Excel 2007 Pivot table OLAP- SSAS 2008 Error

Hi, I do have a strange issue with Excel 2007 pivot table report; the data source is SSAS 2008 cube. When refresh the excel 2007 report data using the 'Refresh All' or 'Refresh' button available under the Data menu, the below error is thrown. "The expression contains a function that cannot operate on a set with more than 4,294,967,296 tuples." After some analysis, the report works well on the below workaround, 1. Remove all the calculated measures from report (3 measures in this scenario) 2. Remove one row label (dimension attribute) from report But the measures, attributes are valid one from cube and it is required fields in the report. So, understand that removing few items is not at all a solution. The below workaround also works. 1. Check the 'Defer Layout Update' option from the Pivot Table Field List window. 2. Click on the Update button After that Unchecked the 'Defer Layout Update' option and apply the filter, etc in the report. The report works very well. But every time, we need to use the above work around after open the excel report. I have NO clue on this issue. Please help to resolve this issue. Thanks, Jey

SSRS 2008 - Fixed headers while scrolling - works fine for Matrix - but not for Table??!!

Hi

I have this feature working fine for matrix, but it does not work as expected for Table (Tablix).

I tried all over, and setting both check boxes in the 'Tablix Properties' dialog page 'Repeat header rows on each page' and 'Header should remain visible while scrolling' for both row header and column header, but none of it is working. Am I missing something?

In the properties table (F4) for text box of tablix, under 'Other' there is 'RepeatWith' - none / tablix: what is this used for? I tried this property also but I cannot get the headers fixed / visible while scrolling. I cannot get the 'column headers' repeat on each page of the report. Very frustrating...

Does anyone face similar issue? Can anyone help please? Do I need any update / download any fix? For now I have the following version installed for Visual Studio 2k8:
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Designers Version 10.0.1600.22

Thanks

SSAS 2008 R2 Cube being queried by Excel 2010 Pivot Table - 60x slower than with Excel 2003!

SQLServer 2008 R2

Excel 2010 x64

Hi All,

I have a fairly complex Excel report where a raw data sheet is updated from 10 or so PivotTables pulling from an Analysis Services Cube, (2008 R2), with a VBA script that refreshes all pivottables, and then does some post-processing, formatting etc.

This was originally developed in Excel 2003, and the updating of all the pivot tables ran in under 10 seconds

I've now recreated in Excel 2010 and *each table* is taking up to a minute to refresh!

I've also observed that I can get the refresh time of a single table back down to 1sec, if I delete all other pivottables from the worksheet/book.

Its deeply frustrating, as I'm touting 2010 as being the way for our business to go...it won't help the cause if I deliver something with a x60 increase in runtime!

I've run traces of both the 2003 and 2010 versions executing against the SQL Server, the only thing I can see is that the 2003 version passes 1 single MDX query, whilst the 2010 version appears to be firing it in sections.

I've posted this in the Excel forum too.

Please can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Nikki

Trouble Using More Than One LIKE Operator in a Table Filter in SSRS 2008

Hello All,

I'm having what I'm hoping will be a simple issue -

My co-worker has created a large report which contains several tables in SSRS 2008.  Each table is tied to one dataset, yet only certain data can be returned to each respective table.  Right now he's applying filters at the table-level behind each table, however as you can imagine this is not efficient because there is a LOT of data returning for this report.

I'll try and give a simplified example -

There are two tables in the report body - one for containing products relating to both Cats and Dogs, and one for containing products relating to Birds.   Each product starts with the name of the specific animal - for example "Cats-Mouse Toy", "Dogs-Frisbee", "Birds-Rubber_Leaf".

Now I need to somehow filter out each product so that they go to their proper tables.  As mentioned above, my co-worker was creating a specific filter for each product, but this is proving to be inefficient.  For example, there are 52 different products for Birds alone.  That would mean 52 different filter entries for each product.  What I would like to do is use the LIKE operator but i'm not getting the results I want on the first table.

So, on the first table I need something like:  =(Fields!Products.value LIKE &

Embedded HTML using
to replace tags in ssrs 2008

After doing various amounts of research and testing I need to post a question here.

I am using an html editor to format html and data (for reports) and then using reporting services to render the html harnessing the report server to view, export, and print.

As already many of you know around here you can set an ssrs table cell to “HTML – Interpret HTML tags as styles”.  Also many of you know that this functionality does not accept <table><tr><td></td></tr></table> tags.  However, the documentation says it support <div> tags. Yet when I try using div tags with the appropriate styles for creating tables this does not work either.  So if ssrs handles <div> tags could you please tell me a complete list of style attributes it handles as well?

