreshed, it was no longer expanding recurring appointments. I found later that by turning off data view caching in the webpart, this issue went away. My question then is, why does the web part use an different (and incorrect) query to cache its data. Why does it not use the query set out in the web part to cache the data that it returns the first time. Is this a bug in the DVWP or is it intended to work like this (and then why)? Thank you

RSS Viewer Web Part Bug or Strange Issue?

This started out as a simple proof of concept but may be a bug.  I have added 3 RSS Viewer web parts to a page with the following URLs http://feeds.feedburner.com/sharepointteamblog?format=xml http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/subscription-downloads.rss http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/yahoonewsroom and everything works perfectly / each part renders as expected. I then added each of these URLs to a links list and then added the links list web part to the page.  I selected one of the RSS Viewer parts, chose connections -> “Get Feed URL from” -> “Links List” and then chose URL as the connection field.  What is happening is that the SharePoint Team Blog link works great, the MSDN link throws a SecurityException and the Yahoo link does nothing (no error in the log and nothing displayed).  I tried this on two different servers on different network & ISPs both with no firewalls in the way.  This appears to be an issue with how the web part handles a connection compared to the straight web part property. Any thoughts or someone else verifying the issue on their server would be appreciated. Regards,-James

Data form web part issue with pagination

I have a data form web part which I put inside a user control. I have an issue with the default pagination. Clicking the previous button on the pagination causes a "Webpage is expired" error. I've tried copying the code from the next button but it doesn't work and I've also tried caching my pages still nothing. I read somewhere here that someone was able to implement the previous button pagination from code behind but he still hasn't replied to my question. Does anyone else know how to implement this from code behind? Really need help with this.

User Profile Service lookup in dataview web part

I'm attempting to setup a web part in SharePoint Designer 2007 that will list team members that are currently on call.  I've created the data connection to our oncall database and a dataview web part that has two columns.  One column lists the users ID, and the other lists their oncall priority.  This part works great! Example: USERID  |   PRIORITY ID1234   |       1 ID5678   |       2 Now, what i would like to see instead is the user's name instead of their ID. Example: USERNAME  |   PRIORITY John, D       |       1        Jane, B       |       2 I thought originally i could pull this information from AD using the user profile service from here:  http://<servername>/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx?wsdl I've created the data connection to the user profile service, but at this point, i'm unsure how to merge the two data connection columns and get the right user data to display. Any tips?  Has anyone done this before?

Issue with Picture Library Slideshow Web Part after export/import of site collection (SP2010)

I recently exported/imported an SP2010 site collection from Dev to Prod. The site collection had about 90 sites, which were all driven from a site template. Once the export/import had taken place, I created an additional 15 sites (in Prod), using the original site template that was created in the Dev environment. Everything seemed to be working just fine, but I found an issue with the Picture Library Slideshow Web Parts (PLSWP) on all the sites that were created in Prod. Basically, I have a Picture Library, and any pictures added to this library show up in the PLSWP. The original 80 site's PLSWP works fine, but the new 15 sites will not show the pictures through the PLSWP (the viewer just shows up blank). Here is the difference in the html output of the picture viewer:

Issue - A significant part of sql server memory has been paged out.

Hello Experts,

I am running a huge SSRS 2008 report and it gets rendered sometimes and sometimes it gives me an error,

"The report execution has expired or cannot be found. (rsExecutionNotFound)”.

When I see SQL Server log after this issue comes I see following message there;

"A significant part of sql server memory has been paged out. This may result in performance degradation. Duration: 300 seconds. Working set(KB): 97672, memory utilization 42%"

Please help me to know what is the issue and how to fix it.

Web Part Properties issue

Hi there,

I've create a custom object for my web part. I can compile  the web part or web part editor without any issue.  However, when I click "Apply" or "Ok" on the Web Part Editor (this is where I've to update the CustomObject value, I have debugging it line by line there was NO error at all) But an error message raise on the top on the editor.

"Cannot save all of the property settings for this Web Part. An error has occurred."

Any idea what could cause this? or how should I debug this one? Thanks!

Exporting to Microsoft Excel from a DataView Web Part consuming a Web Service with Parameters

In Sharepoint Designer, I've developed a page displaying a DataView Web Part which consumes an XML Web Service with three parameters.  These parameters are passed in from a simple Form Web Part containing three input fields.  I am able to provide default values for the web service so the dataview is initially populated, and when I enter in new parameters, the web service goes back, grabs the requested data and displays in the dataview nice and slick.

