Problem updating records with LINQ, Concurrency?

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

 My project includes a grid view with some updtable fields, some fields throw an error on update and some do not and it does not really make sense. WORK_STATION_ID does not cause an error, ROOM _ID cause an error, both are int? (I am using c#) and for update I use the code liste below.using (DataClassesDataContext db = new DataClassesDataContext()) { var product = (from p in db.ASSETs where p.ASSET_ID == ASSET_ID select p).Single(); product.WORK_STATION_ID=WORK_STATION_ID; product.ROOM_ID=ROOM_ID; db.SubmitChanges(); }    Row not found or changed. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. LINQ query with multiple joins, problem

I am using a LINQ query with multiple joins, the last join does not return any values even though values exist in the database. Below is my code.

when the query returns suiteNameTrg and SuiteTypeTrg are empty, all other values are returned correctly.

string suiteNameTrg = string.Empty;
            string suiteTypeTrg = string.Empty;
            using (DataClassesDataContext db = new DataClassesDataContext())
            {
                    var productQuery = from assets in db.ASSETs
                    join relocatableUnits in db.RELOCATABLE_UNITs on assets.RUID equals relocatableUnits.RUID into assets_units
                    from relocatableUnits in assets_units.DefaultIfEmpty()
                   join build in db.BUILDINGs on assets.BUILDING_ID equals build.BUILDING_ID into assets_bins
                   from build in assets_bins.DefaultIfEmpty()
                   join test in db.TEST_SUITEs on assets.TEST_SUITE_ID equals test.TEST_SUITE_ID into test_bins
                   from test in test_bins.DefaultIfEmpty()

                    join testTrgt in db.TEST_SUITEs on assets.TARGET_TEST_SUITE_ID equals testTrgt.TEST_SUITE_ID into testTrgt_bins
                    from testTrgt in testTrgt_bins.DefaultIfEmpty()

Problem updating a boolean field

I have a button in a listview that updates a boolean field for the selected record. The button calls a method (ObsoleteOffice) in my BLL that sets the field (IsObsolete) to true...please see below for the code. However, the IsObsolete field never gets updated, nor does it throw an error.  In addition, the method works with string fields just fine, but nothing happens with the boolean field.  I would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on what I am doing wrong. Thanks.   //Method: ObsoleteOffice [System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodAttribute(System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Update, true)] public bool ObsoleteOffice(int officeID, bool isObsolete) { offices.OfficesDataTable offices1 = Adapter.GetByOfficeID(officeID); if (offices1.Count == 0) // no matching record found, return false return false; offices.OfficesRow office = offices1[0]; // office.DateModified = DateTime.Now; office.IsObsolete = true; //Update the office record int rowsAffected = Adapter.Update(office); //Return true if exactly one row was updated, otherwise false return rowsAffected == 1; }

Problem with listing records from table (object not found)

Hi everyone, I'm creating a website based on ASP.NET MVC 2 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Express for the database. After creating the table in database, I want to list all records in that table. For that, I use "scaffold'ing in ASP.NET to automatically generate the view file. But I encountered an error when loading that page. The error message was: [CODE] Server Error in '/' Application. Invalid object name 'dbo.Accommodations'. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Is the delete records LINQ correct ?

Linq to SQL Web Service cannot be serialized problem

Hello All, Ok so I'm playing around with Web Services using Linq to SQl. I apparently have  a lot of learning to do. What I'm trying to do below is pull data from the Northwind db Employee Table. I don't need to see the whole table, I'm just trying to select individual(s) but I keep getting the following error  "System.Data.Linq.Binary cannot be serialized because it does not have a parameterless constructor" Code Below: Thanks in advance for any advice <WebMethod()> _ Public Function EmployeeInfo() As List(Of Employee) Dim db As New NorthwindDataContext() Dim output = From cust In db.Employees _ Select cust.EmployeeID, cust.FirstName, cust.LastName Return output End Function

Problem with updating assembly references in IIS server

I have a website which is in a Projects directory. The IIS server is set up to point to that website (i.e. any changes in the /Projects version are visible in the wwwroot version), so I can run the website locally on IIS server.One of the libararies that there is an assembly reference to in the website has been updated. If I run the /Projects website using the local ASP development server (localhost), I can open up the files in the library that have been changed and put a breakpoint in them, which will be triggered whenever that section of code is executed.However, when I run the IIS server version in webroot, if I put breakpoints in the same files, the breakpoint icons disappear, and it says that the symbols have not been loaded for the current page (presumably because the file is new, but the old code is being compiled in the assembly?). I have checked, and the library reference is set to auto update, and has the correct path to the dll in the project's .refresh file.I'm confused about this, since I thought the IIS server version was pointing to the same website as the one in /Projects, which works. If anybody has any advice on things that I can check or how I can fix this, I'd be grateful.

Linq to SQL - Association Property Name problem

Is it possible to specifiy a custom property name for a foreign key association in Linq to Sql? For example, if you have an "Order" class that has a "Customer" EntityRef, that's fine.  But what if instead of myOrder.Customer you wanted the property name to be myOrder.PreferredCustomer.sqlmetal and the designer are both always using the table name as the Property name.  So myOrder.Customer is the only option I have, other than hacking through the generated file.You can change the storage option of the association attribute, but that pertains to the underlying member, NOT the public property.Thanks.