SSRS 2008 how to define a custom legend and display colors of legend in table

Analysis Services 2008 e Excel pivot table: different filters for each column

Hello,

I have to create a report in excel 2010 based on a  analysis services 2008 cube.

I created a pivot table that contains four columns containing the elements of a hierarchy. My problem is that each column should be filtered with different values of the same field.

For example: given a hierarchy that describes me a set of products, I have to filter the product for customer  1 and 3, Product B for  customer 2 and the product C for the customer 3.

I think this thing is not possible in Excel (right?)

So I decided to use a mdx script to filter each product

I tried so (for example, product A):
scope (descendants([Products].[products].[liv0].&[A], 1, leaves));
[Measures].Quantity = sum({[Customer].[Code].&[01], [Customer].[Code].&[03]}, [Measures].quantity);
end scope;

I still get an error of infinite recursion. How can I solve my problem? Is there a better system than what I am following?

Edit Table in SSRS 2008

Hi Experts,

We were having table with just ONE DATA COLUMN ( it means no Header and nor Footer), and we were having two row groups on this table.

Now our user's request to some "Total" at the bottom, and I'm trying to edit the table were I can add Table Footer but I'm unable to do the same, Can anybody out to do?

Even I tried by "Insert Row" -> Outside Group - Below but it is still inserting as a "Group level footer" rather I want as a Table level footer.

Long question short, how to edit table to add Table Header or Footer.

Regards,

Kumar

SQL 2008 Pivot using vertical and hortizonal format table

Hi

I have 2 tables, where one holds Name and address information in a wide format, second table is a deep version where i have the records with field names (i.e. Date Of Birth) in the value and then another field with the actual value.

I need to merge both tables together to create a new 3rd table and have everything in a wide format, so name and address for one record plus another new column with Date of Birth, so in the end i would just have one row for a person.

i am using sql 2008, i have a very large dataset so need something generic and fast as there are lots of different field names so i would need to add this to the new table as well. The number of fields is not consistent, so need to create this dynamicaly, I also need to run in small batches as the selection causes space issues.

declare @fieldNames varchar(max)
set @fieldNames = stuff((select distinct ',' + incomingfieldName from tmp_other for xml path('')),1,1,'')
declare @sql nvarchar(max)

declare @BatchSize int, @MaxID int, @Iterations int, @I int
set @BatchSize = 10000 -- 1K records at once
select @MaxID = max(Purn) from Tmp_Rank -- get maximum number
set @Iterations = ceiling(@MaxID/@BatchSize) -- this will give us number of iterations to perform.
print 'MaxID: ' + convert(varchar(10),@MaxID) + ' Batch Size:

Under the Table: Programming with FileStreams in SQL Server 2008

There's always been disagreement about whether large blobs, such as document and multimedia items, should be stored in the database or file system. In SQL Server 2008 you don't have to choose; filestream storage provides the best of both approaches.

SSRS 2008 R2 and sharepoint 2007 report builder problems

I upgraded our enterprise sql server 2008 to sql server 2008 r2 last weekend.  Along with this i installed the report builder 3.0 on the servers as well and the updated ssrs add in for sharepoint.  The upgrade went fine, no errors that i could find.  The problem is now when i go to a library that has the report builder content type enabled and click report builder report under new it does not load report builder 3.0.

I updated the custom report builder url in central administration from /_vti_bin/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_2_0_0_0.application to /_vti_bin/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application

however when i do click the new report builder report it kicks me over to http://company.com/ReportServer_MossEnt  which itemizes out each individual sharepoint site in the farm.

Is the integration of ssrs 2008 r2, sharepoint 2007 and report builder 3.0 work?  did i install the wrong version of the report builder add in?  The above is the only problem i am having now.

all servers are server 2008, 64 bit and moss 2007 enterprise with sp2 & april 2010 cu

SQL 2008 servers and MOSS 2007 with SSRS

I need help figuring out the limitations in a multi-database server environment and MOSS 2007 installation with SSRS.  Here is the run down:

  • I currently have MOSS 2007 server with backend on SQL 2005, which also acts as the SSRS server.  In addition I have another SQL 2005 server where business data resides and against which most of the SSRS reports run.
  • Future plan (over which I don't really have a say) is MOSS 2007 with backend on SQL 2008, which will remain to be the SSRS server.  The second SQL server with business data will be migrated to SQL 2008 R2.

Questions: does this architecture requires SSRS 2008 add-in or SSRS 2008 R2 add-in (integrated mode)?  Will there be an issue of building SSRS 2008 reports that go after SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 data mix?
