Occasional Errors loading SQL tables using MDX

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi, I have been asked to investigate an issue of error 7321 while executing MDX to populate SQL tables using openquery. The problem is most of the time this query runs fine but at times it fails with the error 7321 error. Since it runs most of the time, i guess syntax isn't a problem here. Yes, there are some With set statements; but we are using SQL 2008 and believe that issue was fixed in 2005 itself. Re-running the SP again however gives the desired results Currently we are extracting the first 2000 characters from the error message which starts as and that gives a truncated version of the query, so first we are trying to increase that so that we get to see the entire query that is being parsed when it fails. The last error message read as "An error occurred while preparing the query "MDX .... Any other pointers on how to approach this problem would be appreciated.

Delta loading on 400+ tables, pls help.

Previously, we IT team developed an ETL package to create and load tables that exist in source database(oracle) but not in target database(sql server). As it may come to your mind, in the ETL package we use ForeachLoop and Oracle's sysobject to generate 'create table..' scripts to build the tables in Sql server then use script task to load data into the tables which have different structure through bulkcopy. We did not perform delta loading. Just in a drop-create-load route. Now, a performance issue comes. It takes almost 30 hours to generate and load all these more than 400 tables. The number and data volume are increasing, so we have to think about delta loading. But how to do the delta maintenance on 400+ tables? please provide ideas.   Appreciate your help. Loading Dimension & Fact tables

Hello Experts,

I am new to SSAS & I need to load Dim & Fact tables for a data warehouse. I've the basic idea to load them, but i dont have the exact picture to load a fact table. For eg. if we have 3 dimension tables like Dim_Time / Dim_Geography / Dim_Product and one Fact Table Fact_Product as described in most of the online examples. Then how to load them. I know for fact Tables we need to do aggregations. But how to apply those aggregations on what criteria.  In the said example if we need to load Fact_Product then we should be able to see sales by product, sales for a given point in time & sales for a given geographic location. Then how to do that. Do we need to apply aggregate for all the dimension tables

I know i am not much clear, but i hope you guys can understand. If not please let me know i will try to explain it more. Please clear my doubts.

Thanks & Regards,

Loading from multiple Access 2007 tables

I have a requirement that i have to load data from multiple access tables in a database with same structure into sql server table having same structure of source.

Please some one help.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Temporary Tables - MS SQL Server

Usage of temporary tables in MS SQL Server is more developer friendly and they are widely used in development. Local temporary tables are visible only in current session while global temporary tables are visible across all sessions.

Temporary tables in SQL Server vs. table variables

When writing T-SQL code, you often need a table in which to store data temporarily when it comes time to execute that code. You have four table options: normal tables, local temporary tables, global temporary tables and table variables. I'll discuss the differences between using temporary tables in SQL Server versus table variables.

JQGrid Loading deleted values

This is quite strange. here is the issue:

Some Info:

1. I'm using a multi-select jqgrid.

2. I have my own delete button to delete multiple orders

The problem:

When i press the delete button on the pager of my jqgrid, the records are deleted from the database but JqGrid shows some records (4-5). On refreshing the grid, correct numbers of records are shown.

Here is the code:

function delorder() {
        var amg = $("#horder").getGridParam('selarrrow');
        var cont = amg.length;
        if (amg.length > 0) {

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?

Using a trigger or anything else to populate two tables

Hi! I'm creating an application that's supposed to first add a record to table1, and then get the ID from that record to use when adding a record to table2, to be able to associate these two records with eachother.

The user gets to type in some values that goes to table1, and some values that goes to table2, but before the insert statement for table2 is executed i need the ID from the recently added record in table1. Some dude told me to use a trigger for the autopopulate purpose, but does that really work when i also need to save some values that's user input, and when those values doesn't get saved in table1?

Are there any other way to do this or can i send values to a trigger? I'm new to triggers and stored procedures, i don't have any particular knowledge of this, any help is appreciated!

SqlDataSource UpdateCommand using 2 tables

I have two tables

Trans  with fields TransID, Date, CustomerID and some other stuff

Customer with fields CustomerID, Name, TaxId

On the screen the user only sees the fields Date and Customer Name. CustomerID is behind the scenes only.

I'm using SqlDataSource. Having no problems with SelectCommand. I don't know how to construct the UpdateCommand and InsertCommand.

Let's say the user changes the date, then I need to do an UPDATE.

UPDATE Trans SET Date = @Date, CustomerID = @CustomerID results in an error message and the record is not updated.

I get an error on the page that says "Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Input string was not in correct format".

I tried taking out the set for CustomerID and I still get the error on page.

Also, for inserting, the users will see a dropdownlist with Customer Names. I need to convert that to a CustomerID to be used in the new record being inserted in the database. I'm not sure how to do this.

Do I need to do something with Control Parameters?

Word Automation - Multiple DCOM Errors/Behavior

Before I get started, I already know that Microsoft does not support and highly discourages server-based MS Office automation.  I've read a multitude of posts and smarmy "*wink*, here's a link" replies, so I'm looking for actual help here, not condescending reprimands.

That notwithstanding, here is my problem.  I have developed a simple method that will open a local Word document, modify some header information, and then save the document as a new file.  As expected, it works great as a console/windows app, but as soon as I went to ASP.NET, DCOM jacked my world up when accessing the app remotely from a different domain account (that has access to the ASP.NET app.  For reference, my method is shown below:

1 public static string ModifyAndSaveBuildDocument(string localFilePath, BuildDocumentType docType, string buildNumber, DateTime buildDate, string projectName)
2            {
3                try
4                {
5                    ProjectConfiguration config = (ProjectConfiguration)ConfigurationManager.GetSection("ProjectConfiguration");

How to display related tables in one crystal report and how to link this report with combobox?

Hi! I want to display a crystal report in my vb.net application. Suppose I have tables named student details, student marks, student address, etc... Now if I want to display all these details (fields of all tables) in one crystal report (with page breaks if necessary) then how will I achieve it. I will be providing a combo box in my application that contains list of student names. How can I link this combo box with the cystal report to dynamically display report for different student on selected index change of combo box? Help me friends. An example would be appreciable.

On page loading or executing all CSS flags are ignored and website is plain without formatting

 My problem is whenever i execute my app the first page that loads is the login page pointed to by my web.config file forms authentication, this page is meant to show CSS formatting for the info i am displaying but it is not. Any help with this problem would be great. A cut and paste of my problem is shown below as you can see there is no CSS.
