SSRS 2008 R2 Add-in Performance Issues

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I have a very interesting issue with a customer.  They use lots of images in their reports.  The report performance is very poor after deploying the report to Sharepoint Integrated Mode and executing the report from Sharepoint Report Viewer.   The single server is setup with SQL Server 2008 R2.  Sharepoint and Reporting Services are running all on the same server.    The goal is to be able to use the Report Viewer Web Part and Sharepoint Filters to create Dashboards.   We have tried the following ways to get satisfactory performance out of these reports:  ·         When we run the reports in a page viewer web part in Sharepoint against a native SQL 2008 Report Manager on another server, they execute great ·         When we run the reports in a page viewer web part in Sharepoint against the Sharepoint Integrated Report server on same server, they execute way more quickly then when using the Report Viewer against the same Sharepoint Integrated Report server . ·         When we remove the images from the reports  and execute the reports via report viewer or in the Integrated library they execute satisfactorily in both Report Manager and Sharepoint Integrated - but th

SSRS 2008 R2 Rendering Performance

I am implementing a matrix report in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2.  There are about 37 rows and 10 columns where each cell has an Indicator graphic (so about 370 cells).  The report shows loading for a few seconds but then freezes for about 2-3 minutes before the report pops up. Other matrix reports without the indicators seem to render just fine. Is there some way to improve the performance of reports such as these with many indicators in each cell?

Server 2008 R2 64 bit, SSRS 2008 64 bit with Report Builder 3.0 issues with Oracle OLE Driver

Folks, ran out of idea on this issues. Setup as shown at the Title. I can connect via VS 2010  but report builder cannot run properly when setup with connection string. I use a 32 bit Oracle Driver and VS 2010 works well with it, however, Report Builder on SSRS report a bad image issues while attempting to use the same driver. What have been tried: 1-Already attempted to try to download Oracle ODP drivers 64 bit, but current driver 11g and minor version above 11g does not install, installation failed. So far all chats indicated that Server 2008 R2 does not have a Oracle 64 bit driver provided y Oracle. Any help is appreciated ....

Are there workarounds for SSRS 2008 Reports that have issues in SSRS 2008 R2

We have some SSRS 2008 reports which have a few issues in SSRS 2008 R2: - Page Numbering: Our reports use [PageNumber] of [TotalPages] however, in R2 [Total Pages] only relates to a particular section.  Do we really need to update every single report in design mode to use [OverallTotalPages]?  Is there a workaround? - Report Rendering: Each page of a report is only rendered when each new page of the report is requested.  How do we prevent this is R2? - Missing Data: If we run a report that should have 50 pages of data, not all pages are shown when viewing the report.  For example, only 2 pages might show.  However, if we export to PDF the whole 50 pages are exported.  Does anyone know why this is happening? Looking for patches, workarounds, etc.  Hoping that we don't need to upgrade desktops to R2 and edit hundreds of reports to fix these issues. Thanks, Howie999

Reporting Services 2008 Performance Issues

We are experiencing longer than should be, although intermittent, response times from Reporting Services server when requesting reports via HTTP.  Here's what we've done to try and locate the issue.
  1. We used the FireFox Net panel to locate the request that appears to be the culpret - it is the '...Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=...' request.  This request sometimes returns in 2 seconds and sometimes it takes 20+ seconds
  2. We have checked the Reporting Services ExecutionLogStorage table to see the actual report querying, processing and rendering times for the report and since the report has been up, the total time reported by Reporting Services is less than 3 seconds total (even less than 1 second most of the time)
  3. We're almost positive that there isn't a network issue - we're able to ping the server (although on a different subnet) while the report is taking it's 20+ seconds to return and the network has excellent ping results
  4. We've run a packet sniffer during the http request of the report - the browser sends a few messages to the server, the server responds.&n

SSRS 2008 Performance vs SSRS 2008 R2 Performance

Is there is any difference in performance wise in between these two versions.

i have deployed a report in both the environments. The report is very quick in SSRS 2008 than SSRS 2008 R2.

when we are going to new version (Updated version) performance should be increase. but SSRS 2008 R2 is very slow in executing the report. did i miss any config setting while installing SSRS 2008 R2.

