Search References multi-platform support is forward-compatible

Remember when I introduced you to the Search References extension? I know my fellow coworkers at Clarius are awesome and all, but I was happily surprised when after installing MonoDroid, the following just worked: See the "Filtered to: MonoDroid Profile"? See how the paths point to the right assemblies under MonoDroid reference assemblies? Kudos to the http://go-mono.com/monodroid/ team for integrating so nicely in the VS2010 environment! Support for using email addresses as User Ids in AD, and being compatible with BI tools, such as SSR

So we have an AD instance integrated with our BI environment. We have a requirement for external BI users to be allowed to use an email address as their user ID in AD. I understand that email addresses are suported in AD, but does the BI tool SharePoint 2007, SSRS and SSAS 2008 support user ID that arn't pre-windows 2000 user ids.

Our testing would indicate that email addresses are failing to be provisioned in SharePOint 2007 and SSAS 2008. Is this a configuration issue or really a limitation of the BI suite.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

"SharePoint Foundation Help Search" support Central admin running as HTTPS?

I'm getting the following error after enabling SSL on the SharePoint Central Admin web application each time the timer job runs every hour.  Does the "SharePoint Foundation Help Search" support Central admin running as HTTPS?    I verified the certificate public key is installed in the "Managed Trust" list.  The site is using NTLM for authentication.

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

.NET 3.5 Adds Named Pipes Support

you want a named pipe server, all you have to do is create some instances of NamedPipeServerStream to handle each client connection. I stole the following code straight from the MSDN documentation.

Multi-threading in .NET: Introduction and suggestions

This article uses the C# type shorthands throughout - int for Int32 etc. I hope this makes it easier for C# developers to read, and won't impede any other developers too much. It also only talks about the C# ways of declaring variables to be volatile and locking monitors. Developers using other languages can find the equivalents in their own preferred environment, I'm sure.

SharePoint Gets Search Analytics

Microsoft's SharePoint Portal Server 2003 was sold into a large number of organizations based solely on the strength of the search tool. Organizations hungered for a way to find the data they had generated.

Using SharePoint Search feature in ASP.Net Application

Integrating ASP.Net application in to MOSS 2007 to utilize SharePoint Enterprise Search Feature can be done by using Business Data Search.

Rendering ASP.NET Script References into the Html Header

One thing that I've come to appreciate in control development in ASP.NET that use JavaScript is the ability to have more control over script and script include placement than ASP.NET provides natively. Specifically in ASP.NET you can use either the ClientScriptManager or ScriptManager to embed scripts and script references into pages via code.
