user permission in granula level in SharePoint version 2

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 31, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi, everyone:   I am administrator of a SharePoint v2 site. I found that I can either give "view item" or "view item, insert item, remove item and update item" permission to users, no middle. However, I do wish to give some users "view, edit" permission, but no "insert and remove item" permission.   So, does SharePoint v2 support this in out of box feature? if yes, how to make it, if no how can we achieve in easiest way?   Thank u MySTfrom Finland :D

Give permission to all users of a customized sharepoint portal, where all the user controls of the w

Hello there

I have created a sharepoint portal and customized it. I have created my own master page and there are many webparts implemented. This has been hosted in a MOSS server. When a normal user is trying to access the portal first thing in the morning, he is getting a "You are not authorized to view this page" error. But when a site admin access the site, there is no issue and he is able to access the site. The site admin does nothing in the site and once he has logged in to the site,  the user is able to access the site without any trouble.

I have found what was causing the issue. But dont know whats the fix for it.

The issue is...We were trying to place all the usercontrols created as part of our application in a seperate folder under ControlTemplate folder. This is what was not allowing the users who are not site admins. But it was ok, when the admin first accesses the same.

WHat is the fix for this ... to make the new folder accessable to all users ??

Kindly help...

Why does Microsoft not provide a user friendly version of MS SharePoint similiar to the old Share Po

Back in the early days of MS SharePoint you could install SharePoint Team Services on any computer that had the capacity to run Windows XP or Windows 2000 Server.  It was a straight forward app with it's own data engine which didn't require the installation/hassle of installing MS SQL Server.

For those of us who are running MS apps/OS such as Windows Home Server we are finding that you have to either build or purchase something equivalent to a HP Media Server EX490/495 to be able to use MS SharePoint Services 3.0 or MS SharePoint Foundation.

For home user/small business users why not provide a version MS SharePoint that is more user friendly for the everyday Windows 7 end user who is using Win 7 Pro or better?  I can install the old SharePoint Team Services from my old Office 10 Pro CD and get it to work in a Virtual PC Win XP environment on Windows 7 Pro but then have to perform a lot of tasks to get it talk outside the Virtual PC environment and make it accessible to other Win 7 users.

With every good app Microsoft comes out with, they seem to develop it to the extent that you have to be a Microsoft geek just to use it.  I have lost numerous customers who were using MS Sharepoint solutions in the past because they are SMALL businesses and do not have the luxury or budget to be purchasing QUAD core servers, Win Server 2008 - R2, MS S

Can't add item using client object model of sharepoint 2010 with read only permission to user.

I have already developed Silverlight application in SharePoint 2010 using client object model.

But I have one scenario that user can comment on the item, so there is a update operation come in picture for user, but user have read only permission to site.

So please help me resolved this problem.

We can use Run with elevated privileges method in SP object model. I think Silverlight client object model don’t support this method.

Is there any alternative workaround to solve this problem?

Item level permission for Custom List in sharepoint

Hi all,

I have created a custom list with work flow associated with that. The workflow takes the item through different levels of approval.

My workflow scenario is like Say an initiator add an item, which will go to manager for approval. When the manager approves, few columns in the current list will get updated. On manager approval it will be forwarded to head of department. Again when the Dept head takes an action, the column values of the list get updated. For all these users i have set Contribute permission. But the problem is that an item started by an initiator should not be editable or deleted by other users using the pull down menu that appears for each item. Only the owner of the item and manager should have permission to edit it using the pull down menu. When i tried changing the edit access for the item through Advance settings-->Item level permission --Edit access being set to "Only their own" while manager or dept head approving i get an access denied error message.

Can any one please suggest me what is the work around for this?

SharePoint Workflow and Permission Problems - User cannot edit assigned task

I've seen numerous posts on here talking about the same problem we're having, but the solutions listed in those do not work for us. So I apologize for reposting this subject, but we're getting desperate.

We have a custom workflow that is assigning a task to a user, then that user is clicking "edit the task" and getting access denied.  We've broken permission inheritance on the document library where the workflow is kicked off, the task list, and the workflow list (accessing through permissions in SPD) and given the user having the issue full control of these lists and libraries. This results in the user still getting access denied. When we add the user to the Owners Group of this particular site, the user can edit the task with no error message. This isnt' a solution of course as we cannot have the user in the owner's group.

We have custom workflows on several of our SharePoint sites and have never had this problem before. We've now spent a combined total of 6 hours on the phone with Microsoft Support and no one can tell us what the problem is. Help!

SharePoint 2010 - Column Validation (List Level) User Message Missing

I first saw this issue being discussed in January 2010 here, but there has not been any response in some time.

What basically happens is when you set column validation for the list level (not per column) the message that alerts the user that the column does not meet the validation requirements is completely missing.   Both the default message or a custom message do not show up.

Does anyone know if there is a hotfix for this issue yet?  I would expect more than a year later there would be one, but if so I can't seem to find it.  I would really like to correct this issue as column validation is a nice enhancement over SharePoint 2007.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

How to track the changes of user contacts(colleagues) by using SharePoint API

We might have seen colleague tracker web part which keep tracks the changes made in our contacts/colleagues details like profile/lists/sites. The same tracking mechanism can be implemented by using MOSS API in any custom web part/ web control/ feature/web service...

UserProfile.GetColleagueChanges is the method which returns all changes happened with the contacts, this method also accepts a Query (UserProfileChangeQuery) where we can specify different parameters to filter the changes

Error "user does not have permission to perform this operation" with User Instance = True.

I setup SQL Server 2005 / SQL Express. All works fine in SQL Server 2005.

I am connecting to a SQL Database from VS 2005,  Tools/Connect to Database. I set the Data Source to "Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient)" (meaning SQL Server Express) and User Instance = True, and Integrated Security = True.

The above is working successfully on all machines except my Laptop. On my Laptop, I am getting this error "user does not have permission to perform this operation". On my Laptop, if I change User Instance = False, it works fine. Also, If I connect to SQL Server 2005 it works fine only if User Instance = False.

I tried all kind of security changes, nothing worked. For example, I setup Everyone as Full Control for the Folder and the MDF File of SQL Server. I gave my user ID as sysadmin role in SQL Server Express. Also, I enabled creating User Instance form SQL Server Express, Nothing is working.

Appreciate your help.