Pls advice me, your help will be appreciated.

Issues with Migrating SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2008

Hi All,

Our Team working on migration of reports. But in our SSRS 2005 reports RDL's they added small piece of code(Highlighted)  in

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Report xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2005/01/reportdefinition">

SSRS 2008 R2 and Sharepoint 2010 - performance problems

Hi all,

I'm currently in a DWH project using SSRS 2008 R2 x64 in Sharepoint Integrated mode along with Sharepoint 2010, and we're seeing massive performance problems even though traffic on the server is at a bare minimum. We're in development with a maximum of a few users online at any given time and the server itself isn't doing a whole lot...cpu is usually < 20%. We have timed the database queries and 90% of them are taking less than a second to execute while reports takes anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds to load (some heavier reports can occasionally take a lot longer). I am simply unable to get anything to load in less than 5 seconds, even the simples grid from a SELECT TOP 5 * FROM table query takes this long.

The server setup is suboptimal as SQL Server, Reporting Services and Sharepoint are all running on the same virtual machine but with the minimal amount of traffic we have this shouldn't really be a problem. The server is a Win 2008 x64 Datacenter with 4 CPU's and 16GB RAM.

A standard sharepoint page that gets data from the database is returned in milliseconds...why doesn't reporting services do the same? What can I do to increase performance?

SSIS 2008 SCD Performance Issues

We are having 20 dimension tables and each table will be having around 20 million records.

These tables would be loaded on a daily frequency with 5 files, each of 3 million records.

We are currently using SCD transformation for TYPE2 load of data.( to maintain history in the dimension table.)

But SCD is taking a long time to insert the data and below are the statistics that I recorded when I executed the package with sample files:

Run1: File1(0.5 million records)  -2 minutes  (Dimension Table is empty)
Run2: File2(0.5 million records)  -13 minutes (Table has  589,000 records)
Run3: File3(0.5 million records)  -26 minutes (Table has 1,140,000 records)
Run4: File4(0.5 million records)  -37 minutes (Table has 1,680,000 records)
Run5: File5(1 million records)   -51 minutes (Table has 2,780,000 records)

Package elapsed time : 2 hr 9 min

1. How do i improve the performance of the SCD? If not, is there any way of loading a table parallely from file so that i can achive performance?

2. In informatica, we have a partitioning feature to load the data parallely which greatly improves performance. Is there any equivalent feature or workaround in SSIS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SSRS 2008 reporting service proxy issues

Hi friends,

We are facing the following issues after upgrading web reference to ReportService2010.asmx reporting service.

  1. The type or namespace name 'ReportParameter' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
  2. The type or namespace name 'ItemTypeEnum' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

Have any of you faced the same issues while upgrading the service reference?  Are there any alternative classes for the same.

One alternative to the error no. 2 has been given in the following link.

But I am not able to find solution for error 1.  Please provide your views.

SSRS 2008 R2 and sharepoint 2007 report builder problems

I upgraded our enterprise sql server 2008 to sql server 2008 r2 last weekend.  Along with this i installed the report builder 3.0 on the servers as well and the updated ssrs add in for sharepoint.  The upgrade went fine, no errors that i could find.  The problem is now when i go to a library that has the report builder content type enabled and click report builder report under new it does not load report builder 3.0.

I updated the custom report builder url in central administration from /_vti_bin/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_2_0_0_0.application to /_vti_bin/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application

however when i do click the new report builder report it kicks me over to http://company.com/ReportServer_MossEnt  which itemizes out each individual sharepoint site in the farm.

