web.config - adding css friendly adapters to existing website

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hi Forum,  Please help me with the major headache I've wasted hours trying to figure out!  I have done everything explained in the tuturial to add css friendly adaters to an existing site and still no luck.  I am thinking that it has to do with modifying my current web.config file to use the css adapters.  Problem is, I can't find any specific instructions as to what I have to do to the current web.config file to make the site compatible with the css adapters!  I tried to modify the config file based on what on the example, but nothing seems to work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks, D

Creating a user friendly alias for the website path

 Hello mates,

I am hosting my ASP.NET application on a Windows 2003 Server.

To browse to my application one has to type the path :http://serverName/applicationName

I want users to only type  applicationName on the web adress area.I believe there is something to do with alias and CNAME on DNS records that can adress this.

Any help on how to go about doing this will be highly appreciated.

are the "CSS Friendly Control Adapters" being used in ASP.NET 3.5 and above?

I am a long time ASP.NET developer, but have just encountered the issue of CSS vs Tables in a deep manner (so far I have just used the built-in controls or just created my own controls).

I bought a great book on this issue, but the book is reffering the ASP.NET 2.0 via VS2005.

I am using ASP.NET 3.5 and above via VS2008/2010.

My first question is: are the "CSS Friendly Control Adapters" still alive in 2010 or maybe there are a new techniques being used?

My second question is:  are the "CSS Friendly Control Adapters" being used in ASP.NET 3.5 and above via VS2008/VS2010?

I will appreciate your help and advise.

Cant find vsi file for CSS Friendly Control Adapters

Hi guys

This is driving me crazy... I cant find the .vsi file for installing the CSS Friendly Control Adapters Project. Does anyone know where I can get this?

The following link: http://www.asp.net/cssadapters/ only leads to the CodePlex wiki where I can download the dll and a partial solution. Essentially, I'm looking for the source code to implement the Menu adapter.

Any help is much appreciated!

Css Friendly Adapters - asp.net Horizontal Menu - IE6

Hopefully someone can help.

I have an asp.net menu with horizontal static top tier followed by 2 dynamic vertical lower tiers.

It renders fine in all other browsers etc. etc. - apart from IE6.

In IE6 the menu is not rendered horizontally and insttead the items are stacked vertically.

It is my understanding that when using horizontal orientation, the menu items are effectively floated next to each other.

So I can get round this float problem in IE6 by specifying a width for the items i.e.:

*html .AdminMenu .AspNet-Menu-Horizontal ul.AspNet-Menu li
	width: 45px;
	text-align: left;
	margin: 0;
	padding: 0;

Problem is, I do not want to set the width for each item. If I do this then it means regardless of the length of the text the width will always be the same.

On other browsers I do not set a width but instead set left/right margin so that every item is evenly spaced.

How can I do this in IE6? Essentially each li should wrap the text and float nex

Addressing a specific node with CSS Friendly Control Adapters

Hello everybody,

I like the concept of the friendly control adapters, but I'm not sure if I can use them for my purpose.
My whole menu basically consist of one image, which itself contains the images for each menu item (is that understandable?).

Each menu item then displays only a certain part of the image.
I do this by shifting the background-position.

#navigation li#home a{
background-position:0px 0px;

/* Registration */
#navigation li#registration a:link, li#registration a:visited {
background-position:-106px -34px;

#navigation li#registration a:hover, li#registration a:focus {
background-position:-106px 0px;

/* Administration */
#navigation li#administration a:link, li#administration a:visited{
background-position:-212px -34px;

#navigation li#administration a:hover, li#administration a:focus{
background-position:-212px 0px;

I would like to do the same now with CSS Friendly, but I don't see how I can address each individual menu item node.
In static HTML I can give each link an ID (i.e. #administration), but I don't see how to do this with the asp:Menu control and CSS Friendly.

Can someone help me?

Thanks a lot,

How use WorkflowHostingEndpoint w/ existing Activity and no .xamlx + configure in web.config

The only examples I can find on hosting non-service workflows leveraging a custom WorkflowHostingEndpoint (CreationEndpoint example in Samples) still makes use of a .xamlx file and only shows configuring a host in code. I'd like to take an existing Activity, leverage something like CreationEndpoint, and configure the service exclusively in the web.config for hosting in IIS. I'd also like the service to expose a mex endpoint. Is this possible and if so can someone refer me to an example?Blades Don't Need Reloading...

