2005 proc not working in 2008

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
following proc works in 2005, and fails in 2008 returning "Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Invalid column name 'xxx' " message.  Anyone have any ideas? The proc alters an existing proc in another db to return a different value: existing proc: /******************************************************* USE [tstDB] GO CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_GetName] AS SELECT "aaa" AS strDescription GO /******************************************************* proc to alter return value: /******************************************************* USE [srcDB] GO Drop Procedure up_chg_name go Create Procedure up_chg_name (@chgName varchar(20),@db varchar(100)) AS Declare @ls_sql nvarchar(255) set @ls_sql='USE '+@db+' EXECUTE (' ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.sp_GetName AS SELECT "'+@chgName+'" AS strName ')' exec(@ls_sql) GO /******************************************************* execute the altering proc: /******************************************************* USE [srcDB] GO exec up_chg_name @chgName=xxx',@db='tstDB' go /******************************************************* this fails with: "Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Invalid column name 'xxx' message" - any ideas? Thanks

CLR stored procedures asssemblies working in sql server 2005 but giving issues over sql server 2008

Hi I developed CLR stored procedures assemblies using VS2005 and deployed in sql server 2005 are working fine. Currently we are migrating to sql server 2008. The same CLR assemblies are not working in 2008 version and raising following error. Here i created CLR assemblies in sql server 2008 using 'sa' user account which is having db_owner permission over 'mydatabase'. I am getting an error message like "A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user-defined routine or aggregate". In sql logs showing messages like as -- Common language runtime (CLR) functionality initialized using CLR version v2.0.50727 from C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\. -- AppDomain 2 (mydatabase.dbo[runtime].1) created.   Please let me know what may be the cause for this type of issues. Is there any specific backward compatibility settings has to be done over sql server 2008 or sql server 2008 R2 while using 2005 CLR routines?   Thanks in advance.

2008 Report not working on 2005 report server

Hello, I have been researching this issue and it seems if I have created a report using 2008, I cannot upload it to a 2005 report server.

I just wanted to check and see if I have any other options than to re-create the report using 2005? Would copy/paste of the XML from 2008 to 2005 work?

Thanks! Linda

Linked server from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2005 not working

I'm trying to create a linked server from SQL Server r2 to SQL Server 2005 (both 64 bit Enterprise) using the following script

 EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver
 @server = N'TestLS'
 ,@provstr='Integrated Security=SSPI;';

I verified that the Kerberos is working.

When I try to run a four part query as below it gives me the error

Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "TestLS" returned message "Invalid connection string attribute".

If I try to set up the linked server against localhost (i.e. SQL 2008 R2, it works just fine).

Restore Problem with 2005 ..But working in 2008

Hi all,

I am getting problem while restoring the backup file and getting "SQL Server cannot process this media family " error on SQL Server 2005. but It SUCCESSFULLY restored on SQL Server 2008. But the customer is telling this is 2005 backup and should be restored on SQL Server 2005. I executed RESTORE VERIFYONLY FROM DISK on both 2005 and 2008. In 2005 it gave media related error ...and 2008 it didn't though error. Please suggest what would be the problem..

Not working on Windows Server 2008

I had the CSS friendly adapters working great on our old server (windows server 2003 - 32bit) and now we have moved to a 64 bit environment and now I can not get the CSS friendly adapters to work.

We are using SharePoint 2007.

Is there another work thru for 64bit environment.

I notice windows server 2008 has a directory  C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64 would I be using the browser file in this directory???

Please help!

Converting Crystal Report 2005 to 2008 - Please Tell Me I'm Stupid :)

Hello peeps,

I have a series of Crystal Reports that I can view/edit using Visual Studio 2005 with no issues.  The method I'm using is to simply click on the *.rpt file and it opens in the VS crystal editor with no issues.  The problem I'm having is that we are upgrading to Visual Studio 2008, and when I open the *.rpt file in 2008 it opens as a binary file.  I guess I'm used to everything else in Visual Studio prompting me to convert the older version to the newer version, so I'm not sure what to do in this case.

Is this normal?  Is there an easy conversion method that I'm simply overlooking?  Am I screwed?  Who invented liquid soap, and why?

Answers to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated...

Convert 2005 RDLC to 2008 using VS2010

Hi and thanks.

I'm getting an error on serveral reports that I built  in VWD2005 (express) using the reportviewer control.  Trying to edit the rdlc file in VS2010, VS2010 asks if i want to convert the file to RDLC 2008 format and I click ok.  When I build the site, I get this error (and of course also when the report is ran):

Error 1 The report definition is not valid.  Details: The report definition has an invalid target namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2008/01/reportdefinition' which cannot be upgraded. C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mastercardlcm\Reports\WorkLists\OpenSRStatus.rdlc 1

Here is my web.config concerning the RDLC assemblies, etc.