Problem Facing While Inserting records into table which os dynamicaly created

Hi,I have created table into database dynamicaly,while inserting records into that dynamic table i faced problem.The name "STD000001" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted. this error occured.I created dynamic table by ,declare @STUDENT_Table varchar(50)set @STUDENT_Table = [dbo].[GetStudentTable](@SchoolID)declare @cmd varchar(5000)Set @cmd = 'Create Table  ' + @STUDENT_Table + '(   [student_id] [varchar](10)NOT NULL,    [school_id] [varchar](50)NULL,    [class1] [varchar](50)NULL,    [division1] [varchar](50)NULL,    [educalis_id] [varchar](16)NULL,    [roll_no] [varchar](10)NULL,    [first_name] [varchar](50)NULL,    [middle_name] [varchar](50)NULL,    [last_name] [varchar](50)NULL,    [gender] [varchar](6)NULL,    [father_name] [varchar](50)NULL,    [mother_name] [varchar](50)NULL,    [father_office_address] [varchar](200)NULL,    [mother_office_address] [varchar](200)NULL,    [home_address] [varchar](200)NULL,    [father_mobile_no] [varchar](10)NULL,    [mother_mobile_no] [varchar](10)NU

Update statement not updating records and returns no errors

I am running an Update statement against an SQL database on server 2008. The update runs but does not update the record, but returns no errors. The database is part of a commercial help desk package called TrackIt 8.5 which was just a fresh install on a new web server and a new sql server. The update is running from a web form we use to automatically create active directory accounts. After the account is created the web form closes out the work order in the Trackit db. This was working fine when the system was running on Server 2003 and SQL server 2005. Running Trackit version 7.02. The login use to access the database has full permissions to read and write to the database, just as it did on the old server which never had an issue updating. Odd thing is, if I log onto the SQL server and make a change to any single field in that record. I can then run the web form and it updates the record normally. All other update statements that are running on other databases are running fine. Anyone have any suggestions on what to check that may be causing this issue?

LINQ: Problem in fetching data

Hi, i am developing something in LINQ, in this i am using some query for selecting data like this:var data = (from w in db2.TextSubCats where w.SubCatName.Trim()==reci_i.Recipe_cat.Trim() select w.SubCatName);but how could i fetch this data, i knows there is a solution by using foreach statement like this:foreach (var data_i in data){}my problem is this, if there no data returned by query then this foreach statment is just skipped.....so how could i get data returned by query in string so that i could perform my string manipulations... Thanks for your time.

Custom Webpart not working on "My Profile" page but works on all other pages. Linq Problem?

Hi, I created a publication site and in that site i created pages with specifique metadata (using a pagelayout with a custom content type)0. My webpart is getting data from those pages and displaying it. My webpart works on every page except on the "my profile" page(overview tab). I get the following error: Invalid Url: /TestSites/course I used the SPMETAL to create a class and i'm using this class to retrieve the data from the pages (with linq). The url i give to the entity is http://pcp/TestSites/course  this works fine on every site except on the my profile page. Can anybody help me? Here is the code i use to retrieve my data: EntitiesDataContext ctx = new EntitiesDataContext(courseSite); //Code below gets only the pages with a courses contentType. //EXCEPTION TRIGGERT ON THE FOLLOWING LINE IF IN PROFILE PAGE EntityList<Courses> course = ctx.GetList<Courses>("Pages"); //Writing the query to get the correct pages(with the course page layout only! var Query = from myCourse in course.ToList() where myCourse.CourseParticipants.Contains(myWeb.CurrentUser.LoginName) Select new{myTitle = myCourse.CourseTitle, myCompany = myCourse.Company, myPath = myCourse.Path, myName = myCourse.Name }; Thx.

GridView updating problem

Hi all,

I'm trying to edit fields in my gridview, but for some reason it's not working. I've tested the sproc, and there's no apparent reason why it shouldn't work. When debugging the app and looking at e.Command.Parameters in both Updating and Updated (SqlDataSource), it only shows me the old values, which, to me, implies that this is the problem - it's not sending the updated values.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Cheers! :)

Updating Multiple records at 1 time.

You got to love management, they can never make their minds up on what they want.

I'm currently working on a asp.net project using a datagridview that acts for the most part like a spreadsheet.  What I have to do now is update all the values in the table from the selected date, hour, min, max and cost forward.  There are 7 days worth of data in the table, when the user alters either the min, max or cost I need all the values in that field from that point onward to have the new altered value.

Here's an example:

In hour 10 of the day the user want to increase the max from 5 to 19, the min stays the same and so does the cost.  Mind you any or all of these values could change.  The only once that will remain as-is is the Date and Hour field:

Date Hour

Problem with assembly reference not updating

I have a solution A which references an assembly in solution B. I added the reference to the project in A by right clicking on the project > add reference, and finding the dll in the bin/Debug folder of the project in solution B in the Browse tab.
However, the reference to assembly B is not being updated in solution when I update the code in project B, even though I am making sure that I recompile the code in project B and then in project A. This means I am unable to debug A properly because the source code does not match the executable (I've checked and the location of the file the breakpoint is added to is correct).
I can go into the bin/Debug folder in project B, the date modified fields for the dll and .pdb files in
