Moving Membership tables to production; empty

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 30, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hi all: I'm currently moving my application from my testing environment, onto our live environment.  I've moved my database, including all membership tables over, and everyting is empty.  Again, this is what I wanted.  The test environment had far too much "crap" data, including fake user, so I wanted to just start from scratch on the production environment.  I don't know how to re-create the application or the first user though in these membership tables??  I'm sure this isn't an odd thing to do, but I havent' had any luck yet with finding an answer of how to do this.  Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Terri-Lynn

Moving a feature from dev server to production server

Hi, I have created a feature in my sharepoint development server. The development server is one location and the production server is in another location. After testing the feature in the dev server, I am not sure how to move the feature to the production server. I want to move only that feature, that is newly created and not the whole site. How to move a feature from dev server to the production server. Please explain the steps in detail, if possible. Thank you

Extending membership tables

Any reason not to add fields to these tables, or is this just as easy as creating tables to join to aspnet_roles and the like?

Dealing with empty sql tables in queries

I have a sql query that queryies tables from different instances, I thought I had this issue resolved using this " Select Count(*) from SIMS where SIMS_ID in" however when i did a little further checking I realized it wasn't returning what I thought it was.

I thought it was checking to see if the table was empty or not, if it was empty then it would just return the "Else '0' at the end of my sql query, However i just realized that it was returning the amount of rows in the table.

The query is supposed to return a value from the Designated_Amount table if it meets the Where statement criteria, if it doesn't it is supposed to return "0".  The problem that I have is that the SIMS table does not have to have anything in it until an event happens that causes the user to insert data, that could be next week or next year.  In the meantime i have to be able to query the table and return some value.

How do I deal with queries against an empty table?

Here is my sql query:

SELECT   TOP (1) CASE WHEN V300938F <= '.1' THEN

ASPNET Membership tables?

How can I sync up the aspnet membership tables among 2 different databases?

Must I use Membership tables?

I have noticed that asp.net Membership tables take space and without I use many of its features. Now if I want to create my tables from scratch will that break to security of my application?

I need help with adding membership tables to app_data folder database

The following code is used to add the asp membership tables to an already existing database instead of creating a seperate database for membership and having two databases in the application.

aspnet_regsql.exe -S .SQLEXPRESS -U username -P password -d databsename -A all

It works fine by adding the membership tables to the existing database that is located in the c drive, program files  sqlserver folder.

But my database however is not in the c drive but located in my asp website app_data folder, so the above code does not give any error and the tables are not added after I run it.

Please how can I now add the membership tables using the above code when my database is located in the website app_data folder, thanks

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Temporary Tables - MS SQL Server

Usage of temporary tables in MS SQL Server is more developer friendly and they are widely used in development. Local temporary tables are visible only in current session while global temporary tables are visible across all sessions.

Temporary tables in SQL Server vs. table variables

When writing T-SQL code, you often need a table in which to store data temporarily when it comes time to execute that code. You have four table options: normal tables, local temporary tables, global temporary tables and table variables. I'll discuss the differences between using temporary tables in SQL Server versus table variables.

How to check for null/empty strings on dynamic objects?

What is the proper way to check for null or empty strings on dynamic objects? This is the only solution I've found so far:

if (admin.PasswordHash.GetType() == typeof(DBNull) || admin.PasswordHash == string.Empty)

If the field is null, the object returned is DBNull.Value, but if the field is empty string, it's return as a System.String object. This makes it impossible to do regular "admin.PasswordHash == DBNull.Value" check, as that will fail whenever the field has been set to empty string. Is my example the right (and only) way to go?

Multiple membership providers

In my web.config I have:

        <add name="ADProvider1"
        <add name="ADProvider2"

If I just have ADProvider1 it works, when I add ADProvider2, even though for testing I only use ADProvider1 I get an error: "Unable to establish secure connection with the server"

Am I adding the second provider to the membership section incorrectly?

Replacement options for Membership

Hi everyone,
     I tried to use Microsoft's Membership option for signing up new users and authenticating them on subsequent pages, but it has not worked very well. The biggest issue has been with the REMEMBER ME function. With this checked, I am randomly logged out in the middle of some functions and some pages always show me as not authenticated, while others properly show me as authenticated. I built a site based on VB.
I was wondering what other people are using ro register users and monitor authentication and also if anyone has had better experiences with other solutions.

Pass ASP.NET membership identity object across domain?

I am trying to figure a way to SSO with ASP.NET membership and role model.

I can implement custom membership provider which consume web services hosting on a server.

With encryption of data. No problem.

But my question is, If I sign on a website with my provider, got my identity object on that application,

could I pass it to another website on another domain which use the same provider and by doing so, do not need to login again?

If this is possible, I am going to implement this solution. Please tell me what's your take on this.

Membership Search user

Is there a membership function to search a username Like this:   LIKE '%UserName%' ?

This is not working.

MembershipUser User = Membership.GetUser("%" + TextBox1.Text + "%");

Thank you.

Membership Provider Conn String

Hello. I've bee successfully using the Asp.Net Membership Provider in my VB.Net 3.5/SQL 2005 web app for a year now (Site A). However, I've added 2 new sites (B and C) (both with their own DB) and now I see a problem. It looks like users that get created for sites B and C also get created in site A. Roles that I create for B and C only get created in A. I think it is a conn string problem.

When I created A, I adde the conn string to my machine.config (not sure why I did this or if it is even needed)...

         <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=VS689\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=SiteA;USER ID=sa;PASSWORD=123456"/>
