Problem with MOM using DMO to connect to SQL 2000 instance

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Since the bank holiday weekend the following error message have been generated in MOM The SQL Server management pack script "SQL Server 2005 Service Availability" is unable to successfully connect to the SQL Server instance "SQL2000 instance running on server". The error message returned is "[SQL-DMO]Code execution exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" Could not connect using SQLDMO to SQL Instance 'SQL 2000 instance running on server' . However, the instance is currently running. I have carried out fixes as per MS details ie registered sqldmo.dll and checked for user accounts being denied and the error continues and now I have the following error appearing: The SQL Server management pack script "SQL Server 2005 Service Availability" is unable to successfully connect to the SQL Server instance "SQL 2005 server running on the same server". The error message returned is "[SQL-DMO]Code execution exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" I have another server with the same SQL2000 and SQL2005 instances set up which is monitored in the same manner but is not reporting these errors

SQL Server Express2008 R2 brings app down, instance problem

I have tried dozens of changes and modifications to many settings as I will outilne here and all to no avail.

The short answer here though is that I uninstalled SQL Sever Express 2008 R2 and went back to the "NON" 2008 R2 and got things working. But like the fool I am wanted to run on the more current rev and updated again, all problems returned....

VWD2008 Express

SQL Server Express 2008

I was orginally getting this message after updating to SQL Sever Express 2008 R2, I removed VWD 2008 Express from the web server, no good, then uninstalled SQL Server 2008 Express R2 and reinstalled SQL Server 2008 Express. worked but had issues, couldn't install MGTM Studio. Then I removed SQL 2008, cleaned folders and reg. Reloaded SQL Server 2008 Express, still flaky, couldn't get the Management Studio to install. So I removed it again and used the Web Platform Installer, which worked but loaded 2008 R2 again. Which brought back the message.

Is afecting only some clusters instances (normal servers are not beeing afected). I'm using mom 2005 ver 5.0.2911.0 and windows server 2003 sp2, sql server 2005 sp3. I have compared 2 instances : one with alert with other without the altert and I could see no difrences. DMO Looks well installed. - How to debug that DMO is working fine ? - How to change the dmo security ? - Why is afecting only some instances and not all ?

Can not connect to user instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services in Visual Studio 2

I used SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (not SQL Server 2008 Express) in Visual Studio 2010 because it is the fast and easy way to developed and managed data-driven applications with powerful built-in reporting and full-text search functionality. I received Sql Server 2008 Service Pack 1 with Windows Update. It's ok if I connect to instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services (with SP1) through SQL Server Management, but if I try to attach a database in Server Explorer (Visual Studio 2010), I get the following error: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." I'm stuck at this point. Is there a fix or a workaround? I've already tried deleting the 'C:\Users\Administrtor\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS' directory as mentioned in other posts, with no luck. The error.log at 'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS\error.log' has the following relevant entries: 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      Error: 17156, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      initeventlog: Could not initiate the EventLog Service for the key '3677F6D3-17C7-4F', last error code is 2. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server &

Cannot connect to Sql Server Local Instance

I browse to the server instance and i keep getting the same error even though i chose windows authentication option during the installation. I restarted the service for the sql server instance (which is running). The only problem i can think about is a problem with permissions but again there should not be any problem there because i logged in as administrator. Any suggestions please!!!

Problem with users needing sysadmin server role to connect to db

When we create a new user in SQL Management Studio 2005 and give it just the public server role, it does not allow us to connect to the db. We found that we had to give it the sysadmin server role in order to allow it to connect to the db. We are using a UDL file in order to test connect. It seems that this is true for all users we create in SQL Management Studio 2005. Is there a way where we can change it so that users are not required to have the sysadmin server role in order to connect to a db? We would like it so that if they have at least the public server role, they should be able to connect to the db.

I forgot my SA password for my instance of SQL 2000

Hi all,

I have SQL 2000 and I forgot my SA password and cannot login as administrator using windows authentication.

Is there any way to reset SA password?

"Mixed Mode" authentication is enabled.

If I change authentication mode in register to Windows only and then after restarting SQL change it back to Mixed, will it reset SA password to "null"?

Thanks in advance.

Outlook - "connect to SharePoint" and possible problem with irish names

Hi all,

I encountered a problem with the calendar page

This results in the ribbon not being displayed i.e. the user doesn't have access to settings/connect to outlook etc. the user also does not have access to "+add item" and therefore cannot add calendar entries.

this error appears when I log in with an Irish user name . you may be familiar that Irish names contain "O' " e.g. O'Brien or O'Neill

when I log in as another user name without apostrophes I don't receive this error.

A possible workaround is to "connect to outlook" in reverse. is it possible to "connect to sharepoint" from Outlook ?

I know it is possible to connect to SharePoint from the backstage in

Problem with large data output after migration from 2000 to SQL 2008 R2

We have Windows Advanced Server 2000 and SQL Enterprise Edt. 2000. Our application is client-server application.
On server we have Server Components they use - IIS, COM+, message queueing and SQL.
On client side is VB 6.0 client. Client sends XML request to our IIS.

Now, we are trying to do migration from 2000 to 2008 Environment (x32).

We install Windows Enterprise Edt. 2008 and SQL Enterprise Edt. 2008 R2.

DBA did conversion of our 2000 database, and now it is on SQL 2008 R2.
On server we also install Server Components they use IIS 7, COM+, message queueing and SQL.

We have problems with big quantity of data.
On server, through SQL Analyser - when we send a query - it works - very quickly.

On client when we send same search it fails. It depend on question, client sometimes failed after 30 sec, sometimes after 50 sec.

I don't know where to start looking?
I check IIS 7, time out, etc.

- could it be that SQL 2008 R2 sends some other type of data, then client expects?
- could it be some xml parser error?
- or somewhere on Windows 2008 or IIS ?

This looks for me like "cloudy" question, but pls if anyone have some idea let me know.

thank you for your time,
