Custom Activities

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application
Hi, I need to create following custom activities( dynamic design): - circle with image in it and 2 connect points one left, one right - rectangle with image in it and 2 connect points one left, one right - diamond with image in it and 2 connect points one up,one down I also need to catch clicks on activities and nodes. How do you recommend I do this? I was aiming for FreeFormActivityDesigner( with overriding OnPaint, CanConnect etc), but that seems to be unusable in 4.0 Thank you very much

Serializaing/deserializing XOMLs with custom activities that have properties of ISerializable types

I have custom activities that have dependency properties of types that implement ISerializable. When they are serialized/deserialized to XOML, the ISerializable-implied functionality is ignored and the standard reflection-based SerializableAttribute behavior is invoked. This poses a serious problem since the types require precise control over their serialization to ensure that proper internal state is maintained across serialization boundaries. I am aware of the WF custom serialization methods as mentioned in Tom Lakes' blog post, but they seem to require the DesignerSerializerAttribute attribute on all custom types. This is a problem because the types are business objects shared across many (non-WF) applications and they are part of a seperate code base to which I have no access. Is there a different method for getting custom serialization? And what is the reasoning behind the WF team choosing to ignore the very basic ISerializable attribute which is supported by every other .NET API across the framework? Thanks in advance.

How to Add custom WF4 Activities to ToolBox using Code?

Hi I have a number of custom activities in my dll. My requirement is to add the custom activities to ToolBox using Code/installer. I written the following code System.Reflection.Assembly asm; asm = Assembly.LoadFrom(Path.Combine(assemblyPath, @"MyProject.dll")); var types = from t in asm.GetExportedTypes() where typeof(Activity).IsAssignableFrom(t) select t.FullName; if (types != null && types.Count() > 0) { string activityName; foreach (var item in types) { activityName = item.Substring(item.LastIndexOf(".") + 1); myTab.ToolBoxItems.Add(activityName, item); } } Above code is adding the activities to the Toolbox as HTML Controls. How can I add the same as WF4 Activities in Toolbox ? Thanks AmbilyIT Analyst

Custom sequence activity deriving from System.Workflow.Activities.SequenceActivity

Hi, I try to create custom sequence activity. I found some sample (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wfprerelease/thread/f54e8eb2-29d9-46f6-ad96-766fe6fad333/). But this custom activity looks ugly (to separate nested activity using ellipses instead of arrows). My question is - how to create custom sequence activity, which will look like sequence activity. I also found this sample - <ContentPresenter x:Uid="ContentPresenter_1" Content="{Binding}" Style="{x:Static sacdt:DesignerStylesDictionary.SequenceStyle}"/> When I used this ContentPresenter my custom activity looks like System.Workflow.Activities.SequenceActivity, but I couldn't put on it another activity. I also created class, which derives from System.Workflow.Activities.SequenceActivity, but I couldn't see it in toolbox. My question is - how to create class, which derives from System.Workflow.Activities.SequenceActivity and is visible in toolbox or how to use ContentPresenter for sequence activity, which allows put on itself another activity.

Rehosted Designer does not display custom Activities with custom ActivityDesigner

In a custom Rehosted Designer, when attempt to load a custom activity that has the Designer Attribute, referecing a custom ActivityDesigner, the rehosted designer display only the message "Could not generate view for MyCustomActivity" with red backtext.

When the mouse pointer is passed over the text, the following message is displayed:

Rehosted Designer: Using custom activities from dll

Can you add Dependency Properties to custom activities?

I'm trying to add a simple DependencyProperty to a base activity of mine that inherits from NativeActivity.  Is this possible?  It doesn't seem so since the SetValue and GetValue methods of the dependency property definition are not recognized.

I want a dependency property because I'd like to be able to check the property from a Trigger in the activity designer ... like this:

            <Trigger Property="{Binding Path=ModelItem.IsEnabled}" Value="True">
              <Setter TargetName="Header" Property="<

Creating Variables in "Parent" from Custom Activities in Code

Using Workflow 4, I've created a series of custom activities (e.g. Create Email, Upload Email To Document Management System etc.) that need to pass data between each other during execution within a "parent" workflow.. I've read that the recommended method to do this is by using variables declared at the correct scope.  This is easy to do in the designer, so in a standard flow diagram or sequence I create my variables manually, then drop in my custom activities as "children" and assign variables to their InArguments/OutArguments as appropriate.

