Table-Layout attribute and MSDN claims re capabilities

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I am developing a CompositeDataBoundControl that is basically a 'table' inside a 'div', in order to limit the size of the Control and use the scrolling capabilities of the 'div' tag ('RenderBeginTag("div"). So essentially the control is; <div style="overflow:auto;width:400px;height:300px;"> <table style="table-layout:fixed;">   My problem/question has to do with the capabilities claimed by MSDN of the CSS Attribute 'Table-Layout'. See; http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms531161(v=VS.85).aspx   One of the essential goals of my Control is to limit the width and height of 'Cells' (<td>'s) in the table and let the content be clipped.  MSDN says one can do this by setting the 'width' property of each Cell in the first row of the table. I have no problem with this and it works just fine.   My problem is that MSDN also claims that one can set the height property of each row and that any wrapping of text is 'clipped' and the row height is maintained. See Remarks section; "If the row height is specified, wrapped text is clipped when it exceeds the set height".  I can't make this happen. Any time whitespace occurs in the cell content, and the content exceeds the cell width, the content is wrapped to a new line and the row/cell height is adjusted automatically to fit all the content. In other words it appears that MSD

Change grid view from table to other HTML layout

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, I'm coming at this from a front-end perspective, and don't really know how to deal with data views in ASP.NET.

Basically, I'm trying to change the layout of some repeated data from a straight table, to something more design-heavy.  It's the same data, just re-organised slightly.  The current ASP.NET code looks like this:

                    <asp:GridView ID="GVMoments" runat="server" AllowPaging="True" AllowSorting="True"
                        AutoGenerateColumns="False" PageSize="20" RowHeaderColumn="FirstName"
                        SkinID="GroupSkin" DataKeyNames="moment_id"
                        <PagerSettings Mode="NumericFirstLast" PageButtonCount="20" Position="TopAndBottom" />
                        <RowStyle />
                                <asp:BoundField DataField="moment_id" HeaderText="moment_id" ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="moment_id"
                                    Visible="False" In

SSRS Table Header working differently in and out of print layout

Please help. This is bizarre and seems like a bug to me. Using a table in SSRS, I have a details row, with a parent group and finally a header row.  For my header row, I am referencing a particular cell in the parent group. I am doing this so that i can have the header row repeat on each page of the group. This works fine when I'm not in Print Layout mode. However, when i switch to print layout mode, or print the report itself, the data that is presented on the screen is different then what is presented when not in print layout mode. WHAT THE F*!@!?? I've been battling this for a while now and i'm at my wits end. Has anyone else experienced different results from when you are in print layout mode as opposed to being in print layout mode?

Getting counts by 2nd Date Dimension Attribute with Snapshot Style Fact Table

  I have an MDX question finding hard to solve.  I have a Snapshot Fact Table with a snapshot of the records in the source system for each batch date.  All records in the fact table are assigned the batch date with the batch date key.  There are many records for each day and each batch date is an entire copy of the source records.  So, the grain of the fact table is one record for each batch date that exists in the source system.  These facts rows have another date in them for when the record was entered.  This date is different from the batch date in that the batch date is based on the day the batch was processed and the entered date is based on when the record was entered.  If a record was entered many days before, its batch date will be today but its entered date will be several days ago.  Therefore each day a copy of all the records entered the previous batch date and all the records added on today's batch date are present. Fact Table : FactSnaphshotKey (surrogate for easier administration) BatchDateKey (link to batch date dimension – date dimension, first in dimension list so it is used for semi aggregate measures) EnteredDateKey (link to entered date dimension – date dimension) Facts Count – measure for fact table - default measure from Analysis Services cube 2 Dim

Master Page and table layout

Hi, i am in the process to learn create master page using HTML table layout.I find out many resources online that use table to design their master page layout.I have 1 thing that i do not undestand:all of them using heigh= n pixel to control their footer, header, content  and navigation menu.My concern is that by doing so, the master page is fixed to only particular resolution only.In future there might be higher resolution available, the master page design need to be changed from time to time which is considered not so good programmer.OR in future, the when site need to have something like "Best view in resolution 1024 x 768", somethign like that...Is there any other way not to do so? Are they doing their master page correctly?

Errors in the OLAP storage engine: The attribute key cannot be found: Table: table_name, Column: col

I get this error on occasion while processing (full) the OLAP database, and I know that the value 822518 is part of my dimension table refered by the fact table.  I usually just re-process (full) the OLAP database and don't get the error anymore.  Is this a problem with the order in which the objects are processed?  If so, how can I change that?

Dimension key attribute changes in fact table

How do I need to handle a case in which the fields in a fact table that represent the foreign keys to the dimension tables might change? What kind of process do I have to do to the cube?

layout table width problem

I have a small problem with my two column layout which has two tables side by side. The left table is set to 80% and the right to 20% percent since I have to deal with a huge range of screen resolutions.
from screen as wide as 1900px to some as low as 1024 wide.

The problem exists in the top right cell which contains a Rich Image Field to add an image which I add images of about 250px in width. Everything displays fine on a larger screen resolution, but resizing the windows seems to the reduce the width of
of the right table causing the entire right table to move under the left column. Is there a way I can fix the width of the right table so this doesn't happen?

Ambiguous MSDN help on ALTER TABLE ... SWITCH statement

This page on MSDN contains a paragraph that I believe is ridiculously ambiguous:
"Source and target tables must share the same filegroup . The source and the target table of the ALTER TABLE...SWITCH statement must reside in the same filegroup , and their large-value columns must be stored in the same filegroup . Any corresponding indexes, index partitions, or indexed view partitions must also reside in the same filegroup . However, the filegroup can be different from that of the corresponding tables or other corresponding indexes."

What other "corresponding" tables or indexes can there be involved in the ALTER TABLE ... SWITCH statement? Why does this paragraph mention tables and indexes sharing the same filegroup when partitions of each of them can reside on different filegroups?

Can someone please enlighten me on the meaning of this paragraph?

Database Table E-R Entity Relationship Layout - please make suggestions and/or improvements ?

Not quite sure where to post this, but need some help defining a schema and E-R modelling, I'm not sure if I'm maybe making it too complex... 15 Tables in total right now

I have a store which Buys, Sells and Repairs - Laptops and Mobiles and Video Game Consoles and Printers.

This is a walk-in store, so customers can pay cash (and not have their details recorded) or they can pay by card.

When buying therefore, if ordering via the Internet, customers will have their details recorded and added to the database, but if buying in the store, customers are unlikely to have their details recorded when buying unless they are making a return.

Customers will always have their details recorded when arranging a Repair.

I think I may need separate Orders and Sales tables, because Sales may be connected through an EPOS system, but Orders refers to internet orders, I'm not quite sure about this just now.

All items marked with * denote foreign keys.

So far I have the following table layouts, I'm sure I have missed something:

Getting list of attribute values used by fact table?

I am trying to build a custom BI report with filter parameters.  One thing I need to do is get the list of valid parameters for each dimension attribute.  For example, the report includes the County attribute as one of the grouping attributes and users need to be able to filter by county.  When I generate the list of county checkbox/dropdown options in my ASP.NET page, I need to only list those counties which are referenced in the fact table.  There is no reason to list a county as a filter option if there are no associated facts. Essentially I am doing a inner join between a single dimension and the fact table, and then grouping by the attribute that I want to present as parameter choices.  The below options are what I've tried.

I am hoping for suggestions on a better way to do this or maybe improve the performance of the option using an MDX statement.  I feel like I should be querying SSAS for the attribute information instead of querying the underlying tables directly.  If anything in my SSAS cube changes that would affect the attributes used in the report, then I will have to be careful that I update views as necessary to make sure the right columns/keys are queried.

1) I tried using a group by LINQ against Entity Framework model, but that is very slow because of the way Linq uses subqueries and distinct to imple

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.

Insert value using Table Value Functions

a real gem in Sql Server 2008. mostly people still using Stored procedure may be they shifted to SQL Server but they are not using TVF right now.

Using jQuery to Filter Table Rows

The project is using the .net GridView control, so I had limited control over the output HTML code. Still, I think this code can work for most tables. One thing to notice: you should use the class "filterable" on your table or on one of its parents for the code to work.
First, we need a text box:

RadioButton Groups, Table Rows And NamingContainers in asp.net

The RadioButtonList. Very handy for inviting users to select just one item from a list although because of the screen real estate it takes up, used less and less in favour of the DropDownList. In plain HTML, the browser knows to enforce the unique selected value amongst a list of radio buttons because they all have the same value for their name attributes.

RadioButton Groups, Table Rows And NamingContainers

(In which AJAX-enhanced CheckBoxes become more useful than RadioButtons but inheritance saves the day, and a simple RadioButton-derived control establishes the purpose of a control's naming container)

Building a 3-Tier App with Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Azure Table Storage

Silverlight 3, .NET RIA Services, and Windows Azure Services Platform makes a 3-tier Cloud application easier to build: Silverlight 3 as presentation tier, .NET RIA services as the business logic and data access tier, and Windows Azure Table as the data storage tier. The sample application in this article demonstrates the architecture with a simple Survey application with all these technologies working together from Windows Azure.
