Alternative to deprecated xp_readmail in MSSQL

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have inherited an MSSQL2000 application that uses xp_findnextmsg & xp_readmail to extract stuff from emails & insert it into the db.   It will need to be upgraded sometime soon, either to 2005 or perhaps 2008:  However, I note that both xp_findnextmsg & xp_readmail are deprecated, & that Database Mail is apparently for sending only, not for reading.  Have I got this wrong?   This would not appear to be a unique need.  Any clues gratefully received.   regards, Ian

Is master page a best alternative for Frame Sets ??

My webpage has one banner with a logo, a vertical menu bar on the left side of the page and a footer . I have 5 other pages which should get loaded when the user select them from the menu bar. what my concern is actually the banner,  menu bar  and the footer should not change when the requested page loads. This definitely can be handled by sets. But I want to know whether there are any other alternatives for frame sets or could master page be helpful for this purpose ?????

Any help would be appreciative .

MSSQL 2008 R2: Change Server Collation Steps, with user DBs already of desired collation

On the default instance of SQL Server 2008 R2, I want to change the server collation from the usual US default SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS to an application vendor's required collation, Latin1_General_BIN.  I understand that changing the server collation is essentially the same as changing the collation of databases master and model -- is that a fair statement? But my main question is, since there are user databases on the server that I would like to preserve, can I not simply detatch the user DBs prior to performing the server collation change, and then reattach?  The database collation of the user databases is already set to Latin1_General_BIN.  This article, Setting and Changing the Server Collation, at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179254.aspx says that to preserve the user databases, I should script all DB objects out, and bulk-copy all data out, because the DBs will have to be recreated and repopulated.  Can someone explain why I ought not simply detach and reattach the user DBs, given that they are already of the desired collation (i.e., the same collation that I will be changing the server collation to)? Your help much appreciated. -Tom

MSSQL CE 3.5 SP2 Private Deployment

I use Visual C# express 2008 for my development.  I use MSSQL CE3.5 SP1 and have deployed this will my application for over a year as a private deployment (just included all the DLLs in my project).  This has worked well and kept me from being dependent on the product deployments.  I am running into an issue with the application deploying on Windows 7 64-bit home edition.  From my readings it seems that I need to upgrade to the MSSQL CE 3.5 SP2 but the indication is that I need to deploy 32-bit and the 64-bit SP2 for the 64-bit environements.  Since my development environment is on Windows XP I have not found a way to obtain the 64-bit version of the DLLs to include in my project as a private deployment.  Can I do this?  Is there a better way?  Where can I get the 64-bit DLLs. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.David Allen

HELP with SQL MAIL, a deprecated feature of SQL

I understand that SQL MAIL is a deprecated feature of SQL, thru SQL 2008r2.  However, I am despirate to continue using the READ and DELETE funcationality as long as I can.  Anyway... I am running SQL 2005 (build # 9.0.4262).  I am connecting to a company Exchange account via the SQL MAIL / MAPI system procedures. I am very sure my code is good, as it runs on three different SQL installations, every 10 minutes.  I eliminate 'auto reply', 'user replies', etc. from my three different account inboxes, and therefore keep those inboxes very clean. I am unable to get the process "xp_findnextmsg" to return a message-ID for any messages with "Undeliverable:" in the subject line.  I did send one 'TEST' email (from my account) into the account inbox and "xp_findnextmsg" does return a message-ID for that one.  My research indicates that the "Undeliverable:" replies from Exchange servers may have special headers. Has anyone else encountered this issue, and/or a solution? I have accumulated over 600 "Undeliverable" messages in my inbox, as my MS Report Server 2005 uses this account for Subscriptions.  I would love to read the Subject and first 'x' characters of Body into a SQL table, so I can build SSRS reports back out to report/subscription owners.

any alternative for join tables?

Hi guys, is  there any alternative for joining tables in ado.net? The problem is i have 2 tables: Transaction pkTransactionID TransactionDate FKTransactionCategory : refers to PKCAtegoryID   Category PKCAtegoryID CategoryName   I need to show a joined information from 2 tables in a gridview and be able to update data in tables. I can join them using linq to entity and show them in gridview. But i need to handle update and insert by myself then. Is there any way to make mapping so i can handle the data in those 2 tables as one table and bind it to bindingsource? Thanks in advance.

Extended stored procs on 64 bit MSSQL 2008

We need to develop some extended stored procedures for 64-bit SQL Server 2008. We have written the DLL in Visual C++ but when we try to register it with the database, we see the following error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not load the DLL c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\xp_test.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: 193(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105).(42000,17750) Procedure(xp_test) Can anyone please tell me if you have come across such an issue and how it was successfully resolved?

COM Interop , OleAutomation and the deprecated IDispatchImpl attribute...

Hi all, At my work, we have «deeply connected » COM libraries written in the good old days of VB6. Those components can be indifferently called from other components, ASP pages or VBScripts. We want to progressively migrate those components in C# using COM interoperability. After doing some tests, I came upon some “weird” interop behaviors... I’ve managed to make some rather simple examples of my problems; here it goes…   The Tests For our migration scenario, let’s take 4 classes in 4 distinct VB6 libraries each containing a single class. Here’s the dependency graph of the libraries:   Now the call graph of two very simple tests: In the first test, an ASP/VBScript instantiates a DataClass then passes it on to the method ClassB::RunBC , which in turns instantiates and calls a ClassC::CalledByB passing the reference to the DataClass along. The 2nd test is modeled after the first one: ClassC::RunCD calls ClassD::CalledByC still passing a reference to third party object DataClass .   In other words, the ClassC can be called from either VB6 or ASP/VBScript. After compilation of all the projects, here’s the output of the test script:   Now let’s try to migrate LibraryC in C#... Before starting to write anything in C#, we first need to generate interop assemblies for both LibraryA and LibraryD (which

data contract code generation for large/complex schema (HR-XML/OAGIS) - is there an alternative?

Hello, and thank you for reading.I am implementing a Service based on a predefined specification (HR-XML 3.0). As such, I am starting with the schema, and working my way back to code. There are a number of large Schema documents (which import yet more Schema documents) related to my implementation, provided by this specification.I am able to generate code using xsd.exe, by supplying the "main" and "supporting" xsd files as arguments. But there are several issues, and I am wondering if this is the right approach.- there are litterally hundreds of classes - the code file is half a meg in size- duplicate classes (ex. Type, Type1 - which both represent the same type)- there are classes declared as inheriting from a base class, but that base class is not generated/definedI understand that there are limitations to the types of Schema supported by svcutil.exe/xsd.exe when targeting the DataContractSerializer and even XmlSerializer. My question is two-fold:1. Are code generation "issues" fairly common when dealing with larger, modular xsd files? Has anyone had success with generating data contracts from OAGIS or HR-XML schema?2. Given the above issues, are there better approaches to this task, avoiding generating code and working with concrete objects? Does it make better sence to read and compose a SOAP message directly, while sti

VS 2010 MSSql 2008, ASP.net and Win 7

What is all the confusion about this combination of software?  Thsi appears to be the latest versions and one would think that it would also be the most up to date versions to use with the latest OS.  But I cannot find out where to learn how to use the tools because there does not appear to be any lessons oor tutorials free or paid that provide the latest releases of these tools.  I cannot get a demonstration of installation or a how to use that matches what I have on my system.  This just does not make any sense for this to be this obtuse.  I started out trying to learn ASP.NET and I have found myself in a quaqmire of installation issues operation issues,  warinings etc and yet no definitive tool for learining how to use the latest versions.  Can some one tell me where to go I do not mind paying for a tutorial or course that will get me aquainted with the technology.  AS it is I become more confused at each corner.  I can see  why many people just go with PHP and MYSQL with WAMP SERVER or XAMP.  This is border line ridiculous is this the future of this " powerful technology"?Hoping for the best, MIKE E

Easy install package vs MsSQL server 2008

Is there anything i wont be able to do if i use SQL Server Express Database from the downlod install package offered on asp.net? Ive used MSSQL server 2008 and 2005, but to be honest i think it might be overkill cause im not very familiar with those applications. I just need the database for creating websites. Will i be able to remote connect to my webbhotel host and remotely modify the database on the remote server? Now i have a mess, i have installed both MsSQL 2005 and 2008 and im not even sure wich database is created with what. I would love to just have one simple setup, but im not sure if i can manage to migrate the databases to the new computer with this easy install package. The easy install package contains: ASP.NET and ASP.NET MVC Visual Studio 2010 Express Development Tool SQL Server Express DatabaseThanks for your time!
