I followed this below procedure for create a DataSource View In Solution Explorer, right-click Data Source Views, and then click New Data Source View. On the Welcome to the Data Source View Wizard page, click Next. The Select a Data Source page appears. Under Relational data sources, the Adventure Works DW data source is selected. Click Next. On the Select Tables and Views page, you select tables and views from the list of objects that are available from the selected data source. You can filter this list to help you in selecting tables and views. ( My probelm comes in 4th step, I see my server name in Relational Data sources area, i click next to select Tables & Views but i dont see any list of tables in there..? What am i Missing? Today is my day one on SSAS...please HELP FM

Data Source View Gives incorrect Error--Different Data Type

Hi, I'm creating a report model (2008 R2).  I am trying to create a relationship between two tables.  One FKs to another--same name and type (tinyint) columns.  But the Data Source View editor doesn't allow this, giving the message "...source and destination column have different data types".  But the columns are the same types.  I ahd this once before  acouple of years ago and don't remember how I got around it. Does anyong have ideas?

Data view web part: Change Data Source

I have a data view web part that I would like to use multiple time in the same page, but tied to different sharepoint lists.  Is there an efficient way to do this?

I can add additional data sources, but I don't see how I can remove the original.

problem with sql data source - view with INNER JOIN

I have a question. I created a new data source (sql database connection) - a view that contains INNER JOIN statement. After that I created a page and put Edit Item Form on it based on this data source. When I open a page and try to update some records I get an error: "The data source control failed to execute the update command."

There is no error when I use a view without INNER JOIN...

Can I solve it? Should I write my own UPDATE statement?

Thank you.

Data View Web Part, update to Data Source / adding new list to existing data source

Hi all,

I have four Lists with identical columns :

List 1
List 2
List 3
List 4

I had to merge them, hence i created a data source ( Linked Source ) and merged these lists in SPD. I have used a data view webpart to display some columns from the merged lists data source and everything was working fine.

But now i have a new List : List 5 which also has the same columns like the other four lists and i need to update the data soure such that it is merged list of 5 lists not 4.

i updated the datasource property of the linked source to merge this new list as well. However the contents of List 5 dont appear in the data view webpart.

Am i missing something here ?

I dont want recreate the data view web part from scratch eachtime , because in future there might be List 6 , List 7 as well ...

Refresh data source view gets 'column' argument cannot be null

When I try to refresh a data source view in SQL Server 2008 BIDS, I get the error: System.Data   'column' argument cannot be null.  Parameter name: column.   How to resolve this?  The underlying tables have no data yet.

Change data source view for dimension

Is it possible to change the data source view the dimension gets the table definition from?

Basically I would like to restructure the ds views and dimensions I created earlier are reading from ds views that are no longer appropriate.   Tables would be exactly the same.

Getting error while creating Data Source View in SSAS 2008

Getting below error while creating data source view from wizard in SSAS 2008, at the time of clicking "Finish" button. However, created data source successfully.

TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio

The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)

Why shouldn't I snowflake a date dimension to a table in my data source view that's not a fact?

This is quite difficult for me to communicate so please bear with me.

I have created my data source view in my solution. I have a central fact table surrounded by the dimensions. Several of the dimensions have dates which I converted to integers. Thinking that I would need separate date dimension tables so the date integers could find their dates I created a data dimension table "snowflaked" to the dimensions with dates.

An example is my dimPolicy table has dates of creation and ending.

I converted these to integers.

A table called dimPolicycalendar was made in the DSV and then linked. A dimension snowflaked to a dimension.

When I went to create a dimension for Policy it auto attached the dimPolicyCalendar. Then all my dates disappeared. And the generic values in the dimPolicyCalendar appeared.

How do I get my values back?

If I wasn't supposed to add a calendar table to the dimension how will I convert those integer values to the date values I want?

I am panicking a little because I can not find any helpful resources.

You are my last hope before we are pushed to an Oracle solution. Yuck!

Empty Website Data Source windown

Hi all,

I am Visual Web Developer user and facing a problem when I am creating a local report (.rdlc) file.

I am using Business objects as the Data Source for this report. It was working perfectly until all the items in the Website Data Source window suddenly "disappeared". The "Add New Data Source" button on this window is also disabled. Now the window is just like a blank box only. And I can't continue working with the report file like this...

I have tried undoing what I did before but it does not help at all...

Any reason for this to happen? There is no sign or something at least indicating what is wrong.

Please help.

ps: found a similar thread in this forum but not solved

Disable filtering on a Dynamic Data list view.

I have an entity set of NotificationTemplates, and each one of these has a collection of zero-many SmsTemplate entities. When editing or viewing a NotificationTemplate, I have a link to View SMS Templates. That link takes me to a List view for the SmsTemplates entity set, filtered for the NotificationTemplate I was viewing.

How can I prevent the user changing this filter to show SmsTemplates for another NotificationTemplate? That is, I want the filter, but it must be read only. The drop-down just mustn't drop down, it must just display the name of the NotificationTemplate that these SmsTemplates belong to. To view SmsTemplates for another NotificationTemplate, the user must click View SMS Templates from that other template.

This was originally asked by myself on SatckOverflow at: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3514373/disable-filtering-on-a-dynamic-data-list-view

show data in grid view error Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow.

one more intersting think is when i try to display 6 column then grid show there data an no more error occures.

when i run my project this error occures in grid view

Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow.

Entity Data Model and database view returning the same columns as there are in a table

When adding a stored procedure into the Entity Data Model I can select whether the procedure returns a scalar, a (new) complex type or one of the entity types I already defined.

How do I do something similar for a view?

I mean assuming I have a view like this

CREATE VIEW FilteredFoos as SELECT Foo.* FROM Foo join ... WHERE ...

(that is a view that implements some involved filtering, but returns all columns from one table) how do I add it to the project so that I can use the entity set, but get the Foo objects, not some new FilteredFoo objects.

var foos = myDB.FilteredFoos.Include("Bar").ToList();

foreach (Foo foo in foos) { ...

Thanks, Jenda

The report cannot be opened because the data source associated with it is not a report model.

i tried to open a report i created in sql business intelligence development studio in the report builder in wss3 and it gave me this error:

Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportBuilder.ReportModel.Report: The report 'http://servername:port#/Reports/report.rdl' cannot be opened because the data source 'http://servername:port#/DataSource Library/datasource.rsds' associated with it is not a report model.

This report was not created in Report Builder. Try opening this report in Report Designer instead.

can i fix this so i can open my reports in report builder?