FTP Task working in XP but not working in Windows 7/2008 machines

Hey , A FTP Task in IS pkg is working fine when executed through BIDS in my Win XP machine ..but the same package is not working in Win 7/2008 machine. FTP task fails with the error : [FTP Task] Error: Unable to connect to FTP server using "FTPFolder.TempData.com". Here are few facts about my troubleshooting : 1) From my XP machine... I am able to connect to the FTP Server using DOS Cmds but fails in 2008 machine saying "Unknown host" I did : Run>Cmd>FTP>Open FTPFolder.TempData.com 2) I can view the files on the FTP server through a browser ( URL was given )on both the machines with no issues. 3) I created Port exception for 20 & 21 Ports for 2008 machine ...still no luck. 4) When I PING the FTP server --Cmd>PING FTPFolder.TempData.com On XP Machine...though FTP Server Name is resolved to IP... I still receive "Request timed out." On 2008 Machine ...the IP is not even resolved and error is thrown "Ping request could not find host FTPFolder.TempData.com. Please check the name and try again." 5) I am connecting to FTP Server from my Office machines. I have searched all the threads on this FTP error topic and haven't found the apt thread..so I have opened a new one.

SQLServer 2008 Tools and SQL 2005 Cluster

I recently built a SQL Server 2005 cluster on the o/s Windows Server 2008 R2.  I have been attempting to connect to the cluster from my Windows 7 dekstop with my SQL Server 2008 Tool set.  I have been unable to attach to this cluster since its creation. The firewall is temp off, remote connections in the surface area configuration is set to pipes and tcp/ip and the Browser surface is up and running. I ran Wireshark against the cluster and I could see that there was UDP conversations for ms-sql-m (SQL Port) but that was as far as it would get.  I am using a named instance so not using 1433, but I do see the cluster offering up high RPC ports but the client never responds after the initial UDP response. When I noticed that there was a two way conversation taking place, I went to a seperate machine and fired up SQL Server 2005 Tools and I was easily able to attach to the cluster.  So my question is - Are there any known incompatibilities between SQL Server 2005 cluster services and SQL Server 2008 Tool set?  I can use my 2008 tools to attach to a non-clustered SQL Server 2005 w/o issue.   Error when attempting to connect: A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to sql server.  The server was not found or was not accessible.  Verify that the instance name is correct and the SQL Server is con

migration and upgarde from 2005 to 2008

we need to migrate the data from Houston to Seattle. plus, we need to upgrade 2005 server to 2008 at the same time, with the minimal downtime. The plan is to build the brand new 2008 server in Seattle, restore all databases (500 on the same server!) from full backup. when ready, shutdown applications in Houston, run diff backup and restore Seattle from diff. My question is about initial restore of master database in Seattle. is it a problem to restore 2005 master db on 2008 server?JulieShop

Anyone got the SharePoint List Adapter working with SQL 2005?

Like the authors of some other similar posts, I cannot see the SharePoint list dataflow source and destination options after installing SharePointListAdaptersSetupForSqlServer2005.msi from codeplex.  The options do not appear in the SSIS Data Flow items tab within the "Choose Toolbox Items".  Anyone manage to figure this out? If i install it on my dev laptop - I get these options and can add them to my toolbox - however I have both SQL Server 2005 and 2008 on this machine.   On my 64 bit server however I only have SQL 2005 and nothing! I would love to use this as the last time i wrote a web service extraction is was a very unpleasant few days of my life. Ritchie

SQL 2005 db, edited in 2008

Hi all,I backupped a database from SQL Server 2005, edited it locally in my SQL Server 2008 Express (with Tools) and then tried to restore it back to the 2005 server again. This didn't work and gave several errors in the 2005 server, depending on the way I tried to restore it - or re-attach it. The errors are: Database cannot be opened becaus it is version 655. This server supports version 611 and earlier. The media family on device 'C:\Temp\backup2008\backup2008.bak' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family.RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3241)In other words: the database/backup is just fine, but SQL 2005 just doesn't swallow it. I have already confirmed that the compatability level on SQL 2008 Express (localhost) is set to '90', by using select * from sys.databases, which should mean that it is backwards compatible. I have also tried both restoring through the Management Studio and by script, as well as (re-)attaching the files. I just can't get it to work...Somewhere, it sounds logic. On another level I fail to see the point of the compatability level in the options if this is not possible. Any advice? Or do I just have to forget about SQL 2008 on my working machine and rollback to SQL 2005?

Shared dataset in SSRS 2008 R2 running on SSAS 2005

I am trying to create a report in SSRS 2008 R2 using SSAS 2005 as a datasource. My dataset has a date parameter. When I create an embedded dataset in my report everything works fine, but when I create a shared dataset with the exact same mdx query, I get the following error: An error occurred during local report processing. The definition of the report 'xxxx' is invalid. The Value expression for the report parameter 'DateCalendarHierarchy' contains an error: [BC30034] Bracketed identifier is missing closing ']'. Does anybody have any ideas? Is this a bug? Thanks, Louis