Unfortunately, this is VERY manual and I'd like to do it in code if possible.   I know that I can create an OutArgument to pass the value back to the parent workflow.. but I need to dynamically create the workflow variable to store that value in as well.. I've read in other posts about people wanting to do similar things..

e.g. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/wfprerelease/thread/4958777a-77c3-448b-aac5-6933eaf726f5

..some of them have tried using the NativeActivityContext.Property (doesn't work directly between two "siblings", they have to be put in a custom container that sets the needed values on its own context p

How do I Access Variables Between Custom Activities From Code?

Basically, I have custom activity and I have a variable in it that I would like to access in another custom actvity. It it possible to do this without writting the acutal workflow from code and still use the designer? The best way to describe it would be that I want to declare a global variable from within an activity that would be available to any other activity.

This is an example of what I am trying to:

public class activity1 : NativeActivity

    protected override void Execute(NativeActivityContext context)
      string text = "Sent between activities!";

And here is the activity in which I would like to get the contents of the property:

 public class activity2 : NativeActivity
    protected override void Execute(NativeActivityContext context)
      string text = "";
      text = Convert.ToString(context.Properties.Find("globalText"));

Stepping through the code shows that the "context" object has zero properties once I enter the second activity. According to different sources this should be working because the context object should still contain my property correct?

How to drop Activities in Custom Activity Designer having custom style template?

I have designed a custom activity designer developed using Activity Designer XAML and using that in a rehosted Workflow environment on a WPF. I have changed the outer design of the Activity designer by setting the style template to my required style. If I do this, I am unable to add the activities to the custom activity having my custom activity designer.

Am I missing anything.? Please help me in this regard.

Thanks in advance,

Adornments on activities in rehosted designer not working for activities without a custom designer

I've been working with the sample provided at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kushals/archive/2010/01/04/base-designer-with-additional-adornments.aspx and the workaround suggested for activities that don't have a custom designer (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kushals/archive/2010/03/12/base-designer-with-additional-adornments-ii.aspx). However, I cannot get the adornments to work - they simply do not show up. I notice that someone else had the same problem as me and posted a comment on the second blog article and didn't get a reply. I've also tried contacting the author with no success.

Does anyone have the source code to the sample, or know how to get it working?

Custom Controls in C# .NET

Embedding user controls in a Windows form is just like adding a simple button or text box that are already provided with .NET. These basic controls were written essentially like you code your own controls. Typically the controls you design are to be used in multiple forms or to modularize your code. These reasons help reduce the amount of code you have to type as well as make it easier for you to change your implementation. There should almost never be any reason to duplicate code because it leaves a lot of room for bugs. So, implementing functionality specific to your control in the control's source code is a good idea. This reduces code duplication as well as modularize your code, which is a good programming guideline.

Writing custom MembershipProvider

ASP.NET Membership mechanism allows to use the build-in server tables to store and retrieve user data. By default, this mechanism can only be used with SQL Server database to which Microsoft provides suitable MembershipProvider class.
Inheriting from this abstract class, developer can use his own table(-es) from any database and use any database engine other than SQL Server, like Oracle, DB2 etc.

Custom Editing Behavior for DataGridView TextBox Columns

For various reasons I'm using a DataGridView instead of a ListView, and while configuring the DataGridView to look like a ListView wasn't much of a problem, there's one thing that got on my nerves, which is the behavior of textbox cells in edit mode: It is much too easy to leave the edit mode accidentally, simply by pressing the cursor keys at the wrong time. For example when the text caret is positioned behind the last character of the textbox cell content, and you press the right arrow key

Write Custom WebParts for SharePoint 2007

The popularity of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 led Microsoft to tightly integrate the next SharePoint version, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, with its ASP.NET 2.0 WebPart framework. This tight integration enables the ASP.NET and SharePoint developer to do a number of things that previously weren't possible
