"This document could not be checked out" error in IE with SP2010 doc library

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
We created a document library in Sharepoint 2010 and configured it to require checkout. Via Internet Explorer, users click on a document in the library and choose "Check Out and Edit". They get the error message "This document could not be checked out. You may not have permission to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user". We confirm that the document is not checked out to anyone else. The user is able to open the document Read Only from IE and then check it out in the application (for example, they can click the Check Out button in Word 2007 successfully), so the problem seems to be IE related. We have tried adding the Sharepoint site in the Trusted Sites and Local Intranet zones in IE, but it doesn't make a difference.Any suggestions? Thanks.

Error adding a document library to a site

I am receiving the error "Cannot complete this action.  Please try again"  when trying to add a document library to one of the sites.  This is Sharepoint 2007 SP1.  I seem to be able to do it thru designer but not the web interface.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

HTTP 400 Bad Request Error when uploading to document library

I am running MOSS 3007 Standard on Windows 2003. When trying to upload files larger than about 29Mb, I am getting an HTTP 400 Bad request error. The error states "HTTP Error 400 - Request is badly formed." I am able to successfully upload a 28Mb file. Sharepoint is configured to accept files up to 75Mb.

I have done a fair amount of research on this, but none of the solutions seem to apply to our environment. The two most likely candidates do not apply, for example we are NOT running URLScan (there are a variety of solutions suggesting this could be an issue with uploads of 30Mb or more), and we are on 2003 with IIS6, so again the issue relating to 2008 and IIS7 do not apply.

The "Request is badly formed" part of the request is particularly confusing as most issues I have come across where this error is the symptom point to errors in custom code that is trying to talk to SharePoint. We have done none of our own custom coding and this error is occurring when attempting a simple upload to a document library.

Trying to drag and drop the file across when the document library is open in windows explorer also fails.

I did come across someone saying they had a similar problem which was caused by a damaged content database, however in this case, it is occuring regardless of which content database I use, so either they are all corrupt

Calculated Columns in a Form Library receive error: Value does not fall within the expected range.

I have a forms library that posts the date the form was created. We would like to create a calculated column that allows us to look at these forms based on the month and year they were created. I had created a calculated column that extracts the month and replaces the number with a text string by using an if statement; "IF(MONTH([Proposal Date])=1,"January","") It goes on to evaluate each month and replace the number with the text string. This formula worked for quite some time, though now when I try to add any calculated columns or edit any existing calculated columns on this form library I receive the following error: Value does not fall within the expected range. Now my existing calculated columns (like the one above) do not work and I can not create new calcualted columns. Any insight would be awesome as this has been plaguing me for a couple of months now.

Infopath form and forms library error

I've created an InfoPath 2010 form and associated it with a forms library on a SharePoint site. When I go to the library and choose "Add document" the form opens up to be filled out by the user. When the form is filled out, and the user tries to submit, they get an error saying that I need to configure SharePoint to allow cross-domain data access for user form templates that use connection settings in a data connection file and store a UDC file in the same site collection as the form. So I've enabled cross-domain data access and I've already created a Data Collection Library for Forms in the Site that is approved. What am I missing?  Why am I still getting the error?

COM Interop Error loading type library/DLL TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY error in Vista but not XP

I have created a .NET executable that is using a COM assembly that is located on a servers shared drive but am  having problems getting it to work on a number of machines. I have made sure to register the COM assembly using regsvr32 and doing that it works on the computer that I developed it on. From there I brought it over to a Windows XP computer where it didn't work. I received an error message saying "Error loading type library/DLL ... (TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY)", which was in reference to the COM assembly. After some trouble shooting I found that if I granted the executable FullTrust in the .NET security model the .NET executable was able to load the assembly and everything worked properly. From there I brought the executable to a Windows Vista computer, registered the COM assembly using regsvr32 and granted the .NET executable FullTrust in .NET but it doesn't work. I get the same error saying "Error loading type library/DLL ... (TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY)". Any idea why the same steps would work in XP but not in Vista? Am I missing something obvious? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Uploading a file to a document library produces access denied error, but only on first try.

Hi I have a task which uses a custom form which is part of a custom workflow.  The form incorporates an asp fileUpload control to allow a user to browse for a local file which they can then select and it will be upload a file to a folder in a document library.  The first time this action is performed the folder in the document library will not exist so the code creates a folder and then uploads the file to it. The problem I have is, the first time users try and upload a file the directory is created in the document library as expected, but then the user gets redirected to the standard SharePoint Access Denied page.  If the user goes back to the task list, then loads the task web page again, selects the same file and hits upload, then the file is uploaded fine. All subsequent file uploads work fine after that for all users. Users have Contribute permissions on the document library. The code to do the upload is as follows.  The task has a "CR Number" associated with it, which the directory in the doc library should be called.  It uploads the file to a stream.  Then gets the url of the web and works out the file url and uploads it.  The creation and checking of the folder in the doc library happens in the getDirUrl method. /// <summary> /// Processes an uploaded file. /// </summary> /// <param name="

Web Part Error on a clean SP2010 install in Document Center

On a clean SP2010 install I created a Document Center site.On the main site page under the "Upload Document" web part there's another web part, which displays this error: Web Part Error: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type is not registered as safe. [UnsafeControlException: A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Page cannot be displayed or imported. The type is not registered as safe.] at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartImporter.CreateWebPart(Boolean clearConnections) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartImporter.Import(SPWebPartManager manager, XmlReader reader, Boolean clearConnections, Uri webPartPageUri, SPWeb spWeb) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.SPWebPartManager.CompressWebPartNoSave(Boolean isClosed) Is this normal? Or is my installation somehow corrupted? And what is this web part and how can I register it as safe?

ASP:Upload control . Uploading into a SharePoint Document Library Subfolder and FILE NOT FOUND error

RE: ASP:Upload control . Uploading into a SharePoint Document Library Subfolder and FILE NOT FOUND error Two Issues, apparently unrelated. I have subfolders like this /ApplicantDocuments/20 and /ApplicantDocuments/21 (where 20 and 21 are my subfolders and ApplicantDocuments is my library. 1. The below function is erroring with file not found, but I confirmed I'm sending the fully qualify path (i.e c:\test.txt) to System.IO.FileStream content = System.IO.File.Open(documentFileName, System.IO.FileMode.Open); 2. Even if it worked, looking at the code, I'm not using argument foldername.  I'm passing 20 to the argument. How can I make sure it uploads into subfolder 20 of ApplicantDocuments? Thank you.     Just testing in test environment. Will tighten code once it works.   public void UploadDocumentToSite(string foldername, string documentFileName) {      SPSite siteCollection = new SPSite("https://xxxxxx");      SPWeb web = siteCollection.OpenWeb();      //SPSite.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true;      //Web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true;      string Lib = "ApplicantDocuments";      SPFolder destFolder = web.GetFolder(Lib);      sendmail(documentFileName+" "+foldername);

Crawling MOSS2007 from SP2010 gives a STS2S error

Hi all, We have a MOSS2007 farm and our new SharePoint 2010 intranet needs to crawl the MOSS2007 farm. A crawl test with our MOSS2007 test environment succeeded (after opening the STS3s TCP Port on the firewall), but the same crawl test on production gives me an STS2s error message! Isn't STS2s from WSS2.0 / SharePoint 2003 ? Why does a (clean) installation of MOSS2007 give me this STS2s error message? Now, before I also open the Firewall for this STS2s protocol, I'd like to know where this comes from... grtz, Octavie

Currency and number column error with office 2007 document formats in SharePoint 2010 library

Hi there,

The following error occurred within a SharePoint 2010 document library:

As I tried to test out the new SharePoint 2010 environment I changed the metadata from a few documents within a document library. I noticed that the data from the currency und number field was incorrect from a few documents. The numbers looked like that the decimal separator were ignored. For an example: 123.456,78 was saved as 12.345.678.

At first I thought it could be a language incompabilty but if that would be the case: Why would there be other documents which show the correct number?

I created another document library to recreate this error. And there I noticed the real reason: Every time I changed these fields from a document which was saved in the office 2007 format the error occurred. The metadata from the documents in the office 2003 format were correct.

Has anyone a similar problem or got an idea how to solve this problem?

Profile EMM fields error when using Mysites cross farm (SP2010 RTM)

I have a question that took me a while already. I set up an evironment at a Customer of mine as following:

2 farms:

Farm 1 (publishing farm (PF)):
Service applications (User profile and metadata services)

Farm 2 (consuming farm (CF)):
Webapplications (my.portal.nl webapplication).

I published all the services on the PF and succesfully made a connection to the service throughout the CF. The mysite host location is created under the my.portal.nl webapp.

Everything seems to work perfect. The only thing that doesn't work is the following: When I open the my site host and want to edit my profile properties all the fields that need keywords or metadata are not reachable. When I put the my site host location on the publishing farm --> IT WORKS....

I get the red error beneath every EMM field that says: "the service is temporarily disabled...."

I believe I missed a configuration step somewhere in de connection part between the webapp and the service app when going cross farm????

I think problem is somewhere in the combination of Cross farm, Managed Metadata and User profile service....

Can anybody help me with this problem??

Thanks in advance!

Error while downloading and uploading Documents from document library

We have a set of documents in a document library, which we are trying to download. if i click on the document and try to download, it takes a lot of time and then reports a error message.

Exception from HRESULT: 0x80041050

Now when we also try to upload documents, it does not allow us to upload the documents and reports a exception.

We tried to research through through the error, it gaves us while downloading the document, it is somewhat related to the Antivirus issues and looks like a document that is infected. This is only related to some documents and not all documents.

Let us know if there is any where to work around this issue and allow users to upload and download documents or how to tackle the antivirus issue.

It looks like the SharePoint antivirus has flagged off some of the so-called infected documents with some non-zero values, the resolution to this as suggested by microsoft is to re-run the anti-virus, so that the document value can be set to zero again and have the file downloaded.

Your help will be highly appreciated in this regards.

Issue with Picture Library Slideshow Web Part after export/import of site collection (SP2010)

I recently exported/imported an SP2010 site collection from Dev to Prod. The site collection had about 90 sites, which were all driven from a site template. Once the export/import had taken place, I created an additional 15 sites (in Prod), using the original site template that was created in the Dev environment. Everything seemed to be working just fine, but I found an issue with the Picture Library Slideshow Web Parts (PLSWP) on all the sites that were created in Prod. Basically, I have a Picture Library, and any pictures added to this library show up in the PLSWP. The original 80 site's PLSWP works fine, but the new 15 sites will not show the pictures through the PLSWP (the viewer just shows up blank). Here is the difference in the html output of the picture viewer:

 PLSWP from Dev:
