Why are folder web.config files excluded?

I am asking this mainly out of curiosity. When access rules are created for folders using WSAT, web.config files are generated in these folders. I thought these rules should be deployed with the application (It is at least the case for all my applications), but these file are not included after creation so they are not deployed by default. What is the rationale behind this?

Securing files using Handler and App_Data folder

HiI have secured some files on my webserver by putting them into the App_Data folder in the root (I do not have the option to secure folders using the ASAPI filter)The user gets access to these files by requesting them through a handler, fx. by requesting ~/Handler.ashx?file=App_Data/MySubFolder/MyFile.jpgNow, I want to make all the content in a specific folder called "Members" (a single subdirectory of the App_Data folder) available only by passing a specific password. That is by requesting ~/Handler.ashx?file=App_Data/MySubFolder/MyFile.jpg&password=xxxxIn my Handler.ashx I have written some logic seeking if InStr(context.Request.QueryString("file"), "Members") = 0 before sending the file. If inStr <> 0 a password is required. Is this a good way to secure a folder in and its content? Is there a way of getting access anyway, like using some kind of "sub-directory" line in the path (the same way as you can request parent directory by using "../../Myfile.jpg)? I know there will be a problem if someone fx. legitimately tries to access the file App_Data/Members.jpgThanks in advance!-Jesper

Copy folder from FTP site using SSH to local machine using DOS batch files

Is there a way to copy a folder from an FTP site listening on SSH connection using DOS batch files? I know that there are several third party tools out there that accomplish this. I am NOT looking for that solution. I tried this in Powershell, but could not find a solution, and I am hoping a simple DOS batch file can handle this.

Any help would be appreciated...

how to deploy a web part with additional files

I have built a visual web part and can deploy it / run it on my local environment.

It uses additional resources e.g. AjaxControlToolkit.

How do I build an installer that will allow me to edit the web.config as I install the web part.

I have looked at the wsp installer - but i think i need something with a bit more power. I know its possible as other compaines which sell sharepoint webparts are doing it - i just need pointing in the right direction.

wsp files taking alot of time to deploy

In order to integrate SSRS 2008 with MOSS 2007, we added a server as a WFE on the farm. this wfe has SSRS 2008 configured. but after that the wsp files, though not giving any error... are taking more than 30 minutes to deploy and retract... the configuration of the farm is simple too. 2 front end, 1 search and 1 database. i have tried restarting the timer service and turning the timer service off on the wfe2 (where SSRS 2008 is also present).... any ideas?

Uploading Office 2003 files are set to Folder Content Type

Hi All,

Been pulling my hair out trying to figure this one and am hoping that you are able to help.

Have been putting together a new SP2010 Standard environment and have gone as far as creating some sites, sub sites and generating Content Types and assigning to Doc Libraries etc.

The problem comes when we are attempting to upload existing Office 2003 files, namely Word .doc files, and only happens on specific libraries, this is not across the board.

When we upload an existing 2003 file to the affected library, we are not able to set any meta data to the file as SharePoint registers the Content Type as a Folder as seen in the properties of the file:

Description: cid:image001.png@01CB5A4C.D9F0EA90

However, if we upload a pre-existing Office 2010 .docx, we get the full array of Meta Data and the correct Content Type has been assigned.

Do any wonderful people have any clues as to what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance

Help with authorization in web.config to deny access to files in a folder

I have a web site that has a folder called Files that contains PDF files.  These PDF files should not be accessible to people who have not signed in to the web site.

The login URL is www.mysite.com/Account/Login.aspx and the register URL is www.mysite.com/Account/Register.aspx.

Once the person is signed in they can go to www.mysite.com/Documents/Documents.aspx.  This page has a gridview that lists the PDF files in the Files folder with a link to them.  If the person is not signed in, he/she can't view this Documents.aspx page.  However, if anyone has the URL to the PDF files, they can view those files without having to sign in.

How can I prevent someone from accessing the PDF files in this folder?

The site is hosted on GoDaddy using IIS 6.0.

Thanks in advance.

Read Access Files from Folder with SSIS

Can some body suggest how to read access files from folder location and insert the data from access Db table to Sql 2008

I have created an application page which has 2 normal html pages . therefore in the layouts folder I have

_layouts\FileView  and in there I have 3 files which is Hello.aspx, wait.htm,notfound.htm . The hello.aspx basically calls the htm in a iframe based on a condition. The hello.aspx loads fine with the codebehind working ok.  But my issue issue is when the aspx calls the htm a logon prompt appears even though IE has pass through authentication on intranet. when I call the htm manually on the IE address bar it prompts for a logon however the aspx is not.