Adding a footer to a pre-existing row group

Hi, I want to add a group footer to my report which includes the individual provider name for each page. I have already added a parent row group for details relating to each provider without specifying to include a footer to the row group. When I now add a footer using the insert footer path this places the footer below my row grouping, when I then add the provider field to the footer every page returns the first provider in the list. How do I include the footer to the grouping so ever footer relates to the individual provider type in the main body of the report? Thanks James

Assembly entries in Web.Config were adding automatically and now they are not?

Hi all,    A while ago when i started using VS 2005, i found that some assembly entries were automatically added to from web.configand i was getting annoying errors. later i found i have added unneccessary references in my application. And its a feature that assembly reference are automatically added to assembly tag in Web.config, So dev don't have to worry about it.    Recently i used Interop.OWC11.dll in my application. And ^&*# got the annoying "CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Office' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft' (are you missing an assembly reference?)"error again.. Assembly entry was not added automatically. I checked same for existing references in my application, for them to automatic entries is not happening.... ? :(     I have to write is down in Web.config manually... I don't understand why?....Tried to find resources on net for this issue, didn't found any relevant ones.. Please can anyone explain me why this is hapennig?....

Your opinion: Are CSS friendly Adapters dead in 2010?

What do you think? Is it wise to start to use CSS Friendly adapters at this point (2010) with these observations in mind: VS2010 and .Net4 are coming and may offer something new MVC is an option if you really want to manage your page layout Microsoft is not involved with CSSFA The codeplex project seems to be sleeping along It's been 4 years since it started   Is there a better way to get control of the HTML emitted by ASP.Net controls? I for one  am fed up with wrestling with the failures of browsers to handle the table code properly (e.g. applying classes) yet I am fearful of going down the CSS road when it seems so stale. What do you think? Your recommendation?

Website is ignoring System.Web.HttpForbiddenHandler and allowing download of web.config

My website is allowing the web.config file to be downloaded. However in my C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\web.config file I have this line <add path="*.config" verb="*" type="System.Web.HttpForbiddenHandler" validate="true"/> Which should mean any config file can't be downloaded. What am I missing?

Issue Adding a new Lookup Field to an existing List Instance

I have a code base that houses all of the column, content types, template, and list instance definitions. Am using the Update functionlaity a lot from version to version. Has been working well to this point. I just added two new columns (fields), one a Lookup and the other a Multi-Lookup. The fields are added fine on the update, columns look correct and the content type to which these were added also look fine. I can create a new List instance from the content type, and the new lookup columns are fine. The problem is this. Any existing list instances that were created from this same content type, now blow up when I try and access list items via the SP GUI. Something about a valid GUID, I dont't have the exect error anymore, but will repost it when I recreate the issue for the tenth time. I tried deleting the new lookup fields from this new list instance, thinking that I might be able to re-add them to fix the problem, but I get a new stack trace when I try and re-add them. Any hints on where I can start digging would be appreciated. I think I'll start with comparing the list instance schemas between an existing list and a newly created one.

Adding New Column to XSD File Without Remapping existing Transformations

Hello, I am loading XML file using SQL 2005 SSIS and using XSD file for XML Schema defination. Now I have a requirement where I should add couple of new columns in XSD as the XML (MAY) have extra columns for few of its tables. Is it safe to add new columns to XSD and the Map only new columns in Data Flow and all will work? or after I add new columns I need to redesign all mappings as Column order will change. (I think SSIS refere a numeric value for each column, if Yes how can I add new column with less impact)? Thanks, Prabhat Nath

New appliesTo attribute on assemblyBinding element in web.config after upgrading website for Visual

We just upgraded from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. We had to convert our projects and solutions, but we thought no changes were need for regular ASP.net websites. However, Visual Studio 2010 modified the assemblyBinding element in the web.config file to include the appliesTo attribute. The website is still targeting .net 3.5 and will be for a little while until we upgrade everything to 4.0.

So, is this attribute necessary? If so, why? We had hoped we didn't need to update all our websites solely for the purpose of using Visual Studio 2010 as we have a lot of them. We'll take the effort to upgrade them when we finally change them to target .net 4.0. Until then, is the web.config change necessary?

Here is what we had in web.config before the upgrade to Visual Studio 2010:

    <assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">
