moss 2007 for intranet ,publishing portal with collaboration portal subsite or other way.

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi All, We are planning to use moss 2007 for our intranet. Mainly we want to use it for collaboration purpose (i think collaboration portal is the appropriate template as root site). but in future if the company want publishing portal can i have it under collaboration portal or should i choose now itself the root site as publishing portal  and then create collaboration portal as sub site to meet our needs. can some one shed light on how to proceed and pros/ cons . Cheers, Friend.

Publishing Portal template versus Collaboration Portal template

I am looking to create a SharePoint intranet and am trying to determine which type of site collection template will serve us the best.  I understand that the Publishing Portal template only allows for the creation of publishing sites in its collection.

Does the Collaboration Portal allow for publishing sites to be built in its collection, or only collaboration sites?

I'm really find that we will need a variety of different types of sites in the collection which will define our intranet.

Any advice from those who have been there (and learned the hard way!) appreciated.

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

SharePoint: SharePoint Portal Server Makes Your Intranet More Manageable and Easier to Navigate

Most large organizations have mounds of disjointed information in a variety of formats spread out across an enterprise. To make the most efficient use of that information, it must be readily accessible, easy to identify, and simple to navigate. SharePoint Portal Server 2001 unifies information by allowing members of any organization to create, share, and publish documents from a single access point. This article covers the services in SPS that can help an organization improve workflow and information management.

Running multiple websites in Sharepoint 2007 with AX2009 Enterprise Portal

I need to setup two separate webshops with public access and different layouts using AX2009 Enterprise Portal.

However I am uncertain how to implement two completely different layouts/designs because the Sharepoint Templates are located inside the 12 hive and not seperate for each website.

Can anybody give me some hints on how to do this - and if so, which requirements I have to meet (VSS 3.0 or MOSS Standard / Enterprise) in order to do it.

I am speculating whether I need to setup two separate web-servers with each own Sharepoint installation (and Business Connector Proxy)

Thanks in advance

The URL is not valid error while publishing InfoPath form to MOSS 2007 server

Hi All,   When I try to publish the form onto a SharePoint Team site it throws the error: The following URL is not valid : http://tcs037288:6543/sites/projectmanagement   I have checked the comaptibility, trust and everything looks fine. Also, I tried to upload this template from Central Admin but there it is failing with browser-compatibility errors.       Regards,

Where did the Enterprise Collaboration portal template go?

Am I missing something? When creating a new site collection in SharePoint 2010, I can't seem to find the enterprise collaboration portal site template. I see the Publishing Portal template, but don't see the collaboration one.

Has the story changed here? Is the idea that we'll create collaboration intranet portals based on the team site template or that we should use the publishing enterprise template for intranet deployments now?

Publishing Portal Missing Team Site Template

I created a new site collection and set the root site as a publishing portal.  I then went into "manage site features" under "Site Actions" and activated the "Team Collaboration Lists" feature.  However I cannot find the "Team Site" template when I try to create a new site.  Is there a feature I'm missing?

move infopath forms from SP Portal Server 2003 to 2007

I am a newbie to SharePoint. Please let me know if I didn't explain my problem well...

We built the new SharePoint server 2007 on a different physcial box from the old server 2003. There are huge amount of InfoPath forms in form library on the old server. I was told that: to get these forms moved over to the new server 2007, we have to save the forms and re-publish to the new server one at a time. This will be really time consume and also loosing the attributes of the original forms, the date it was created and modified etc.

I would like to see if there is a way to move one form library at a time, and just copy the forms over; not publishing them again.

Many thanks!

Sharepoint 2010 publishing portal site deployment

Hello there,

I have a sharepoint 2010 site running on Publishing portal template. I have to deploy this site in client’s server. I am new in sharepoint so made some research on this and found saving the site as template and that will give a .wsp file and can deploy. But as I am using publishing portal ‘Save as template’ option is not coming under ‘site settings’. Could anyone please guide me for best way to deploy publishing portal site on another server. Unfortunately at this point of time I can’t change the site template from publishing portal to some other template, I am helpless.

Thanks in advance.

Publishing Portal navigation Headings don't display in Global Nav.

I am having a problem displaying a 'Heading' on the Global Navigation bar, that has been manually added to the 'Navigation Editing & Sorting' section of a publishing portal sub site.

If I create a new page in the sub site it automatically appears on the Global navigation bar however when I manually enter a Heading with or without a link underneath, it won't display at all. Sites and Pages all work, it's just Headings that won't display.

I am thinking it has something to do with the default masterpage and default navigation provider.

Hoping somebody knows a workaround without having to create my own masterpage of hack the default one with SharePoint designer.

Error upgrading MOSS 2007 publishing site to 2010 - Exception: Column 'PublishingStartDate' does n

We are running into an issue when we attach the database with the main portal site collection which has the publishing features enabled. In the upgrade error log, we are receiving the following errors:

SharePoint 2007 - Opening an office document in portal demands authentication

Hi there,

Environemnt:  SharePoint 2007, SQL Server 2005

In order to get into Intranet portal it is required to enter USERNAME, PASSWORD [WINDOWS AUTHENTICATION]. That has been working fine for few years.

Now when the office document is opened it demands authentication, requiring the end user to enter username and pasword again. Can this be reverted? Once the credentials are entered first time to get into Intranet portal it should allow office documents to be opened without demanding authentication?

To simplyfy I would like to avoid the second time authentication while opending office document from SharePoint portal.

Help is appreciated.

updating content type failed during publishing Infopath on MOSS 2007

Hi Folks,
I am new to MOSS & Infopath-2007. I want to publish form on MOSS onto Document Library not as Content Type. Last week, i published form successfully, but suddenly since last thursday, I am not able to publish - it gives me "updating content type failed" error. :(
I am publishing with Domain Trust, no certification is sign (actually, not required in my case).

Thereafter, I tried creating new template with single button/textbox, but it gives same error.
Today, i tried with blank form, it failed again with same error.

I tried creating Form library from Infopath form as well as from MOSS, but no help.
doing Googling, i only got 2 solution - timeout or too many columns added from infopath - but in my case there are only 3-4 columns i want to publish.

I tried below links, but no help:
