WCF REST webservice authentication error when hosted with godaddy

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF
Hi guys, I'm currently hosting my site on a shared windows hosting box with Godaddy. I have upgraded my hosting account to .NET 3.5 and having IIS7 as well which is in integrated pipeline mode. I recently build a simple WCF web service using the REST started kit preview 2. Once i uploaded it to the server, I am getting this error"IIS specified authentication schemes 'Basic, Anonymous', but the binding only supports specification of exactly one authentication scheme. Valid authentication schemes are Digest, Negotiate, NTLM, Basic, or Anonymous. Change the IIS settings so that only a single authentication scheme is used." You can see it here:http://sawasdeethaiart.com/service.svcThe obvious fix for as i have read from various websites, is to make sure I configure my IIS to have either Basic or Anonymous specification enabled. But as i am on a shared hosting account, i dont have any access to do this. (I have checked all my options in the IIS hosting panel, but there is no option). I am also done this in my web.config<authentication mode="None"></authentication> Is there any other option I can add  to my web.config to overcome this? or is there any other fix for this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Mark

WCF REST webservice hosted in a windows service

Hi, I created a WCF REST service which had a method "Result":

public interface IService

   [OperationContract(Name =  "Result")]

   [WebGet(UriTemplate = "/")]

   string Result();

When I went to the default page http://localhost:portnumber/Service.svc it would display the string returned by Result().

I then wanted to host the WCF service in a Windows Service. The service is running fine and I can browse to the baseAddress. However in this setup it displays the default "You have created a service" page and doesn't execute the method returning the string.

I'm not even sure if this is possible. In summary is it possible to how a WCF REST service in a Windows Service and get it to respond to HTTP GET requests?

Can anybody suggest a solution?

Looking for a simple Service and Console Client REST sample implementing BASIC authentication

Does anyone know of a C# code sample demonstrating WCF REST services and console test client with OperationContracts (GET and POST) implementing mutiple paramaters using BASIC authentication? Also, perhaps, using Fiddler as a test client as well? I have searched high and low for something like this, but have not had any success.

Solved: LDAP authentication: error code 49 - 80090308, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 52

Hi, I have a problem conneting to another domain (far.away.domain). We have a two-way trust to this domain. Also I can access the DS using ADSI edit and our Administrator account (ourdomain.com). I tried several types of credentials (userid = "CN=Administrator,CN=Users,DC=ourdomain,DC=com", "Administrator @ ourdomain.com" (without blanks)...). Connecting to ourdomain.com is no problem, but to far.away.domain I can't connect, I always get the error 525 (user not found). What could be the problem? Have I to use an entry from the ForeignSecurityPrincipals CN of the far.away.domain? I also tried to connect using Softerra LDAPBrowser and a command line ldapsearch without succes and with not a better error message. But why is it not possible to use a trusted account, or is this a active directory feature and does not work with pure LDAP bindings? Best regards, Nils.

GoDaddy + WCF REST Service

I am newbie when it comes to developing a WCF REST Service. I have been reading up and have worked through hands-on labs/watched videos by Ron Jacobs to help me get a hold of WCF REST.  I have had no problems running my web service on my localhost. However it is now time to upload my "WCF Service Application" (not WCF Library) to GoDaddy's servers and this is where I am running into issues. As per Ron Jacobs tutorials I have removed my endpoints from my web.config file and the markup code in my .svc file now reads: <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Service="DealService.Service" CodeBehind="Service.svc.cs" Factory="System.ServiceModel.Activation.WebServiceHostFactory"%> I proceeded to compile and then upload my code to GoDaddy and now am trying to access the web service, but am receiving the following error: Server Error in '/' Application. Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately.  Parser Error Message: The CLR Type 'System.ServiceModel.Activation.WebServiceHostFactory' could not be loaded during service compilation. Verify that this type is either defined in a source file located in the application's \App