The problem I'm having is this: In Internet Explorer 7, when I right-click on the DataView Web Part and select Export to Microsoft Excel, Excel opens up, says "ExternalData_1: Getting Data..." and returns the data from the web service which applies to the default parameter values each and every time, regardless of whether I have changed the parameters on the web page, and contrary to what the DataView Web Part displays on the screen.

Has anyone else run into this, and is there a solution to the problem?

Best regards,
Mark Christie

Code in Content Editoe Web Part - Issue

I added the following code in content editor web part.

<!-- Code to hide Tab Page Help Link -->

<script type="text/javascript">

 $(document).ready(function() {

 });

<!-- Code to add Tabs -->

<div id="tabs">

   <li><a href="#tab-4" ><span>TAB 4</span></a></li>

  </ul>

  <div style="clear: both"></div>

</div>

After few edits to the page, when I try to edit the code in the content editor web part, the code appeared as follows. Not sure why these jquery ids got appended everywhere. Any suggestion as a solution for this issue ?

  $('#TabPageHelp').hide();

Sharepoint 2007 - Silverlight - caching issue

I have a Sharepoint 2007 site (Custom Template) . The data entry forms are created in Silverlight and host it on Sharepoint.

I use a User Control hosting webpart and host the XAPs.

To be in details : I place the XAP under _layouts. I create a user Control and place at _ControlTemplates and use a Object Tag in the User Control and refer to the XAP. Now on the Sharepoint page I add a (Custom) User COntrol hosting Webpart , refer the User Control (.ascx) , so that my XAp is hosted on the Sharepoint Site.

Problem Statement : I face a refresh problem when I deploy the XAP to _Layouts. When ever I deploy , if I replace my XAp with the latest , the changes in the XAP are not being reflected immediately. i have to restart my Server . instead i am creating a new Directory in _layouts , every time i deploy the XAP and updating the path in the UserControl(.ascx) , which works.

What is solution so that I dont create folders every time i deploy ? Can anyone please help.

Web Analytics Popular Queries Web Part Issue

I have a Search Center site where I've added the web analytics web part and set it up to show the most popular queries.    It's displaying these queries fine, but the issue I'm having is that the urls are linking to the incorrect results page.  They should link to http://sitecolectionurl/Pages/results.aspx, but instead they link to http://sitecolectionurl/results.aspx.  Has anyone seen this before?   Any idea what would cause this and more importantly how to fix it?

Thanks.

WPF: If Heineken did MVVM Frameworks Part 4

MVVM is to have an instance of a particular Model (say currentPerson) inside my ViewModel (say PeopleViewModel) which is exposed to the View (say PeopleView). The View binds and edits the Model directly.

This definitely flies in the face of what most people consider to be the holy grail of MVVM pattern, but it's a fairly new pattern, so people are still finding their way with it every day, and this works for me very well. The reason I do what I do, is for the following reasons:

1.I have always had the luxury of being able to write my own UI specific Model classes. I would even do this if I was using some other Model classes first, such as LINQ to SQL or LINQ to Entity Framework. As these classes don't have everything a proper WPF Model class needs in my humble opinion. Though, they are pretty good, as they are Partial classes and use INotifyPropertyChanged/DataContract etc etc
2.I am a pragmatist and I do not like writing code for the sake of writing code. I have seen some MVVM apps where the author has had a Model with 50 properties on it, that are simply repeated in the ViewModel abstraction, where the ViewModel added nothing. On that day I decided I would never do that unless I have to.
3.I honestly see no harm in writing directly to the Model from the View, JUST SO LONG AS if the Model is InValid its data NEVER makes its way to the database. I honestly see no pro

Building Layered Web Applications with Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 - Part 1

"Building Layered Web Applications" that shows you how to build N-Layer applications with Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0. These articles teach you how to design, build and use custom business objects in your web application. The target audience for this series are developers that are ready to make the switch from using SqlDataSource controls to ObjectDataSource controls with custom business objects. Experience with ASP.NET 2 and C# is necessary while some knowledge about object oriented design certainly helps. The design I am going to show you in these articles is a simplified version of a design you would use in a real world application. It doesn't feature all the necessary functionality your application needs, but instead focuses on the underlying concepts.
