Visual Studio 2010, MVC2.0, IIS7, .NET4 deployment problem

I have a problem where I can get an MVC2.0 application using .NET3.5 running in IIS, but when I upgrade it to .NET4.0, the browser just reports error 500 Internal Server Error. The problem is easy to replicate as follows.  Firstly, to show it works with .NET3.5: Create a new MVC2.0 application in Visual Studio 2010, using the inbuilt starter template. Run the application using the development server, and the Home & About pages display fine. Publish the application to a directory. Copy the directory to a subdirectory under inetpub/wwwroot on my Vista computer, running IIS7 Create a new application in IIS Manager & select the DefaultAppPool (integrated pipeline) Browse the application and Home & About pages are displayed. Then the problem I have is after upgrading to .NET4.0: Change to .NET4.0 for the project in Visual Studio Build & this runs fine with the development server. Publish the application & set up IIS as before, except choosing the application pool ASP.NET v4.0 (integrated pipeline) Browse the application, and I get the 500 Internal Server Error I'm guessing there is some extra configuration required - can anyone help? I've deliberately used the default MVC installation to eliminate any variables caused by my programming .. Thanks in advance, Steve

Windows 7 (64x), Visual Basic Xpress V10, Sql Server Xpress V8R2 -Deployment results in Attempt to a

Hi all, I'm at my wits trying to figure this out.  It's a new 64x computer running Windows 7.  I've installed Sql Server Express V8 R2. The connection string is user instance = true.  And the database is located in a directory off the main directory to which the connection string points to. The error I get when starting up my VB Express 10 app is "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file ‘C:\datadirectory\data.mdf’ failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located in UNC share. I've attached the database using sql server manager v10, and can see the data. Googling his error, there seems to be a lot of web-aps seeing this as well. I did have a problem after I installed sql server version 8 r2, just trying to create a database.  That was resolved by going through the IIS -configuration. If I can provide any other information, please let me know.  Cheers

Customize Deployment in Visual Studio 2008

hi all,

I need to deploy my application using setup. I worked some what in setup project avaiable in 2008 like web setup and windows application setup. Now i have some customized scenario. So please read the following scenario and give a good suggestions and steps to do that..

Scenario:

My main application is Web application. When my setup started install this web application with and then continue to database setup. After successfull,  setup continue like optional compents setup like our msdn setup. Here we have more windows services to install. Some windows services are mandatoru and some are optional like extra feature to the user. I think i show all the services with checkbox so the optional services can select by the user. After confirm each service will install one by one. The setup finished after all the services installed..

Please guid me which is best to way to creat deploment project like this...

Some of my doubts..

    1. I created setup msi for each windows services by adding service project as custom action and this setup work successfully.. How can i continusly install all these services one by one from mail setup?

    2. I have nearly 10 windoes services. Visul studio not have a interface with these much checkbox

Setup & Deployment In Visual Studio 2005.

Hi,

I am using Visual Studio 2005. i have created setup, and installed it successfully.

Now if i run it again it give messageBox =  Another Version Of this product is already installed.Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove on the Control Panel.

But I want, if the is product is already installed, then it shoule uninstall and install new setup.

Or if product already installed it should tell user that product is already installed. If u want to install it first uninstall it and then run setup again.

How to achive that.

Please tell me if anybody knows.

Thanks in Advance.

Web Application Deployment with Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2005?

Hi,

Is it possible to do a web application deployment(create package/publish sql & package/publish web) with Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2005?

I'm trying my  hand at this new feature - I have an application created in VS2010 and the backend is SQL Server 2005

I read on msdn that the pre-requisites for the database part of the web application deployment is SQL Server Express 2008 or later versions for the tutorial they posted...Is that mandatory for any deployments??

Thanks for your help! Smile

Deployment issue using SQL CLR, visual studio TFS GDR 2, SQL Server 2005.

I have a solution project that consists of database project, CLR database project, C# projects. The database project references the CLR database project. Thus, by clicking deploy on the database project will auto-deploy all projects under the solution. It is successfully depolyed locally to either SQL Server 2005/2008 wihtout TFS GDR 2.

However, in addition to those compoments, on the staging server, there are TFS GDR 2 and the Windows Server running on virtual machine. The deployment failed. The reason is that my custom SQL CLR assembly that is loaded into database requires other additonal assemblies. Those assemblies have a dependent hierarchy, which requires deletion in a certain sequence (e.g. assemblyA depends on assemblyB, thus, assemblyB must be deleted from database first before deleting assemblyA.). When the deployment happens on the staging server, the generated database tsql script try to delete those assemblies, but in a wrong way/sequence. That is the reason it failed. As I said, it is working locally. But local deployment has no TFS GDR2 and virtual machine server, which might or might not be the cause. Because the auto-generated database script is done via visual studio.

I have tried using the pre/post deployment script, but it still failed on staging server.  We want to auto-deploy the solution for staging and production server.

ASP.NET 4 and Visual Studio 2010 Web Development Beta 2 Overview

Many exciting changes for ASP.NET are coming in the .NET Framework version 4. This document gives an overview of many of the new features that are included in the Beta 2 release of the .NET Framework 4 and of Visual Studio 2010.

Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2

This is a big deal. This isn't ".NET 3.6" - there are a lot of improvements of .NET 4, and it's not just "pile on a bunch of features so you get overwhelmed." I've been working with and talking to many of the teams involved and even though it's a cheesy thing to say, this is a really customer-focused release.

ASP 4 - Whirlwind Tour around .NET 4 (and Visual Studio 2010) Beta 1

There's a lot of stuff that's new and added in .NET 4, but not in that "overwhelming-I-need-to-relearn-everything" way. More in that, "oh, this is way easier/simpler now" way. Like, moving data around with ADO.NET DataServices is easy, binding with client templates is easy, there's F# if you need it, the "dynamic" keyword if you need it, Silverlight's already installed, oh, and the parallel stuff will freak you out, but in a good way.

Short Overview of SharePoint Features in Visual Studio 2010

As you probably know, Visual Studio 2010 was announced earlier this week and it contains a lot of cool features and project templates for SharePoint developers. Below is a short overview for some of the SharePoint development related features and project templates.