Is the integration of ssrs 2008 r2, sharepoint 2007 and report builder 3.0 work?  did i install the wrong version of the report builder add in?  The above is the only problem i am having now.

all servers are server 2008, 64 bit and moss 2007 enterprise with sp2 & april 2010 cu

SQL 2008 servers and MOSS 2007 with SSRS

I need help figuring out the limitations in a multi-database server environment and MOSS 2007 installation with SSRS.  Here is the run down:

  • I currently have MOSS 2007 server with backend on SQL 2005, which also acts as the SSRS server.  In addition I have another SQL 2005 server where business data resides and against which most of the SSRS reports run.
  • Future plan (over which I don't really have a say) is MOSS 2007 with backend on SQL 2008, which will remain to be the SSRS server.  The second SQL server with business data will be migrated to SQL 2008 R2.

Questions: does this architecture requires SSRS 2008 add-in or SSRS 2008 R2 add-in (integrated mode)?  Will there be an issue of building SSRS 2008 reports that go after SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 data mix?

SSRS 2008 Graph Type?

Greetings -

I am required to plot the following graph in an SSRS report.

Sum of Total Credits to be shown on Positive side and total sum of Debits for a month on negative side. I have created a query which retrieves all the expenses for the month and sums them up before feeding the same to the graph for plotting. Both values returned are positive integers.

(Sorry for the diagram below, i tried to paste an image but it didn't work)

Issues with SSIS and SQL 2008 - Integration services not running

Hey guys, I installed SQL 2008 with complete BI studio including Integration Services. When i check in my services - i cant see my integraiton services in there When i try to connect to Integration Service using localhost, I cant connect it And when i try to run setup of SQL 2008 - It shows that Integration Services already installed and that what i checked when i fetched my Installation tool report from SQL Server to verify i have it installed. Why can i access Integration services, if i already have it, Please suggest with ideas, checks i can make to ensure every setting is in place. Thanks. Would appreciate for quick response.

SSRS 2008 date validation

Hello, Perhaps somone can shed some light on this. I want to make sure the user doesn't set a Startdate > EndDate  in a report. I've done some thing like this: Go to the Report Properties under the Report menu and place this code to the Code Tab. Public Function CheckDate(SDate as Date, EDate as Date) as Integer Dim msg as String msg = "" If (SDate > EDate) Then msg="Start Date should not be later than End Date" End If If msg <> "" Then MsgBox(msg, 16, "Parameter Validation Error") Err.Raise(6,Report) 'Raise an overflow End If End Function Then go to the Report Parameters and Add named it XXX with the datatype is string. Checked the Hidden and Allow blank value ckeckboxes. In Available Values choose Non-Queried and from Default Values choose Non-Queried in right side of textbox then press the FX button then paste this code. =CODE.CheckDate( .Value) But I'm having problems with the =CODE.CheckDate( .Value)  syntax. SSRS errors out. Any suggestions/insights? --joe

Help Passing Multiple Parameters Via a URL in SSRS 2008

Hello Everyone, I'm totally and completely confused as to how to pass multiple paramters through a URL.  Book Online is absolutely no help because they do not offer any examples of passing multiple paramters within a URL.  Instead, I get confused over RENDER and COMMAND and what should be repeated where with each paramter and on and on and on. Here's my URL: javascript:void(window.open('http://sereporting01.wdig.com/ReportServer?%2fDOL%2fTEST%2fDisney+Sell-Through&rs:Command=Render&SiteName=Disney,InsertionType=300 x 250,Context=ROS','_blank','resizable=yes,toolbar=0,menubar=0')) What happens is that JavaScript opens a new window but I get a "Reporting Services Error".  I'm assuming it's because my URL parameters are not correct.  Can someone please just give me the correct syntax so that I can get on with my work? I'm editing this post to add - I'm also confused as to how paramters are supposed to be passed through to a report when default paramters are set up in the report which i'm trying to open with the URL.  Should I remove the default paramaters from the report or...what? Again, BOL offers no help on this issue and it just seems to generate more questions.  Thanks!!
