Why can I not connect to SQL Server Database?

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Can somebody PLEASE try and assist me with this issue - it's been driving me insane for 2 weeks and I am seriously at the end of my tether now... I'm attempting to use ASP.NET Configuration from the Website Menu of Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. (Note: I have downloaded SQL Server 2008 & SQL Server 2008 R2 with VWD 2010 Express via Web Platform Installer.) I'm selecting 'select a single provider for all site management data' followed by; 'AspNetSQLProvider' but every time I try and click 'test' I get the following error message:   Could not establish a connection to the database.  If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider. After the scouring the 'net for literally tens of hours, I've found several forums that I thought would help, such as; * Re-installing SQL Server and copying the .exe file to the desktop to get the SQL Server to be able to be installed properly (which I've done and it seemed to install successfully), BUT even after doing this I keep getting the error as underlined above & * Finding the aspnet_regsql file and installing it via it's wizard I've tried doing the above on both my 32-bit Windows XP laptop AND my 64-bit Windows 7 laptop - b

Can't connect my VWD express "sqldatasource" control to a SQL Server Express Database

Good day Sirs,   As the title is saying, I cant seem to connect to my SQL Server Express Database using "sqldatasource" control in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express Steps Taken: clicked "configure data Source" option in the Sqldatasource then "New Connection..." Changed my Data source: to " Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient) Here comes the problem: 1. I am choosing a Database file name but a problem keeps on popping:     "ServerName This file is in use: Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program" 2. Then I tried to choose a detached database file (mdf) and it was attached now another problem pops:    "ServerPath cannot be opened becuase it is version 661. This server supports 655 and earlier.   I am using windows Home Edition: does it contribute to my problem? Cannot connect to Sql server 2005 database engine

Hello everybody!

I am having problems to connect to Sql Server Database Engine. I have recently(yesterday) installed Sql Server 2005 Developer Edition. The installation was totally successfull. Yesterday I was able to connect to Sql Server Database engine via SSMS but today it gives me an error:

A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=233&LinkId=20476

It is strange because only one day before It worked fine.

Thanks a lot

Can't connect to local database file .mdf using SQL Server Authentication?

Using  - Visual Studio 2005 Professional, SQL Server 2005 Express, WinForms App

Problem - I am unable to connect to SQL Server local Database file (.mdf) through  SQL Server Authentication.

Description -

I am addding a SQL Database file (local) in the c# winapp solution by right-click -> add new item -> SQL database file.

It adds the file, starts a wizard to create datasets and tableAdapters. Dataset files (.xsd) are created in solution. In the Data Connection pane along ToolBox we can see Database1.mdf.

When i right click on databse1.mdf -> Modify Connection.

It shows a form with Test Connection option. The connection gets tested for Windows Auth. But for SQL Server Auth it shows following error message -

When User Instance = True

Error 1 "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated sonnection can generate a user instance. The connection will be closed"

When i set User Instance = False it shows this message -

Error 2 "An Attemp to attach an auto-named database for file C:\Doc&Sett\Admin\MyDocs\VS2005\Projects\SamApp\SamApp\Database1.mdf failed. A database with the same name

Adding an SP 2010 server to an existing farm. "Failed to connect to the configuration database." dur

I have an existing sp 2010 enterprise server hosting websites and central administration.  I have a seperate sql 2008 r2 server holding the databases.  My goal is to setup another sp 2010 enterprise server to provide redundancy for the websites and central admin.  I believe I am able to accomplish this by adding another web front end to the farm.  On the second server, I install sp 2010, run the config wizard and connect to the config database located on the sql server, however, I am interrupted at step 3 when I am notified of the following:

Failed to connect to the configuration database.
An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown.  Additional exception information: There was an error encrypting or decrypting credentials. Either a credential update is currently being performed, or you must update the farm account credentials on this server before you can perform this task.

Unable to connect to SQL Server Database

Hi All,

I actually tried all of posted, at least over here, regarding installing Service Level Dashboard V2 on a WSS 3.0 stand-alone server, which I would use with SCOM 2007 R2, and all didn't work; I tried stopping the "Server 2005 Embedded Edition (MICROSOFT##SSEE)" and set it manual, didn't work.

Like others, I installed all pre-reqs before WSS 3.0, fine, no issues until running the ServiceLevelDashboard_x86.msi. I checked permission pertaining to the account used to run and connect to the Operations Manager Data Warehouse Server, local admin. The weird thing is I used the same steps that had been used to set these up on a testingserver, which was running fine. Now that we need to set these up on a production server. But those steps wouldn't work any more?!

Any helps, hints, lessons are really appreciated

Here I go again. Unable to connect to SQL Server database.

I just recently decided to uninstall SQL Server 2008 Express Edition in favor of installing SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition. Now I can't access the "security.aspx" page via the ASP.NET Configuration icon. Clicking it yields the following error. "Unable to connect to SQL Server database."  My guess is that the account that Visual Web Developer Express 2008 edition is launching to "attempt" to create the default ASPNETDB.MDF file in the App_Data folder does not have sufficient permissions to execute the command through the local SQL Server instance.

This is one of the most frustrating issues I have ever had to deal with.  I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes when I click on that "ASP.NET Configuration" icon because of the incredibly abstract error messages that Microsoft likes to dole out. It would be nice of Microsoft to tell me the exact name of the account that SQL Server is refusing. That would be kind of them. Maybe in a future version? Anyone who can explain the relationships to me between

1)Visual Web Developer Express Edition 2008

2)IIS Manager 7.0 and

3)SQL Server Express Edition

My questions:

What is the name of the user account that Visual Web Developer uses to try and create the ASPNETDB.MDF file in the App_Data folder of

Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 R2 Database without being admin of the machine

I am receiving the following error when I try to connect to my new SQL Server 2008 R2 machine:

Msg 18452, Level 14, State 1, Server <server name>, Line 1 Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication.

I'm running the following command to test the connection:

sqlcmd -S<Server Name> -E -Q"Select @@servername"

On the server I'm getting the following from the SQL Server logs

03/31/2011 20:31:58,Logon,Unknown,Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. [CLIENT:]

03/31/2011 20:31:58,Logon,Unknown,Error: 18452<c/> Severity: 14<c/> State: 1.

03/31/2011 20:31:58,Logon,Unknown,SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT:]

03/31/2011 20:31:58,Logon,Unknown,Error: 17806<c/> Severity: 20<c/> State: 2.

What is odd is if I put the domain user in as Admin of the machine then it connects just fine.  I have tried just about everything I can find and I just cannot get it to work. Anyone have any clues???

Not possible to connect to SQL Server CE 3.5 SP2 database from Windows 7 64bit SP1

I have an add-in (.dll), build in VB 2008 express, with a connection to an .sdf file.

I have installed SQL Server CE 3.5 SP2. The connection to the database works fine on my 32bit system (Windows XP). At work I have installed the same on my 64bit Windows 7 system (incl. the 64bit SSCE) and it works fine too.

Now my problem: I have installed the same on another computer with Windows 7 64 bit and the connection fails!

The difference between the both computers that I've found is that the computer that gives problems has windows 7 with SP1 and framework 4 is installed.

Who knows how I can solve this problem?
