A general validation attribute for checking uniqueness in a linq to sql data context

I've been programming asp.net for, oh, a couple of days now. Here's a question I can't even begin to figure out for myself. I hope it's obvious from the code what I want to accomplish, and I have, but it's not pretty. Furthermore I'd like to use it on whatever table, whatever field, i.e. check the uniqueness of a value against a table and field I specify, passing it all into the attribute constructor. public class UniqueEmailAttribute : ValidationAttribute{    public UniqueEmailAttribute()    {    }    public override Boolean IsValid(Object value)    {        //not pretty. todo: do away with this.        var db = new CoinDataContext();        int c = db.Emails.Count(e => e.Email1 == value.ToString());        return (Boolean) (c == 0);    }}

List data validation failed error checking in dockument and uploading to library.

If I upload a document to the "vanilla" Document Library at the root site (I have not created sub sites yet, we are in the testing phase), the document does get uploaded but the following error appears: Error List data validation failed.   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: 0928c39a-f2d7-4ce6-8057-62cc01c6a951 Date and Time: 6/16/2010 5:27:58 PM Go back to site -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The doc has uploaded but is automatically checked out to me I am logged on as the ADMINISTRATOR Account Now if I try and discard the check out, it will fail as there is no original checked in version. If I try and click Check in, then the same error appears Help

Appointment validation checking and data inserting

I am beginner of asp.net and c#Currently i doing appointment website and need suggestions/ ideas. I have create a simple web form  with Calender Control as picture below enable users to select date and time. At the calender control, i have set that users can only select tuesday and thursday every month using DayRender. After that i put a DropDownList to display the time. Next step, i want to store the data into database, for example UserA make appointment on Date 21 September 2010, Time 1100 and make it unavailable for other bookings. When UserB makes appointment on same Date and Time, it will display information that the slot is booked/unavailable. To implement this, what approach should i take? When i insert the data into database should i convert the value of DropDownList to time format or just insert DropDownList.Text? If i just insert according to DropDownList.Text will it having problem in check the slot is booked or not? <asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList1" runat="server"> <asp:ListItem>0900</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>1000</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>1100</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>1200</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>1400</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>1500</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>1600</asp:L

Server side validation of Fileupload control not working

I've tried this method in my code behind to try and validate that the Fileupload control has a file or not. I get the error message the the event "Server Validate" cannot be found. Can anyone tell why? Thanks.

Public Sub CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs) Handles CustomValidator1.ServerValidate

' Get file name

        Dim uploadAvatar As FileUpload = DirectCast(AdvertisementForm.FindControl("uploadAvatar"), FileUpload)

        Dim UploadFileName As String = uploadAvatar.PostedFile.FileName

        If UploadFileName = "" Then
            ' There is no file selected
            args.IsValid = False
            Dim Extension As String = UploadFileName.Substring(UploadFileName.L

VS 2010 HTML validation "in CSS" option - where the hell is it?

In VS 2008 there is a very useful feature of background HTML validation - it checks if CSS class name is valid i.e. it exists in one of the linked css files. But VS 2010 Express does not do that any more. And the relevant setting in Options->Text Editor->HTML->Validation->in CSS is not there. Ok, maybe they made it paid for option? VS 2010 Professional? Not there. Or maybe VS 2010 Ultimate? Not a trace.

1. am I blind?

2. they decided it is too convenient to use and removed it?

3. they will "introduce" it in SP1?

What is going on? That one thing made me move back to VS 2008 web developer.

How to turn off optimistic concurrency checking?

I have run into a problem with optimistic concurrency in my dynamic data application (where all relevant settings are at their default values); when I try to update or delete one of my tables, I see the following error:

 Exception type: ChangeConflictException
 Exception message: Row not found or changed.

I am the only user of my database at the moment, so I can guarantee that the data both exists and has not been changed outside the application!

Various forums have suggested that the way to deal with this is to set the column attributes so that the concurrency checking is disabled; i.e.

[global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ColumnAttribute(Storage="_PropSurname", DbType="NVarChar(255)", UpdateCheck=UpdateCheck.Never)]

However, to do this manually through the Visual Studio designer will take me hours (I have a lot of tables) and if I then change the schema of one of the tables in the DB, won't I then have to do it all again?  I've tried editing the .designer.cs file directly but my changes are subsequently overwritten (as expected).

All suggestions gratefully received!

User validation Issue in xlsx file

I am validating user from Login.xlsx file. It was working fine by validating email and password from that file. For testing i got new file same contents of file but added some more user names.

So after that when i validating the user i am getting the following error "Data type mismatch in criteria expression".

But when i replaced the new to old one it is working fine. The contens of both files are the same. So why this kind of error happened.

set messageTemplateResourceName from resource file in Validation appication block.

  I am using Validation application block in my project and want to set validation message from resource file, but not able to do that. I tried giving the path of resource file in messageTemplateResourceType and name of resource in messageTemplateResourceName. But it did not help as I only receive the message if I have set something in messageTemplate even after setting the resource file.

Here is my code:

<validator lowerBound="1" lowerBoundType="Inclusive" upperBound="250"
              upperBoundType="Inclusive" negated="false" messageTemplate=""
              messageTemplateResourceType="Asurion.jCare.Common.Resources.UIResources.PerilTypeAndDetailsSection, Asurion.jCare.Common.Resources, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null"
              tag="" type="Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Validation.Validators.StringLengthValidator, Microsoft.Practices.Enterpris

Localize framework message from xml validation error

I need to validate an XML through XSD. I am using XMLReader (with XmlReaderSettings and

Validation_EventHandler to do it). Depend on users preference, I would like to change the output message generated by  Validation_EventHandler in french or english.

Any idea on how to perform this?

Web Services: Extend the ASP.NET WebMethod Framework with Business Rules Validation

In an earlier article the authors showed how to build a custom WebMethods extension that provides XML Schema validation, a function that is lacking in ASP.NET. In the process they established a foundation for enforcing business rules during the deserialization of XML data. The technique, which is described in this article, uses declarative XPath assertions to test business rule compliance.In building this business rules validation engine, the authors integrate the validation descriptions into the WSDL file that is automatically generated by the WebMethod infrastructure. Finally, they demonstrate how to extend wsdl.exe, the tool that generates WebMethod proxy/server code from WSDL files, to make use of their extensions.
