Data Collection in SQL 2008 not working

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I am trying to use “Data Collection” feature in SQL 2008. I created it but I am not able to see any report. I am getting blank report. I saw all the jobs related to Data collection are failing and throwing following error:-     The step did not generate any output.  Process Exit Code 4.  The step failed. Any idea what needs to be done? This is SQL Server 2008 64 bits.   Thanks Saumen

SQL Server 2008 Data Collection Queries

I am trying to find information on the new Data Collection functionality in SQL Server 2008. Mainly around how to properly query the tables..etc for building custom reports. Anyone find any good books, CBTs or have any queries already written? Everytime I try to search on the subject I just get a bunch of tutorials on how to configure it, which really doesn't require much of a tutorial if you use the wizard.John M. ADODB & SQL 2008 - working with date data type without pain

Hello, everybody!

Here is a snip:

Dim con As New ADODB.Connection
con.Open "..." ' provider is SQLNCLI10.1

con.Execute "create table tempdb..TestDate([Da] date not null primary key clustered);"

Dim rs As New ADODB.Recordset
rs.Open "select * from tempdb..TestDate"
rs.Fields("Da").Value = DateValue(Now)

It will fail with the following diagnosis: "Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string."

I've researched the problem: ADO doesn't recognise server data type 'date' and takes it like an ordinary nvarchar(10). I.e. field type is adVarWChar and DefinedSize = 10. It works well if I do rs!Da = "20101123", however, if I'd like to work with dates by means of strings I would definetelly do that and wouldn't ask any questions moreover, I wouldn't even work

Using Conditional Split data Transfer in SSIS 2008

This article uses the Integration Services Conditional Split Data Transformation element to filter and transfer data from a set of flat text files to SQL Server database table. The concept can be easily extended to apply to any other source or destination such as Microsoft Excel. This scenario is useful in creating denormalized database tables in a reporting and analysis situation.

Not working on Windows Server 2008

I had the CSS friendly adapters working great on our old server (windows server 2003 - 32bit) and now we have moved to a 64 bit environment and now I can not get the CSS friendly adapters to work.

Is there another work thru for 64bit environment.

I notice windows server 2008 has a directory  C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64 would I be using the browser file in this directory???

Please help!

Site Collection Usage Summary: No Data Available

Usage analysis processing is enable for my farm in both Central Administration and in the SSP.

I've checked TImer Job Status and the three timer jobs responsible for doing the log analsis are all running.

I've also checked the log file locations and the log files are being generated.

Yet when I browse the "Site collection usage summary" report (SpUsageSite.aspx) I get the following:

No data is available for this report. Usage analysis might have been enabled only recently, or there might have been insufficient usage to result in any values for the report.

My farm is running 2007 Enterprise SP2 (

Can someone confirm if this issue was fixed with one of the CU's that were issues post-SP2?

FTP Task working in XP but not working in Windows 7/2008 machines

Hey , A FTP Task in IS pkg is working fine when executed through BIDS in my Win XP machine ..but the same package is not working in Win 7/2008 machine. FTP task fails with the error : [FTP Task] Error: Unable to connect to FTP server using "FTPFolder.TempData.com". Here are few facts about my troubleshooting : 1) From my XP machine... I am able to connect to the FTP Server using DOS Cmds but fails in 2008 machine saying "Unknown host" I did : Run>Cmd>FTP>Open FTPFolder.TempData.com 2) I can view the files on the FTP server through a browser ( URL was given )on both the machines with no issues. 3) I created Port exception for 20 & 21 Ports for 2008 machine ...still no luck. 4) When I PING the FTP server --Cmd>PING FTPFolder.TempData.com On XP Machine...though FTP Server Name is resolved to IP... I still receive "Request timed out." On 2008 Machine ...the IP is not even resolved and error is thrown "Ping request could not find host FTPFolder.TempData.com. Please check the name and try again." 5) I am connecting to FTP Server from my Office machines. I have searched all the threads on this FTP error topic and haven't found the apt thread..so I have opened a new one.

SQL 2008 R2 (final): SSMS freezes: "Failed to retrieve data for this request.

The original thread is locked for some reason--but the cause of the bug had something to do with the "ssms tools pack" add-in, which, according to the comments in the connect item, will be fixed in an update of ssms tools: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlkjdatabaseengine/thread/f65737b7-fe4d-487b-aa41-ef437d100bc7 https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/556169/ssms-completely-locked-up-after-right-clicking-a-table

Transferring data (on update) from SQL to SLQL (2008

Hi there,   we are having 2 MS SQL 2008 servers, where the first one is our main machine where our ERP (Navision) is running on. Now, due to a customer request, I need to send data from our main sql server into our second sql server. But not everything, only some specific datasets (only if the specific customer is affected)... not only on inserts, but also on updates and on multiple tables.   I am not quite sure which technology to use for that, I tried to read something about Integration Services and Trigger, but as I am not really into both of them and not sure what technique would be the most suitable, I'd like to ask the experts here for some advice.   The affected rows might be around 2-10% of our total inserts / updates a day.   Any help would be appreciated!

working with multiple data sets

i am new to ssrs and looking for guidance : i need to develop a report based on multiple tables: general ledger, customer ledger and customer master... the purpose of report is to have customer segment wise sales and expense information.... for given month and YTD. customer segments are defined in customer master, sales is in customer ledger and expenses are in general ledger.. the problem i am facing are: 1. I need to display all customer segments, and if no sales /expenese for any segment, then show 0 values.. .however, if i join tables and apply WHERE clause for date..i am missing some segments due to lack of data within where condition 2. i believe having subqueries is expensive when u r dealing with millon records. further i want to know how to have a calculated field based on two different dataset fields.

SharePoint Search not working on one site collection

I am running into some weird behavior with how SharePoint is crawling site/list data.  Let's say our main intranet site is http://www.intranet.com: Most of our older sites are setup with URLs like http://www.intranet.com/sites/sitename .  Crawling is working fine on these sites and I can execute a search and find all of the results I would expect.  At some point recently (before I joined this firm), they made a decision that all new sites would have the URL http://www.intranet.com/SiteDirectory/sitename .  Any sites which fall into this bucket are not being crawled, it would seem. If I check Central Adman>Shared Services>Search Administration, I can see that the first content source being crawled is http://www.intranet.com so I would imagine this crawl should pick up anything under /SiteDirectory/ but it is not.  I also checked the Crawl Settings on this page and it is set to "Crawl everything under the hostname for each start address".  Lastly, I see that there were only 21 errors in the last full crawl but none of these errors apply to a /SiteDirectory/ site. In short, what could be causing the crawl to apparently skip all of the sites within /SiteDirectory/ and how can this best be fixed?

SSRS 2008 Export to PDF fails for large data with System.Exception: Parameter is not valid

Hi, We are working on Range Bar Chart using SSRS 2008. The report has huge data. It is properly displaying the data, but when we tried to export to pdf it is failing with the following exception. Exporting to excel works fine. Also if the report has small/medium data it is property exporting to PDF. It is failing only in case of huge data (we have custom page size of 28" X 14"). Of course the report has lot of expressions we used to customize the colors/text as per our requirements.   Server Error in '/Reports_SQLDEV2008' Application. Parameter is not valid. 2005 proc not working in 2008

following proc works in 2005, and fails in 2008 returning "Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Invalid column name 'xxx' " message.  Anyone have any ideas? The proc alters an existing proc in another db to return a different value: existing proc: /******************************************************* USE [tstDB] GO CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_GetName] AS SELECT "aaa" AS strDescription GO /******************************************************* proc to alter return value: /******************************************************* USE [srcDB] GO Drop Procedure up_chg_name go Create Procedure up_chg_name (@chgName varchar(20),@db varchar(100)) AS Declare @ls_sql nvarchar(255) set @ls_sql='USE '+@db+' EXECUTE ('' ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.sp_GetName AS SELECT "'+@chgName+'" AS strName '')' exec(@ls_sql) GO /******************************************************* execute the altering proc: /******************************************************* USE [srcDB] GO exec up_chg_name @chgName=xxx',@db='tstDB' go /******************************************************* this fails with: "Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Invalid column name 'xxx' message" - any ideas? SQL server 2008 r2 Data sync question???

Sql 2008 r2 data sync, does it involve a db hosted by microsoft or does that involve us hosting the sync functionality locally?  I know we have db's local that need to be sync'd across a wan but does that happen in a db hosted in the ms cloud or does that have to do with a sync functionality that runs locally to keep my db's sync'd?   Thanks, SL
