Cannot change themes of newly created sites "Access denied"

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

When creating a new site i cannot change the default theme (grayed out) and a message appears something like "access denied". What's wrong? The first 6 sites where created succesfully and have a modified (OOB) site theme applied, all sites I create from now on cannot have the default theme modified. I checked any check-out settings but couldnt find anything obvious. What's wrong? I didn't use any custom code or such, just clicked around like an Admin does ;)  I thought about some check-in/out issue, but couldnt see anything. Someone HELP! please!I am a SharePoint Infrastructure Engineer, focussed on Administration and Installation of SharePoint Server environments.

cannot edit documents in newly created libraries

I've been struggling with this for about a month now, so it's really makin' me crazy at this point! Here's what seems to be happening: My document libraries that were in in place pre-grade are fine, but in all the new document libraries that have been created post-2010 upgrade, the only way anyone can edit these documents is to go in thru Explorer view.. My Library settings are set to 'open in client application' since we're only using Foundation, but I have tried 'open in browser' with no luck. Edit document & Check out are both disabled on the ribbon. I've tried different permission levels - system account, document owner, you name it. I'm hoping someone here might have a fresh idea or two. Thanks in advance! T

Error: Access Denied on default.aspx and other pages of existing and new sites

Hi, since today we can't access the project portals of all our projects (Visual Studio TFS 2008/sharepoint admin 3.0 running on esx 4.0). I already checked every possible security settings, they're all OK. I also tried creating a new site but I can't access the site. I can however access all the settings. For example when I try to access: http://server/Sites/Profel I get the "Error: Access Denied" message and the browser is redirected to http://server/Sites/Profel/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=http%3A%2F%2Fserver%2FSites%2FProfel%2Fdefault%2Easpx I have no problem navigating to: http://server/sites/Profel/_layouts/settings.aspx and I can go to al lot of pages, but when I want to create something like a calendar I can specify the parameters but when I click the create button I get the same error. http://server/Sites/Profel/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=http%3A%2F%2Fserver%2FSites%2FProfel%2FLists%2Ftest%2Fcalendar%2Easpx&Type=list&name=%7B46CB3B46%2DD0F6%2D47F5%2DBA1A%2D3C9654A24A8E%7D I already tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926642  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861/en-us but no success Any help is welcome, Greetz, Peter

Best way to insert newly-created UserId into a second table also

Hi,

I have set up the ASP.NET Membership system using MS SQL. I have also created a new table (Table2) in which the user can store additional information. The UserId column is present in both tables (Table2's UserId column is the foreign key to the UserId column in aspnet_Membership). When a new user creates their account, what is the best way to also automatically insert that user's unique UserId into a new Table2 record at the same time (obviously in the column UserId)?

Below is my attempt to do this. Not sure this is right, but I used the oncreateduser property of CreateUserWizard and called the method below -- not sure if it would work (but regardless, I'm getting the error message at bottom of this post). Please help.

Thank you.

Sub CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)

            Using conn As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("MyDatabaseConnectionString").ToString())
                ' Create a command object.
                Dim cmd As New SqlCom

How do I update/modify already created sites vs Best Practices

Hi,

I was listining to a Channel 9 Web Cast by Ted P (http://tinyurl.com/2euy8uf) regarding best practices - in fact I think it was more an advertorial of feature stapling. In this web cast Ted told that it was a best practice to AVOID(!) custom site definitions but use feature stapling instead. Someone posted a very interesting remark stating the problem on how to handle updates on already created sub sites. So you create 100 sites using feature stapling. After this is done the customers wants you to add the text 'Hello World' behind the title.

Q1: How do you alter these 100 sites?

Q2: What would be the best practice in this case? Feature Stapling or a custom site definition.

Thnx!

Why are newly created Controls placed on an invisible Form turned ALL WHITE for the 'first image'

I have a project where I create a Form and place some Controls on it. This works fine. Then I make the Form invisible, remove the old Controls (via delete), then put on new Controls. When I make the Form visible again, the first 'image' of the Form has all the components there, but they are all PERFECTLY WHITE! This cause an brief but ugly white 'flash' when the Form is made visible. I can even put  breakpoint in my code where I've set up all the Components (with NON-white colors) placed on the Form and then made the Form visible... a breakpoint placed here shows a screen frozen with all WHITE shapes for the Controls. Note that the NEXT update all looks perfect!

screen shot:  http://www.peteroid.com/images/all_white.png

Also, when the Form is first created, it FADES in perfectly when it is made invisible for the FIRST time, it FADES out perfectly. When made visible again, the Form 'blinks' into existence with the 'white flash' for components I just mentioned.

I've tried moving where the Form is made visible in my code... I've tried doing (and not doing, and all combinations of doing and not-doing) Refresh() and Update() to the Form before it goes visible with no difference.

I can 'live' with this, but it seems odd that when the Form is ma

Claim Authentication - access denied for central administration sites

Hi,

I have configured Sharepoint 2010 für claim based form authentication following all steps in technet articel. But after modification of web.config of central administation site, access to adminitration is denied for my windows administator account.

I am not sure that Sharepoint connects to LDAP server correctly. I have not understood the mechanisme Sharepoint connects to LDAP server. No user account/password for authentification Sharepoint server against LDAP server have to be configured!? Is that true or do I have to make additional settings in LDAP server?

Thank you for any hint.

Change the created and modified values of a file in SharePoint

I am trying to import a bunch of files into SharePoint from an old collaboration system we are getting rid of. The problem I am facing is the file information must be retained. For example, if the file was created 12/14/2007 by Joe, and then modified 4/10/2009 by Sue, I need to make sure that information is set in SharePoint when I add the file.
It looks like the needed properties in SPFile are "get" only.
I also tried to use a hashtable to try and force those values upon the file upload as shown in the code below, but that didn't work either.

        private static void UploadFile(string srcUrl, string destUrl)
        {
            try
            {
                using (SPWeb site = new SPSite(destUrl).OpenWeb())
                {
                    //## Put the file into a filestream
                    FileStream fStream = File.OpenRead(srcUrl);
                    byte[] contents = new byte[fStream.Length];
                    fStream.Read(contents, 0, (int)fStream.Length);
                    fStream.Close();

                    //## A hashtable for the file metadata
                    Hashtable metadata = new Hashtable();
                    metadata.Add("ModifiedBy", "Joe Blow");

SharePoint Tutorial - Team Sites

Team sites are small web sites that are created to store everything about a particular thing. For example a site can be created for a department in an organization like human resources. I site can be created for a particular project. A site can even be created for a meeting. Everything about the thing (department, project, meeting) like documents, lists, calendars, etc. is stored in that site.

5 GridView Themes Based on Google's Personalized Homepage (igoogle)

One of the silly features I have found that I like about igoogle is how the pages color palette changes depending upon the time of day. So as the day progresses from morning to afternoon to evening the colors on the page change as well. Like I said, I know this is a silly feature, but I like it. And I have asked around a little bit and seems like other people like it to. To get a better idea of how the colors change, here are the background images from a few of the HTML elements.

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

How to Localize Windows Forms and Change the Language at Runtime

Localization is the process of customizing your application to a particular language, culture or locale. Visual Studio provides support for localizing Windows Forms with much ease. In this article, we will see how to localize windows forms and give the user the ability to change to his preferred language at runtime.
When you run a localized application, the appearance is determined by two culture values. The UICulture property is used to specify which resource files will be loaded for the form. The Culture property, on the other hand, determines how strings such as dates, numerals, and currency amounts are formatted.
Let us see the steps required to create a localized form. You can then expand this example and adopt the same approach for the rest of the forms in your project
