SharePoint 2010 in place upgrade "Cannot complete the action"

I currently did an inplace upgrade to SharePoint 2010 Standard in a medium farm deployment with one WFE and a remote SQL server with one site collection.  The upgrade process was marked as finished in CA.  The problem now is with the root site in the site collection is throwing the error "Cannot complete the action".  I've narrowed it down to the "Pages" library in the the root site.  The root site is using site template id = 20 template name = SPS#0, and template title = SharePoint Portal Server Site.  If I hard code the URL in IE address bar I can get everywhere on the root site including the settings page of the "Pages" library.  The error is thrown when I try to access the "Manage Permissions" link of the "Pages" library or when I try to browse to http://<rootsite>/pages/default.aspx. I believe the default.aspx page was customized by the customer when they were on SharePoint 2007 Standard.

MOSS 2007 - 64-bit SP2 Upgrade Breaks Central Administration and doesn't complete

I am setting up a test Intranet Farm for a production Intranet. Everything is being installed on one server. SQL 2005 enterprise 64-bit edition is being used and has been upgraded to SP3. MOSS 2007 with SP1 64-bit edition was used to installed SharePoint and the central administration website installs successfully. I then downloaded WSS 3 SP2 64-bit edition and carried out the installation. As it is a Windows 2008 server with SP2, I use the 'run as administrator', just in-case, even though I am logged on as a local administrator.

The SharePoint Configuration wizard is run post-installation and access to the Central admin website is still available. I am restoring the Farm config for the production Intranet to this test Farm using the in-built backup feature of MOSS 2007 and I am using the GUI. As the production farm has MOSS 2007 SP2, I need to also install that update. I download the MOSS 2007 64-bit update and towards the end of the installation (prior to the configuration wizard appearing) an error occurs stating that the Installation of the Package failed, which appears in a prompt box and a box appears in front with regards to whether a report should be sent.

Central admin then has a 'this page cannot be displayed'.

Best Way to Upgrade Using Web Setup Project

Hi there,

I am using VS2005.

I don't have much experience with web setup projects, but I now need to create a decent windows installer in order to allow customers to install one of our web applications. I have created a simple web setup project and it works fine, but not when it comes to upgrades of the application.

If for instance I install version 1.0 on a machine, and then later I try to install version 2.0, I don't seem to have the control that I would like... I can specify in the web setup project that the installer must enforce an uninstall of previous version, but then all application files and logs are uninstalled as well. If I let the application just install itself over the older version, it seems to leave some old DLL's there - it then causes issues in the application because DLL version conflicts.

My basic requirement is that I would like th installer to upgrade the old version with all the files required, but leave any application and log files in tact - this way the customer won't have to reconfigure the application after install.

What is the best way to handle this?

Who Goes There?: Upgrade Your Site's Authentication with the New ASP.NET 2.0 Membership API

Here Dino Esposito and Andrea Saltarello cover the plumbing of the Membership API and its inherently extensible nature, based on pluggable providers. To demonstrate the features, they take an existing ASP.NET 1.x authentication mechanism and port it to ASP.NET 2.0, exposing the legacy authentication mechanism through the new Membership API.

.NET Delegates: Making Asynchronous Method Calls in the .NET Environment

One of the many great features of the .NET Framework is that it has asynchronous infrastructure built in. In .NET you can call any method asynchronously by defining a delegate for the method and calling the delegate's asynchronous methods. This is beneficial to your application because when a synchronous call is made, the calling thread is blocked until the method completes whereas an asynchronous call is made on a different thread, and this allows the original thread to continue its work while the asynchronous call is in progress. This article explains delegates in .NET and how to use them to perform asynchronous calls, eliminating age-old threading problems.

Windows CE: eMbedded Visual Tools 3.0 Provide a Flexible and Robust Development Environment

This article provides an overview of writing applications for Windows CE 3.0. Unicode support in Windows CE, the kernel, memory management, the object store, and COM and DCOM are discussed. The article also covers the user interface, graphics, the Internet, and how Windows CE compares to the desktop in each of these areas. eMbedded Visual Tools 3.0 is discussed in depth. To help the reader decide which tools to use, development with Visual Basic, Win32, MFC, and ATL are explained. Text editor samples with this article have been developed with Visual Basic and Win32 so their implementations can be compared.

An example of packaging web application containing database upgrade SQL file

A few months ago, we have a blog talking about extending the web publishing pipeline to package database project deployed SQL file.  In this blog, I'll show step by step example of packaging web application with SQL Server database upgrade SQL file using Visual Studio 2010.  This way, we can generate a web package with incremental SQL script to certain database version.  The scenario may help distributions of a web upgrade package which needs to be installed on many different locations, each with their own SQL server database.   1. Create a Web Application Project 2. Add a new "SQL Server 2008 Database Project" to the solution 3. Prepare a development database, such as my test1 database as the following: 4. Convert .docx to web page - "the converter cannot complete the task because an internal error occurr

I'm trying to convert docx files to webpages to be published in to a library elsewhere on our sharepoint site. At first I was having no problem, the files were converting, however more recent files have returned the error: the converter cannot complete the task because an internal error occurred

I've tried writing, uploading and converting a simple docx file, and this works which has led me to believe that the problem is something in the docx files that i'm trying to convert. So i tried using word07 to clean the documents up by clicking Office button>prepare>inspect document then removing all the metadata, custom xml etc from the files resave, upload and convert, but still no joy.

I'd simply rewrite the document but the problem is that there are a lot of them.

Any ideas what's going wrong?

Problems moving an InfoPath form from a DEV system to QA environment

We developed an InfoPath form using a local DEV environment.  The site collection under which the form was developed was http://server1/.

We are now attempting to deploy this form to a TEST environment that uses a slightly different structure for the collection, namely http://server2/sites/sitecol1.

In both cases the site that contains the form is /fin (so we were using http://server1/fin in DEV and want to use http://server2/sites/sitecol1/fin in TEST).

The form contains VBA code and so requires admin-based deployment via Central Administration, so to deploy to TEST we:

1. Publish the form against the TEST server using InfoPath Designer

2. Upload the form using Central Administration > Application Managment > Manage Form Templates

3. After upload, we activate the form for the site collection http://server2/sites/sitecol1/

4. The form is then associated with a Form Library

When we try to create an instance of the form within this library we get the following error when we click on New to create the form instance:
