Other group with VisualTotals and dynamic dimension

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I All, I’m trying to create a query that dynamically display a dimension attribute on rows. I want display only first N member of that dimension attribute and aggregate the others in ‘Others’ member   (this query should be used in Reportig services and data displayed in both Crosstab and Pie Chart). So I’ve 2 parameters:   @TopN: Value: 5 @RowDimension:  Value: [Product].[Subcategory]   And the code look like this:   WITH SET [DynamicDimension] as strtoSet(@RowDimension + '.MEMBERS') MEMBER [Measures].[RowCaption] as strtoMember(@RowDimension).MEMBER_CAPTION   SET [TopItem] as TopCount(DynamicDimension,@TopN,[Measures].[Order Count]) SET [BottomItem] as {[DynamicDimension]} - {[TopItem]}   MEMBER [Product].[Subcategory].[Other ] as aggregate(BottomItem)   SELECT {[Measures].[Order Count]} ON COLUMNS , Non Empty {      [TopItem] ,[Product].[Subcategory].[Other]     } ON ROWS FROM [Adventure Works]   Unfortunately this solution doesn’t work when I change the value of parameter @RowDimension (ex with [Customer].[Customer Name]). This is because calculated member “ [Product].[Subcategory].[Other]” is related to Product dimension and is not possible parametrize the name of a member. Any suggestions?   The alternative solution that I&r

Dynamic Dimension with Aggregate Values

Hi, I have an specific requirement to make the measure value as an dimension. Let me explain my problem in brief. I have a fact table with dimensions like Time, Products etc and having single fact table with two measures. I have to create a calculated measure which shows the average of Measure 1 (here used calculated measure because there are couple of other calculations involved). And other two calculated measures. when I drill down with Products dimension for Calculate measure 1, it shows the average value for each products. Now, I want this calculated measure values (includes Product dimesnion drill down) as a Dimension and based on this value, I need to show the value of other two measures. For example: when the dimension products is used for drill down the values displayed will be like this and in this I need CM1 to be another dimension Products CM1 CM2 CM3 P1 0.10% 20 1 P2 0.20% 40 2 P3 0.30% 80 3 P4 0.40% 70 4 P5 0.50% 30 5 P6 0.60% 110 6 P7 0.70% 120 7 P8 0.80% 130 8 P9 0.90% 86 9 P10 1.00% 65 10 when CM1 is used as a dimension it should show the value like this CM1 CM2 CM3 0.10% 20 1 0.20% 40 2 0.30% 80 3 0.40% 70 4 0.50% 30 5 0.60% 110 6 0.70% 120 7 0.80% 130 8 0.90% 86 9 1.00% 65 10 How can we create the dynamic dimension with the aggregated values? Any assistance will be greatly apprec

how to process just one partition along with other measure group and dimension in SSIS package Analy

HI All, i have to process just one partition1  of measure group A ,along with this i suppose to process all the Measure group and dimension with the help of SSIS Package Analysis Services Processing task. Partition1 having a query which fetch data only for previous day only. what i have done i select partition 1 in process data mode,all other measure group in full mode and dimension in process update mode.   i haven't taken measure group of partition1 and also not taken cube in the processing list ,when i run the package ,it runs suceesfully but data not get uplaoded into the Cube.   kindly suggest what other measures should i take to update the data . Creating Dynamic Group Fields for a Crystal Report?

I have a VB.Net application which generates quite a few Crystal Reports. One report in particular has a Group Section. What I am trying to do with my VB.Net app is pass a value (a sql server column name used in the report). This value is represented by radio buttons. For example, the user may check either "ZipCode" or "State" or "Category" or "Type" or "Vendor". Each of these options represent a column in the database table used in the report. I simply want to be able to write the "SelectionFormula" using one of these options but not sure how to go about it. Thanks, Blake

Dynamic columns on row group page

Hi, I have a SSRS (2008 R2) report on an Olap data source. On rows I have Agents (as a row group), on columns I have Stores (as a column group) and a measure, let's say SeelOutValue. I want to see sales from agents to stores. I added a page break between each group instance on the Agent row group => one page for an Agent, but the column stores are not filtered by the Agent. I want to see on an Agent page only the stores with values. My question: can I filter the columns (Stores column group) for each Agent (row group)?  Example Dataset:             Store1 Store2 Store3 Store4 Store5  Agent1     1                   1                    1     Agent2     2         2 Agent 3  .... Now an each Agent page there are all 5 stores columns (on Agent1 page column Store2 and Store4 without data). It is possible to see on Agent1 page only Store1, Store3 and Store5 columns, on Agent2 page Store1 and Store2 columns ... ?   Thanks in advance for your help!

Dynamic dimension member filter

Is it possible to set a dimension data rule for a role that will filter dimension members dynamically such that only members relating to at least one fact record will be shown?   In particular, the rule should be applied after all other filters on the fact data for the user have been taken into account.

This situation is there is a single client dimension but users should not be able to see the client information (e.g. name, address) unless it is related to a fact that the user has access to.

Dynamic Column headers changes according group level

Hello all,

I have a report with few grouping levels. by default few of the group levels are visible, while for a detailed report either specific group need to be collapsed, or detailed report option to be chosen.

Since in the group summary line I have few statistics, I want the report column header/names to be changed dynamically. I have used expression in header so it will change dynamically when a user wish to see the detailed or summary report using:

=IIf(Parameters!P_Detailed_Report.Value="Y","Detailed column header ","Summary column Header")

But the above won't work off course when the user actively collapses a group.

Can I have the header text to change when a certain group is collapsed by user ?

MVC Binding to dynamic checkbox group

I'm not sure of how the view binds to dynamic checkbox group...I'm having problems posting values back to controller.

public class CheckboxInfo
    #region Private Fields

    private string _text;
    private string _value;
    private bool _ischecked;

    #region Public Properties

    public CheckboxInfo()
    public CheckboxInfo(string text, string value, bool ischecked)
        _text = text;
        _value = value;
        _ischecked = ischecked;

    public string Text
        get { return _text; }
        set { _text = value; }
    public string Value
        get { return _value; }
        set { _value = value; }

    public bool IsChecked
        get { return _ischecked; }
        set { _ischecked = value; }

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using MVCWebAppStage2.NorthwindServices;
using System.Web.Mvc;

public class CustomerViewData

    private List<CheckboxInfo> _countryCheckboxes = new List<CheckboxInfo>();
    private IEnumerable<Customer> _customerList = new List<Customer>();

    public List<CheckboxInfo> CountryCheckboxes
        get { return _countryCheck

Dynamic Headers using an SSAS Parent Child Dimension

 We are trying to build some finanical reports (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, etc) in reporting services using Analysis Services as a data source.  The problem we are running into is more of a formatting issue around the use of custom headers.  We want to have the ability to do the following:

Interest Income (as a header)

Funds sold

Total Interest Income (rollup of children above)

Interest Expense (as a header)

Total Interest Expense (rollup of children above)

Provision for loan losses (single line item, no group needed)

Getting the parent to appear after the child is pretty simple by using the hierarchize function.  The problem is getting the parent as a header to appear.  The crux is that we only want to use certain levels (not every single level) in the parent child hierarchy for doing a header. For example, above, Interest Income and Interest Expese would have a header, whereas Provision for loan losses would not.

This is pretty common formatting features for financial reports, plus its very common to use a parent child for Chart of Accounts, thus somebody has had to have run into this in the past.

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

Dynamic Data Templates in GridView ASP.NET 3.5

At a high level, Dynamic Data Templates can be seen as a system to very quickly build up a User Interface linked with the relevant data model, immediately enabling you to perform CRUD operations (Create, Read, Update, Delete) on the database using the specified data source. They provide a powerful method for building up these kinds of applications, and I'm going to focus on an overview of what Dynamic Data Templates actually are, and a few ways of customizing them to suit industry needs.

ASP.NET 4.0 Dynamic Data and Many to Many Entity Framework Entities

I did not play much with Dynamic Data controls in VS2008 and just made a cool discovery in VS2010 Beta 2. This may not even be new, but as I'm sitting 30,000+ feet over the Atlantic ocean, I don't have access to VS2008 at the moment to check.

Problem to group radio button across gridview rows

In general no one can easily group or make a single selection from radio button list inside gridview rows. There are a lot of way to make a single or unique selection from list. Here i want to share how i can address this problem in the most easiest way. Googling the problem most of the cases i saw the grouping in horizontal way. Thats why i tried to group the radio buttons in vertical manner. Let i have a requirement like below:

Dynamic Systems Development Model (DSDM) Methodology

The Dynamic Systems Development Model was developed in the U.K. in the mid-1990s. It is the evolution of rapid application development (RAD) practices. DSDM boasts the best-supported training and documentation of any of the agile software development techniques, at least in Europe. DSDM favors the philosophy that nothing is built perfectly the first time and looks to software development as an exploratory endeavor.

Adding Dynamic Rows in GridView with TextBoxes

I decided to write this article because this has been asked so many times before at the forums(http://forums.asp.net) . Basically, this example shows on how to generate a Row in GridView with TextBoxes when clicking a Button that is residing inside a GridView Footer.

What is the difference between "dynamic" and "object" keywords?

Let's take a quick look at the object keyword first. I'm not going to talk a lot about it because it's been around since C# 1.0. This keyword is nothing more than a shortcut for System.Object, which is the root type in the C# class hierarchy. (However, as Eric Lippert pointed out in his blog post, not everything in C# derives from object.) This is a powerful mechanism, since you can assign almost any value to instances of this type.

Dynamic in C# 4.0: Introducing the ExpandoObject

You have probably already heard about the new dynamic feature in C# 4.0 and how it is used to support COM interop. If you haven't, I strongly recommend reading the following MSDN articles: Using Type dynamic and How to: Access Office Interop Objects by Using Visual C# 2010 Features.
