1.   What are the basic diffrerence between ASP.Net Web applicaitons and Share Point portal. 2.  Why do we need Share Point server to develop web portals? Same can be achived by ASP.Net web application right? 3.  When to use Share Point Server for develping portal? 4. When to use WSS? When to use MOSS teachnologies? 5. When we should choose sharepoint to develop a application? 6. When we should choose dot net to develop a application? Please make me clear on this. Also give me some tutorials on Share Point to develop application on that. Thanks, JayaseelanSeelan

Can I deploy a custom site page from the VS2010 SharePoint project?

Hi We're setting up some demos of our sharepoint plugins and want to easily deploy these into sharepoint so that all members of the company can easily get the demos running on their own machines. This is fine for layouts, web parts and so on - but the demo also has a customised sharepoint home page (which I edited in SP Designer) - how do I make this edited home page part of the VS2010 project so that it can be deployed easily to any site collection?   Thanks

Using Freeware SharePoint Foundation 2010 with BLOB extender for large scale deployment project.

Hi Everyone, If I'd like to deploy SharePoint 2010 Foundation with Express DB (no SQL Server) what's the limitation ? and suppose i have implemented BLOB extender from freeware 3rd partyhttp://www.avepoint.com/sharepoint-storage-extender-docave/ does that means i can deploy more than 4 GB of data and it should perform faster since the SQL Express is not loaded with BLOB (document binaries). Can anyone clarify this matter please ? Thanks. /* Infrastructure Support Engineer */

Problem create a web application on SharePoint 2007 (Project Server 2007)

I installed a Project Server 2007 in a 3 server structure (all Win 2003 sp2; one for App server hosting Central Admin, Project Server service & Search service; one for web server; one for database server).  They are only in the same domain and I use the same network account for the installation as well as the WSS service account.  The same network are local admin for those 3 servers. All installation & patches seem ok (at least I don't get error messages) until I attempt to create my first Web Application.  After I filled out the web appliction and try to click OK, the page does not change and i saw the java error at the right bottom corner from my IE browser (version 6). The message is .... Trying to SYNC Project Professional to Sharepoint 2010 - what template do I use?

I want to use Sharepoint 2010 to sync, and track/record changes initiated from my Project Professional 2010 projects.  The intent is to have a web view (ideally editable) for my team to track work progress. Documentation is light right now for Sharepoint 2010/Project 2010.  Does anyone know: 1) Can Project Pro 2010 be sync'd with only the generic TASKS list template, or can it (should it) be sync'd with one of the other templates - like PROJECT TASKS, ISSUES LIST, or STATUS LIST? 2) Are there any Microsoft mapping diagrams showing what MS Project 2010 fields are mapped to Sharepoint 2010 fields? Since this jumps between 2 platforms, please let me know if I need to address this on the MS Project Pro 2010 forum.  Thanks.

How to add Sharepoint dll reference to Windows Forms application project in Visual Studio 2010?

Hi,I am using Windows Forms application template in Visual Studio 2010 Beta. I created this for some R & D work. Now I am using Sharepoint object model in application. When I am trying to add Sharepoint dll reference from .NET tab, I can not see Windows Sharepoint Services there Which was available in Visual Studio 2005.Also If I am add this sharepoint dll from ISAPI folder (14 Hive), it is added succesfully, but it is not taking actually in project and showing me an error during running mode that theError 12 The type or namespace name 'SharePoint' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft' (are you missing an assembly reference?) Please suggest me how to add Sharepoint dll reference in Windows forms application in Visual Studio 2010?

SharePoint sync with Project 2010 - issues

I am having some issues with syncing project 2010 and sharepoint.

The following scenario works well...

Create plan.
Sync to sharepoint list.
Save Project file.

However the following scenario  does not work well...

Create plan.
Sync to Sharepoint list.
Forget to save project file.

When i re-open project file and sync, i get the error...

The task list was last synchronized to a different project plan. If you continue the task list will be appended to the project plan.
If I continue at this stage then i get a naming error.

One workaround is to delete all the project plan tasks and re-sync.
This brings all the sharepoint tasks back into the project file..
However, I cannot use the existing milestone field in SharePoint to sync with the project file.

Is there any way to sync project fields into existing columns in SharePoint?

I do not want to create a new column as i have a number of views with the old milestone column as part of a filter.

Any ideas?

Several developers working on same Sharepoint project

Hi,

Can you please advise a model to setup a Dev machine when several developers works on the same Sharepoint project? The Source code part is easy to fix as we use VS2010 and a Source Control server, but what about the part specific to Sharepoint? Can you please advise which of the model below is better?

Model 1 (self contained): Each Dev machine is a copy of the Production Sharepoint Server. It contains a single server farm setup, local SQL Server, Visual Studio 2010. The problem here is the content DB is also local, the synchronization of the Content DB must be done manually between several dev machines.

Model 2 (multi-servers Farm): Each Dev machine has a Sharepoint Server which joins a farm. The Sharepoint Server on this Dev machine just has the Web Server role. All the resource heavy roles (SQL Server, Application server, Search, etc.) are installed and administered from a "common" Sharepoint server.

Thanks in advance for any help.
