Video: Enhancing the SharePoint 2010 Search User Interface

SharePoint has opened the search UI so that you are now able to extend the out-of-the-box search Web parts. Search also provides many places for you to create custom code to produce a rich search experience for your users. (Length: 2:04)

Long execution times for Search pages even after 4th or 5th user has accessed the same page.

Hi Guys We have a Sharepoint 2010 farm with two NLB web fronts ends, a Index server and a two box SQL cluster. The same problem also occurs on a dev box which has Sharepoint 2010 and SQl server running on the same single box. When a user access the search or advanced search page we get long execution times of between 15 and 30 seconds.  The strange thing is that the user will have a slow response the first time, then they are fine for a period of an hour or two and then they hit the slow response again.  Below i have copied info from the developer dashboard.  Does anyone have a suggestion of where to start tackiling this issue. Thanks 1st Run.  (Note this site was accessed by 3 other users first) BeginRequestHandler (0.05 ms) PostAuthenticateRequestHandler (0.06 ms) PostResolveRequestCacheHandler (18.48 ms) GetWebPartPageContent (16.87 ms) GetFileAndMetaInfo (15.57 ms) GetWebPartPageContent (35.25 ms) GetFileAndMetaInfo (34.99 ms) GetWebPartPageContent#1 (89.27 ms) GetFileAndMetaInfo (89.06 ms) Add WebParts (3975.17 ms) Search Box (3974.54 ms) SearchBoxEx.OnLoad (15426.56 ms) SearchBoxEx.HandleContextualScoping (0.01 ms) UserPreference.GetUserPreference (15418.52 ms) UserPreference.GetFromCache (0.04 ms) SearchServiceApplicationProxy.GetUse

Use ASP.NET Membership store for user settings with Windwos Authentication

I am evaluating ASP.NET Membership for an intranet Silverlight app. I want users to be automatically authenticated for my application with their windows logon.Thus I configured Windows Authentication.I would like to store user settings like email-address in using the SqlMembershipProvider and not AD. It seems that storing user settings using the SqlMembershipProvider is not supported with Windows Authentication. Is this really so (using .NET 4)? If so: What is the rationale behind this?IMHO authentication, user settings and authorization are distinct aspects.User settings could easily be stored (identified by user name) using the SqlMembershipProvider with authentication and password management being supplied by Windows. What is the recommended solution for my scenario?

user mapping to a database and role membership to that database

When assigning a 'user mapped Login' to a database and role membership to that database, is it redundent to check/enable db_datareader, db_datawriter as well as db_owner or will check/enable db_owner become all that is necessary to provide role membership to the database?

Looking for suggestions or ideas how to setup to capture search criteria and present to user if they

Requirements call for the ability to save search values so that they can select them at later times to return the results without having to re-enter the values. They have the ability to search on 4 different types of data (Date, Time and Lat/Long), so they would like to capture what was entered and ONLY if they chose to save those values, it will be saved and next time they login, if they are searching, they can pick an old search and submit it again.   Im thinking that i add a checkbox next to each button, if they check it, it saves the data into a table with there values and username. Next time they login and go tothe search page, if there are any records for them in the table, i present them with a link that displays all the values stored and if they select one, it will run the search again and present them with the results.. does that sound like the right way to handle this request?

Anonymouse user - Cannot search in SharePoint 2010

I've implemented anonymous access on a publishing portal running on SharePoint 2010.  The site is accessible but the minute I try to complete a search the user is challenged.Search is currently configured to use the native page (_layouts/OSSSearchResults.aspx) and I doubt that NTFS permissions is playing a role.http://technicallead.wordpress.com/

SharePoint Search returns all where user dont have access

We did an architectural change and moved MySites by creating a new MySite host, assigning it to the User Profile Service application and then deleting the old MySite host.

I'd like to avoid recreating the User Profile Service application. Is it possible to fix this UPS issue (I assume it's an UPS issue), without recreating UPS?

Create inactive user using the membership provider

Hello all

I have a CreateUserWizard that uses the membership provider and creates a user in a sql server database.

I need to change the IsApproved property on creation to false.

I know that it can be done by createing a custom navigation template... but then i will have to code all the checks for the creation of the user...

Is there any other way to access that attribute?

this is the aspx code:

<asp:CreateUserWizard ID="createUserWizard" runat="server" Font-Names="Verdana" Font-Size="0.7em">
            <SideBarStyle BackColor="#5D7B9D" BorderWidth="0px" Font-Size="0.9em" VerticalAlign="Top" />
            <SideBarButtonStyle BorderWidth="0px" Font-Names="Verdana" ForeColor="White" />
            <ContinueButtonStyle BackColor="#FFFBFF" BorderColor="#CCCCCC" BorderStyle="Solid"
                BorderWidth="1px" Font-Names="Verdana" ForeColor="#284775" />
            <NavigationButtonStyle BackColor="#FFFBFF" BorderColor="#CCCCCC" BorderStyle="Solid"
                BorderWidth="1px" Font-Names="Verdana" ForeColor="#284775" />

User Profile -- search for Department not working

I am trying to search for users who are in certain department. E.g HR. But the following returns nothing.

In user profile, I have a field department (property name), I wonder why it returns nothing.

And even when I tried http://mycompany.intra/SearchDEf/Pages/peopleresults.aspx?k=Department, it returns only 47 records. And when I actually look at some of the records, some of them have value in department but some of them are empty. So, I am wondering if it is looking at something else instead of the department field.

Please advice. Thanks in advance.
