Writing values back to a database

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi All, I'm trying to write values back to an access database from an open source mathematical programming language (called glpk) using ODBC. I succeeded in doing so in most variables except one. The problem is described below: The following code gets an error when writing the data: \begin code:   table x3_iii {j in TF, k in C, p in P, t in T: x3[j,k,p,t]>0} OUT 'ODBC'   'FileDSN=.\d2.dsn'   'UPDATE ((Channels a INNER JOIN ChannelPeriodProducts b' 'ON a.ChannelID = b.ChannelID)' 'INNER JOIN TransformerTypes d' 'on a.OriginFacilityID = d.FacilityID' 'SET b.Quantity = ?'   'WHERE d.TransformerTypeID = ?'   'AND a.OriginFacilityID =?'   '    AND b.ProductID = ?'   '    AND b.PeriodID = ?':   x3[j, k, p, t], j, k, p, t; \end code Note that the sql is on multiple lines, because of a maximum strings limit in the glpk (but the way I used in the code is fine and worked without problems for writing other variables). Now, let me describe what I am basically trying to do: I'm trying to write the values for the variable x3[j,k,p,t] in its field "Quantity" in the table 'ChannelPeriodProducts'. The indices for that variable are j,k,p,t. The 'ChannelPeriodProducts' table has a "ChannelID", "PeriodID", "ProductID" and "Quantity" field

Reading and Writing Images From a Windows Mobile Database using UltraLite 10(C#)

Periodically I get a request for information on how to read and write binary data to a database running on Windows Mobile. If you search the Internet you can typically find examples that are available on Windows Desktops or allow you to read and write to a local file system. The problem is that it can take a bit of work to get this code to work on Windows Mobile accessing a database.

Ultimately you might be asking, why would I want to store and image in a database? Well in an environment where you synchronizing data between a local mobile database and a consolidated (central) database this can be extremely useful. Imagine if an insurance adjuster went to an accident scene, took a picture of a damaged car, loaded it into his Windows Mobile database and then replicated that image up to the Insurance headquarters for approval. All of this could be done in a very short period of time when using images in the database. Another good example might be a doctor who was waiting for a patient chart to become available. If you could store the image in a database this chart could be sent down to the doctor's device once it became available.

For this article I am not going to get into how to synchronize the images to and from a remote and central database as this is typically fairly straightforward when using a data synchronization technologies like MobiLink

Writing Data to database with jQuery Forms, ASMX Webservice, & JSON - help!

Can someone point me in the right direction on how to submit data from a jQuery form to a ASMX webservice? I have gotten everything on the form ready to be submitted to the database and now I am stuck on how to send it over using $.ajax(). Everything I have read tells me how to get data from a webservice and display it with jQuery, but not the other direction nor how to access the json data within the within the webservice service(similar to a Request.Form approach with ASP.NET forms).

In other words:

1. What do I need to do to my webservice to make sure it can receive data from the jQuery form.

2. What do I need to do in jQuery to receive an acknowledgement the save on the server side was successful.

I can explain more if need be, but if there is a comprehensive tutorial on not only reading, but also WRITING data with jQuery, JSON, etc. I would love to get pointed in that direction.

accessing values from a database with datalist?

I have a datalist and I am filling it using a dataadapter, dataset. So in my .ascx page, I have

<asp:datalist runat="server" id="dlProducts" repeatcolumns="2" repeatdirection="horizontal">

<table border="0">

<tr><td><%# Eval("Item_Name") %></td></tr>

<tr><td>I have to add a picture here</td><td><%# Eval("First_Name") %></td></tr>

In the area where I have put a statement like "I have to add a picture here", I have write a big case statement.  Like:

Case: 6 // show a picture from file1

case: 7 // show a picture from file2

Case 8: //show a picture from file3

So How do I do this here?  Because I dont know how to access the datalist values from code behind.

Here is my code behind:

SQLString = "SELECT First_Name, Picture, item_name, item_id from table1 where item_id = " + request.querystring["iid"];

dataadapter daItems = new dataadapter(SQLString, "connection_name");

dataset dsItems = new dataset();

Model Binding the values in an HTML Table back to Controller / Model

Currently, I am working with ASP.NET MVC1 and am still learning about Model Binding and how values from a View are passed back to the Controller / Model. Specifically, I want take an existing Model, create a Table and populate the Rows of the Table, allow the user to edit some fields and pass it back.

In my example, I have a Class called "Ingredient" which has 4 public accessors:  Name, Barcode, Amount, and Unit

<%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<IEnumerable<MvcACE.DomainModel.Entities.Ingredient>>" %>

<% using (Html.BeginForm("SubmitOrder","MyController"))
{ %>

<% if (Model != null)
foreach (var item in Model)
{ %>
<td><%= Html.Encode(item.Name)%></td>
<td><%= Html.Encode(item.Barcode)%></

Help with updating database with values from Repeater control using c#

Hello, I'm new to ASP.NET 3.5 with C#. I really need some help.

I used a Repeater control to create a simple (editable) list where, when a user logs in, they can edit their list of expenses.  The ASP page works fine.

 My issue is with the code-behind.  I am really confused with how to extract the values from the repeater control. The FindControl method does not seem to be working.  Also, the code I am using resets my 'Amount' values back to 0.00. (0.00 is the amount the user sees when they first encounter the page).

 Here's a portion of the code on the ASP page:

<asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"

<td><asp:Label ID="lblExpId" runat="server"  Text='<%# Bind("ExpId") %>'></asp:Label> </td>

 <td><asp:Textbox ID="lblExpense" runat="server" Width= "190px" Text='<%# Bind("ExpenseName") %>'></asp:Textbox> </td>

 <td><asp:Textbox ID="txtAmount" runat="server" Width= "100px"

jQuery modified ListBox not posting back modified values

Hi everyone,

I have an ASP.Net ListBox that I'm trying to populate via jQuery, using the following snippet:

        $("#MyList_btnAddAll").click(function(e) {
        $('#MyList_lstAll option').appendTo('#MyList_lstSelected');

The code has two ListBoxes in fact, one a "source" and the other a "destination".  As you can tell above the ListBoxes are MyList_lstAll and MyList_lstSelected.  These are rendered in the browser as <select> elements, as you'd expect.

The jQuery is working great, the items are moving from one ListBox to the other, the DOM is updated but when I submit this form (not using jQuery), the ListBoxes don't reflect this change on postback.

I realize my modifications via jQuery aren't available in ViewState but I thought since the DOM was updated these changes would be part of the postback data?  But in the codebehind after postback the ListBox contents haven't changed.  Does anyone know what might be going on and what I can do about it?  Many thanks.

Getting an error when processing a dimension, Errors in the back-end database access module. OLE DB reported an overflow of the data type for column 0. Errors in the OLAP storage engine: An error occurred while the 'xxxxxx' attribute of the 'Dim XXXXXX' dimension from the 'XXXXXXX' database was being processed. Content of this dimension is very similar to one that is processing no problem. The content of the dimension is one field only of type date.  The original content was imported through SSIS from a DB2 database on an iseries machine.  Thought a first the issue was because of the data contains some null values but the dimension the process OK also has some null  values.  The dimension that processes ok is also a single field of type date. Any help greatly appreciated, Roscoe

Writing Webservice return values to table within SQL CLR

Visual Studio 2010/Sql Server 2005/ .net 3.5/ C# I have compiled and created assemblies and all works fine when all I do is .pipe.send.   I have changed it now to capture the values in local parameters so I can write to a sql table on the same server.  I have the connection to the database and the table created.  The code compiles fine but when I run it from sql I get the following error.  The code follows the error.   Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure CventSP, Line 0 A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user-defined routine or aggregate "CventSP": System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Incorrect syntax near '@eventtitle'. Problems with SSRS 2008 Install when configuring a back-end database on a SQL Server 2008 R2 environ

We are tyring to configure SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS 2008) not the R2 version with a SQL Server 2008 R2 version of database. We are facing error when the configuration manager within SSRS tries to execute its scripts against the database. Do you think that SSRS 2008 may have trouble using a SQL Server 2008 R2 version as the back-end? Also, what kind of permissions does the ID installing SSRS needs to have on the SQL Server database ?  Not much is available in the documenation or online.

How to extend this query to write the results back to a database?

FOr this query I have four tables I would like to access. SELECT StockA, SUM(Score) AS Total FROM dbo.ScoresNew_LongPrice WHERE [When] >= @StartTime AND [When] < @EndTime GROUP BY StockA ORDER BY SUM(Score) DESC _LongPrice, _ShortPrice, _LongVolume, _ShortVolume I would like to improve the above query to return not just the results from LongPrice, but four columns, of sum(score), from each table, if possible. And, if that is possible, I would also like to have the query then update another table with its results.  Not a new table, but just updated to an existing table. Anyway, I can do some stuff in T-SQL but this seems over my head.  Any help would be appreciated. (The four tables all have identical structures)

Hi. I have connected my SSAS in SQL server 2008 to an Oracle database.  I have installed the Oracle ODAC to enable me to set up the Data Source, the Data Source View and the Cube.  Now everything was going fine.  I could connect to the Oracle Database and I could see my tables and pull them into the DSV. But.  When I come to process the Cube it throws these errors.  Why all of a sudden do the connection objects stop working? Errors in the back-end database access module. The managed provider 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client' could not be instantiated. Errors in the high-level relational engine. A connection could not be made to the data source with the DataSourceID of 'DBIBGEORAclients', Name of 'DBIBGEORAclients'. Can anyone help here please? Thanks, David.

Binary Data Not Writing to Database

I have an ASP.NET app that writes binary data to a SQL database.  It worked fine using SQL Express, but does not ever write the data using SQL Server 2008 R2.  SQL Profiler shows the binary data in the UPDATE query, but nothing happens... no errors, no data saved.  Does anyone know what I'm missing?  Other data types work fine.

My data type is VarBinary(MAX)...

Binary Data Not Writing to Database

This may be more of a dev question, but I have an ASP.NET app that saves binary data to a SQL database.  It worked fine to a SQL Express 2008 database, but does not work on a SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard.  SQL Profiler shows the binary data in the UPDATE query, but nothing is ever actually written to the database.  I cannot find any errors either.  I have no problems writing other types of data.  Any ideas?