WCF REST and Custom Error Handler

I have a RESTful WCF service, and I am trying to roll a custom behavior that extends the WebHttpBehavior, to provide my service a custom error handler (by implementing IErrorHandler of course). When I debug my service, the only breakpoint I hit is the getter on the BehaviorExtensionElement's BehaviorType property. None of the other methods are ever invoked; BehaviorExtensionElement.CreateBehavior(), WebHttpBehavior.AddServerErrorHandlers(), as well as nothing in my implementation of IErrorHandler. This leads me to believe that something isn't being registered with WCF. My service is defined in the app.config. When I step-through a call to one of my service's operations, I would expect that the process of throwing an exception would force my service to transfer the work to my error handler. But this is not the case... My service stops and throws me an unhandled exception, and nothing is sent to the client as a result. Am I doing something wrong? Am I not understanding this process? If someone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated! My code basically has implementations of IErrorHandler, and classes that derive WebHttpBehavior with an override on AddServerErrorHandlers(), and also BehaviorExtensionElement with an override for the property BehaviorType and method CreateBehavior(). Nothing fancy, but I have a feeling I may be missing something...This is my app.config:&

PUT method gives error 400 "Bad Request" in WCF REST Service Application

I am trying to learn WCF REST Services through http://blogs.msdn.com/endpoint/archive/2010/01/14/updating-state-in-wcf-webhttp-services.aspx , It's a link of Part 3 of 12 part blog series. Now I am trying the same stuff given in the part 3 with my own Entities and Entity Model instead of what is given in the blog. Here is my full project I am working on .. http://cid-9e3f62c0688824b0.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/pronerveEPMS.zip For comparision with the code shown in the Blog I am following, you can download the zip file of the project from the same link given here at starting (At the end of the blog and before comments starts). And here is the method in Program.cs file of console project in my application that raises the exception.....        private static Role UpdateRole(HttpClient hc, Role role1)        {            Console.WriteLine("Updating Role {0} : ",     role1.RoleID);            Console.WriteLine();            string updateURI = "Roles/" + role1.RoleID.ToString();            HttpContent content = HttpContentExtensions.CreateDataContract(role1);            using (HttpResponseMessage response = hc.Put(upd

REST Webservice with Visual Studio 2005

Hello I'm trying to write a REST Webservice with VS2005 and .NET 2.0  in C#. I was happy to find an example on http://www.codeproject.com/KB/architecture/RESTWebServicesPart2.aspx, because I'm not experienced in ASP.NET, but this example was developed with VS2008. I tried to import the project to VS2005, but it did not work. I started a new project in VS2005 New>>Website>>ASP.NET Web Site It created a folder  App_Data, a file Default.aspx and another file called Default.aspx.cs, which i deleted and then replaced with the folders RESTHandlers and RESTService and the file Web.config.   The Web.config file looks like this: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="true"> </compilation> <httpHandlers> <clear/> <add verb="PUT" path="*" validate="false" type="RESTHandlers.PutHandler, RESTHandlers"/> <add verb="POST" path="*" validate="false" type="RESTHandlers.PostHandler, RESTHandlers"/> <add verb="GET" path="*" validate="false" type="RESTHandlers.GetHandler, RESTHandlers"/> <add verb="DELETE" path="*" validate="false" type="RESTHandlers.DeleteHandler, RESTHandlers"/>

SQL Server 2008 Windows Authentication Mode fails for Database Engine, error 18456

I installed SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition (10.0.1600.22.080709-1414) on a Windows Vista 32-bit development machine with Windows Authentication Mode only (no SQL Server Authentication).   Since this is a development machine, I saw no need for Mixed Mode when I did the install.  The SQL Server Management Studio allows me to login to Analysis Services, Integration Services, Reporting Services, BUT NOT the Database Engine!Windows Authentication for the Database Engine gives the following error: EventID: 18456Login failed for user MYDOMAIN\MYLOGIN'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>]The 'fix' I have found online is to login as SA in SQL Server Authentication mode & add MYDOMAIN\MYLOGIN as a administrator for the Database Engine.  Unfortunately, I can't since I didn't install SQL Server Authentication mode (only Windows Authentication Mode).  It appears my only recourse is to uninstall, then reinstall in Mixed mode, then to login as SA in SQL Server Authentication mode & add MYDOMAIN\MYLOGIN as a administrator for the Database Engine. Before I do so, does anyone know of a better approach?Scott D Duncan

WCF REST deployment Error: "Resource Does not exist"

I am trying to access http://localhost/TestServiceHost/TestService.svc and I am getting the following error: Error Description: 'Resource does not exist' This may be because an invalid URI or HTTP method was specified. Please see the service help page for constructing valid requests to the service. The funny thing is that http://localhost/TestServiceHost/TestService.svc/help is working fine. Not only that, all my endpoints are working fine. I am using IIS 7.5 (Win 2008 R2). Application developed using .NET 4.0.  Following is the code (extracted from my prototype) and configuration:   <ServiceContract()> Public Interface ITestSvc <OperationContract()> <Description("")> <WebInvoke(Bodystyle:=WebMessageBodyStyle.Bare, Method:="POST", UriTemplate:="GetCodes")> Function GetCodes(ByVal oReq As ReqGetCodes) As RespGetCodes End Interface Public Class TestSvc Implements ITestSvc Public Function GetCodes(ByVal oReq As ReqGetCodes) As RespGetCodes Implements ITestSvc.GetCodes Dim o As New RespGetCodes Dim lstGetCodes = New List(Of ClassGetCodes) From { New ClassGetCodes With {.App_Code = "a1", .SystemFlag = True}, New ClassGetCodes With {.App_Code = "a2", .SystemFlag = False}, New ClassGetCodes With {.App_Code = "a

SSRS DataSource as XML (Using WebService) Error: Credentials

Hello all, I have a requirement in which i have to generate reports (using SSRS) with my Sharepoint list as Data Source. This can be done by consuming the web services in my SSRS, by providing the connection string and Type = XML. My connection string when browsed in browser, "http://<server name>/_vti_bin/lists.asmx" gives me the *method lists* in the <server name>.. which is fine. However when this is used in my DataSource in SSRS, i get the following error: "You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. The Web server has a filter installed to verify users connecting to the server and it failed to authenticate your credentials." :( In the credentials tab, i am using the "Windows Authenticated"   Any help is highly appreciated. :)

REST WCF Serialization error

SQL Server Authentication Error

I have installed sql server 2000 and sql server 2005 in windows XP. In a Sql server 2000 enterprise manager, it shows two groups. The first one is local machine (Windows NT) and the second one is SQLEXPRESS (Windows NT).

I successfully set sql server and windows authentication by clicking Local (windows NT) properties and then security, but I can't able to set SQL Server and windows Authentication in SQLEXPRESS. It display message connection failed check SQL SERVER Registration Properties.

Morever When I used to set SQL  Server & windows Authentication mode using SQL Server 2005 Management studio, it sets perfectly but when i fire a query just to know the version of sql server 2005 , it shows

"Microsoft SQL Server  2000 - 8.00.194 (Intel X86)   Aug  6 2000 00:57:48   Copyright (c) 1988-2000 Microsoft Corporation  Desktop Engine on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 3) "

So in this case I can't able to restore my previous database that has been previously developed in sql server 2005.

Kindly help in this matter..

I have managed to get the Forms Authentication sample to work bu there is a hitch. I am running Report Server and Report Manager on the same(test) PC. I can logon to the Report Server without a problem but when I try logon from the UILogon.aspx page for Report Manager I receive the following error:

Error while consuming Webservice

I'm consuming one webservice which hosted in IIS in my windows service. While consuming that web service proxy method I'm getting below error.

But its not happening regularly, randomly it s happening. Sometime its working very fine.

Error is :

The content type text/html of the response message does not match the content type of the binding (text/xml;charset=utf-8). If using a encoder, be sure that the IsContentTypeSupported method is implemented properly. The first 163 bytes of the response were "<html><head><title>Error</title></head><body> Either a required imersonation level was not provided, or the provided impersonation level is invalid </body></html>

Thanks in advance,

Method in type 'x' from assemby 'x' does not have an implementation - wcf hosted in iis error

Hi All

I have created a service in my asp.net project. It works alright in dev. When I installed the website on test server I started getting this error. I could not even browse the service in IIS on the test box. I have double checked the references to service contract and implementation. If there would have been incorrect reference, I would have not found implementation in dev as well.

Please help. Thanks
