Failed to change Farm Account in Sharepoint 2010 server, now Central Administration is not accessibl

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello, I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the domain on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, for the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount. The account name was too long to be as a Windows 2000 name, so it showed there without last 't', e.g. MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccoun. I thought, Windows 2000 is long gone, so I didn't pay much attention, I think everywhere the account SID is important. I don't know if that is the real problem with my failure later, but it might be one of the reasons. I put MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pre

Central Administration no longer accessible by any account after changing Farm Account in SharePoint

Then using IE, I went to the Central Administration Website page, which is meant for changing farm account usernames. I put in MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pressed Change. Browser worked for a while, and after that nothing seemed to work. Neither my Sharepoint, nor Central Administration website. When going to Central Administra

Cannot Add Second FE Server to SharePoint 2010 Farm

Hi folks Well I thought I would add my problem to the others that are also experiencing this issue. I actually reported somthing similar to this forum in Feb 2010 when I was trying the beta version out. I upgraded our WSS farm to SPFS 2010, the upgrade worked, well kinda. Basically our second WFE server would not join the farm after installing the 2010 binaries and runnng the configuration tool and it was complaining with the following error: 07/31/2010 14:35:59  11  INF                              Calling SPFarm.Local and SPServer.Local to get the local farm objects 07/31/2010 14:35:59  11  INF                              SPFarm.Local returned null.  This usually means that the server is not joined.  But, you can delete a server from the configdb without unjoining, which would mean that this machine still thinks it is joined. 07/31/2010 14:35:59  11  INF                              Trying to access th

Same server farm administrator domain account for both Intranet and Internet Sharepoint site?

Hello,   We are planning to setup 2 streams of architecture for both Intranet and Internet web sites. Just wondering whether there is any best practices/security concerns if we are using the same domain account as the Server Farm Administrator for both Intranet and Internet platform?   Thanks,

SharePoint 2010 organization installation without access to Central Administration?

Our organization of 5000+ internal users and 1000 external vendors wants to integrate SharePoint 2010. We are are being mandated to use an offering of SharePoint 2010 in the cloud. All peer organizations are also being told to use this service, and we are all going to be on a single SP farm. We want to have several internal site collections, customization of MySites, an extranet, and a public facing site. We will not have the ability to access central administration ourselves, we have to go through a centralized state IT department and have them make changes for us. We will only have admin abilities for our own site collections. Installing 3rd party web parts will be a nightmare process as well as making small changes to central admin resources as we are dependent on their time-line to test and integrate these for us. What issues are we likely to see because of this, and is this even a feasible option for us? BTW, they do not uphold SLA agreements and currently they sometimes take days or weeks to fix issues, where our people would take care of it in hours if possible.

SharePoint 2010 - The license state for the current server doesn't match the farm's license state.

I already have a SharePoint 2010 server built, up and running. Yesterday I built a brand new server Windows 2008 and installed all necessary windows updates. Then I joined the server to the domain where the other SharePoint 2010 box is. Today, I installed all necessary pre-requisites for SharePoint 2010 including the KB971831. After that I installed SharePoint 2010 binaries on the new server. When I run the configuration wizard now, it sees the database server with the configuration database, but will not allow me to join the new server to the farm. I get the following error in the diagnostic logs. Resource retrieved id ConfigurationDatabaseTaskConnectFailConfigDisplayLabel is Failed to connect to the configuration database. 02/18/2010 17:54:12 8 INF Leaving function StringResourceManager.GetResourceString 02/18/2010 17:54:12 8 ERR Failed to connect to the configuration database.   An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown. Additional exception information: The current server cannot be joined to this farm because the set of installed products does not match the products installed in the farm.   The license state for the current server doesn't match the farm's license state. System.InvalidOperationException: The current server cannot be joined to this farm because the set of installed products does not match the products installed in the farm.

SharePoint 2010 WFE Page Not Opening in a 5 Server SP Farm

I have a 5 Server SharePoint 2010 Farm - 2 NLB, 1 Index, 2 Node SQL 2k8 R2 Cluster.
I completed the installation of this and finally when I hit the http://intranet:555 (Intranet being the NLB name) from outside the servers (from a client machine), I got a 404 error. Within the Index Server where the Central Administration is hosted, the URL is opening fine. Withint the 2 NLB machines, the URL shows me a login entry box, but even if you give the right ServiceFarm credentials, it does not open the site, it infact just gives me a blank page (no 404 or access denied page). What do you think I should be done?

cannot login to Central administration sharepoint 2010 - please help URGENT

I am not able to login to sharepoint administration, with farm admin, local admin, accounts, all logins are rejected, i recieve a page not available message.

I have run Psconfig, did not work.

I have even repaired the sharepoint 2010, (renamed 14 folder before repairing), This server is development box.

I have the option of fresh sharepoint 2010 install, I have around 8 sites, How do i attach the old sites back to new install.

I have used alrenate access mappings, is that causing issues.

This problem started when i installed a vendor product, Sharepoint informed me that premiumsite feature is not installed, I went ahead and installed premiumsite for the collection, then CA went down.

I am not sure, if it is sharepoint issue or iis issue, In the mean time, i have uninstalled the vendor product which was causing the issue

Please help me to revive the central admin

Thank you neel

Specs for a small Sharepoint 2010 farm on a Hyper V virtual server

I want to build a small Sharepoint Farm on a hyper v Windows Server 2008 R2 OS.

I want to have the following instances. An App server (with indexing and query) and an SQL server.

I need to scope out a server which will accommodate this development environment and ultimately scale out to include additional virtual instances.

What would the minimum memory and CPU requirements be?

How to add a custom action (a link) to Central Administration quick launch in sharepoint 2010 ?

Hello everyone,
How can I add a link to Central administration quick launch? There are several links in Central administration quick launch by default under "Central administration" text ("System settings", "Monitoring", "Backup and Restore", "Security", "Upgrade and Migration", "General Application Settings", "Application Management", "Configuration Wizards"). How can I add new link under "Configuration Wizards". And I tried  but it doesn't work. A link appeared on the Central administration page but it isn't displayed at the quick launch (left panel) .
I did that as follows:

----elements.xml----

<Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">
  <CustomActionGroup
       Id="CA_TestQuickLink"
       Location="Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Default"
       Title="Test Menu Quick Link"

SharePoint 2010 Foundation- Cannot Change Server Name?

I changed my server name yesterday and cannot access SP any more (Cannot connect to configuration database error).  This article:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288510.aspx says you can rename using Powershell but when I open the mgmt shell I get the error "“The local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets with FeatureDependencyId are not registered” . I ran the mgmt shell "as administrator"

I enabled TCP/IP and Named Pipes in SQL Manager and connected from a remote machine. Tried to add DBO to SharePoint_Shell_Access but get an error ""Cannot use the special Principal "dbo" (Microsoft SQL Server Error 15405)".

I have re-created this on a lab machine with a pretty plain vanilla install (Single Server). I tried to run the SharePoint Config but it says "not connected to a farm". Saw an article where you can disconnect from farm (that is the next prompt) and then reconnect. Tried and cannot reconnect...

I am really trying to avoid naming my server back to the original name, for it is a production server now (SharePoint not yet, thankfully). Any help would be greatly appreciated

Rename SharePoint 2010 Farm server

We have a 2 server farm--SharePoint 2010 Farm server and SQL 2008 server.  Unfortunately, the SP 2010 farm server needs to be renamed.  We're not yet a production environment, but I do have some sites created.  I'd rather not have to totally "reinvent the wheel".  What's the "best practice" for this type of situation?  Disconnect SP 2010 server from the config database first, then rename the SP 2010 server through Control Panel, reboot, and then reconnect to the database? If I do this, how will I connect to the CA?  I don't want to miss any crucial steps!

Dedicated Index Server in a SharePoint 2010 Server Farm

Hi,

We want to have a dedicated Index server in our Sharepoint 2010 Farm and we have have Query roles on our WFE server itself.

I came across this - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/f775c95d-4bec-450d-a56c-5114a0f52c0a in which it is written: " By installing WFE on Dedicated index server in SP2007 Farm, you will have benefits"

But as per my understanding , in Sharepoint 2010 Farm Setup, we dont need install WFE role on index server as index server will have to propogate index to query server and we cant avoid any network traffic.

Please validate my understanding and if you have any recommnedations for setting dedicated Index server in SP2010 Farm , please suggest .

Thanks .

Adding an SP 2010 server to an existing farm. "Failed to connect to the configuration database." dur

I have an existing sp 2010 enterprise server hosting websites and central administration.  I have a seperate sql 2008 r2 server holding the databases.  My goal is to setup another sp 2010 enterprise server to provide redundancy for the websites and central admin.  I believe I am able to accomplish this by adding another web front end to the farm.  On the second server, I install sp 2010, run the config wizard and connect to the config database located on the sql server, however, I am interrupted at step 3 when I am notified of the following:

Failed to connect to the configuration database.
