Location-Based Metadata #sp2010plaintalk

Posted By: madsn     Posted Date: August 29, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
This is the first post in a series of SharePoint 2010 plaintalk (#sp2010plaintalk) aimed at SharePoint professionals who are exploring features of the platform, typically to do feasibility assessments for applying platform features in projects. With every new version of the platform I tend to spend a lot of time digging through the marketing and technical content of the new features to understand what a new feature *really* does. We'll start out with a small one on Location-Based Metadata (sounds...(read more)

summing value in dataset2 based on location group in dataset1

I have two datasets where I pull date from for this report...dataset1 has sales by month and location and trans dataset has trans spend by locaiton and supplier.  I want to include sales in a location groups but only sales for that location in the group....right now it seems to sum up all the sales even though I put the sales figure inside the location group... how do I do that...do I use a iif function?? do I need to do something with parameters?

Is it possible to move documents to folder based on metadata by workflow?

We have a document library, which have several folders. We need a process so that documents are stored to the right place based on metadatas. Is this possible? Any better method for this? 1. User uploads a document and defines it as a "personnel" document in the metadata field. 2. Workflow(or another method) moves the document automatically under Folder "Personnel".Kenny_I

How to implement metadata based navigation/search to the documents

I have document library full of documents and each of items have managed metadata. I would like to create intuitive user interface where end-users can find documents based on managed metadata. I don't want to offer document library view as a first step interface. Which webpart suites to followings. Please suggest alternatives if my idea cannot be done. Case: End user select "personnel " metadata from treeview and press "OK/Search" and all documents which have the metadata personnel are listed.Kenny_I

Is it possible move documents based on managed metadata to Document sets

I would like to all documents who have managed metadata "personnel" to the Document Set "HR". Is this possible with workflow?Kenny_I

Data Bindings are Disappearing and reappearing based on location of other bindings on page

Using Dreamweaver CS3 to design a classic ASP page connected to MSSQL db.  When recordset is tested with a default value, all db fields are returned successfully, but when web page is viewed, random data values won't display.  If bindings are moved around on the page, this can cause other bindings to disappear with no recognizable pattern making troubleshooting the issue next to impossible.  I have never seen this before and wondering why this might be happening.  If anyone can help me, i would sincerely appreciate it!

Please clarify?

If it will chnage the positioning, please suggest how to poistion the control to support all screens widths.

How do I pre-populate document quick parts based on site metadata?

Anyone have any thoughts on how I would populate data into document quick parts?

The answer seems pretty simple with content types and such, but the complication is that I want to pull in contact information from a list local to the site in which the library resides.  For example:

A project site is created.  The company's contact information is copied down to the site via the site creation process.  A Letter Standard content type is managed throughout the site, and pulls the contact information from the list and populates the appropriate pieces within the document automatically.

Anyone done something similar to this?

Routing of Records to a particular folder (in a hiearchy) based on contents of a metadata column

Hi, i'm looking for ideas to solve a problem that is roadblocking our sharepoint 2010 records management implementation.  We have set up our sharepoint 2010 records center to mimic our existing folder based records management system.  We would like to stamp each of our documents with a piece of meta data (called classification) which contains the path to the records center folder in which this document should reside.  Our users are familiar with this structure and we can setup defaults for a lot of documents so getting the value in the meta data is not a big issue.

The issue is that we would like to create a content organizer rule that would forward a document to a path defined in a meta data column to the matching column in the records center.  I don't beleive this is possible OOTB but i would love to be proven wrong.  I don't want to manually have to create a rule for every folder / meta data value combination because there are thousdand of folders in the existing records center folder.

I'm open to developing a custom solution to this problem (or hiring someone to doe this), however not sure where to start... use the content oganizer object or a sharepoint timer job?  Don't want to have to reinvent the wheel...

here is and example of what i mean by the metadata / folder pair

How to Programmatically Upload the files based on the current location in the document library?

Sort/Filter content based on metadata

Hi forum!

I'm going to create a document library containing 1000-2000 documents tagged with metadata from the term store. After that I will create several different wiews  based on the metadata I've taggged the documents with. I want the output to be something like this;

+ metadata : customMetaData (53)
 - metadata : customMetaData (34)
        - metadata : customMetaData:customMetaDataLevel2 (20)
            Document 1
                   Document 2
                   Document 3
                   Document 4
                   Document 5

ForeignKey display values based on criteria, metadata model

I have a table with 3 columns, {id,name, display}.  ID being primary key, Name being first string in table(dynamic data will populate any dropdown's with this value, unless overridden), and Display being a bit/boolean.

I have a custom page(Master/Detail) created making use of asp:DynamicControl and asp:DynamicField.  Several of the associated Controls/Fields are ForeignKeys.  When editing/inserting the controls use the ForeignKey FieldTemplate.  Ideally, this works great!  However, I need a little bit more control over which data items get displayed from the database(selectable values).  This seems like it should be easy, yet, I cannot get my head around it.

OBJECTIVE: When 'display' == true, show name in list.  When 'display' == false, do not show name in list.

QUESTION: Is there a way to handle this within the metamodel using metadata attributes, etc...?  Please advise...

Searching for page based on metadata

Hello all! i want to know if i can parametrize MOSS search scope to search only in pages that have a template like "/_catalogs/masterpages/TemplateNews*.aspx" where * can be anything, example: "/_catalogs/masterpages/TemplateNewsWithoutImages.aspx" or "/_catalogs/masterpages/TemplateNewsUrgent.aspx"... can i do that?

Filter out documents from search based on metadata value

I currently have a document library that contains over 1,800 records in it. Each document has a metadata column called "Archived" associated with it. This property can either be True or False. Currently, every document in the document library gets indexed by the Search Engine Crawling service. I would like to filter out the documents that have the archived property set to True, so that they don't appear in the search result. Is there a way to create a crawl rule that would be specific to a particular Document Library, and that could filter documents out based on metadata?

My alternative is to create and event handler that would move the document out into another document library that won't get indexed whenever the property gets set to true. However, I would prefer to use a cleaner out-of-the-box way to achieve this. Anybody knows if it is feasible?

Location-Based Services Using CellID in Android

An earlier article about Android showed you how to interface with GPS receivers to obtain the geographical position of a device. However, not all today's mobile devices have built-in GPS receivers. Moreover, GPS does not work indoors. This seriously limits the usefulness of applications built around GPS technologies. One good way to expand the utility of your LBS services is to use your device's cell ID. This article will show you how to obtain the cell ID of an Android device and then use the Google Maps API to translate this cell ID value into latitude and longitude.

5 GridView Themes Based on Google's Personalized Homepage (igoogle)

One of the silly features I have found that I like about igoogle is how the pages color palette changes depending upon the time of day. So as the day progresses from morning to afternoon to evening the colors on the page change as well. Like I said, I know this is a silly feature, but I like it. And I have asked around a little bit and seems like other people like it to. To get a better idea of how the colors change, here are the background images from a few of the HTML elements.
