Sql Server 2005 backup misses files

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I have a SQL Server 2005 database that contains 3 files.  Sometimes when I run rhe backup, it appears to only backup 2 of the three files.  The only way I can get it to return to a full backup is to restore the database from a backup tape.

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

I have two SQL Server instances installed.

1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

Multiple XML files into SQL SERVER Express 2005

Hello. I am familiar with classic ASP and use this with MS SQL SERVER EXPRESS. I have an SQL table and want to import multiple XML files into this on a daily basis. I currently have 3 files, transferdata.vbs which loops through the XML files. FAQschema.xml which maps XML to the SQL database and test.xml shows the xml in the test file. If I run transferdata.vbs I get the following error "Error opening the data file" line 33 char 3. Microsoft Bulkload for SQL Server". My SQL table is called EnqOrd id (int), Debitor (varchar), PurchaseDate (varchar)     transferdata.vbs set objBL = CreateObject("SQLXMLBulkLoad.SQLXMLBulkLoad") objBL.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB; Data Source=XXXXXX\XXXXX; Initial Catalog=XXXX; User ID=XXXXX; Password=XXXXXX" objBL.ErrorLogFile = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\error.log" ' Here is the path to your XML files Const path = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\XML\" Dim Text, Title, oFile Dim fso, oFolder, oFiles, wsh ' Object variables Text = "Folder " Title = "XML Files" Set wsh = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") ' Create FileSystemObject object to access the file system. Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") ' Get Folder object. Set oFolder = fso.GetFolder(wsh.ExpandEnvironmentStrings(path)) ' Get All Files Set oFiles = oFolder.

Encrypting .bak files - Sql server 2005

Hi all, What options are there available to encrypt .bak files in SS2005 I'm aware of TDE in SS2008, but that seems to be only available in the Enterprise version? the company would only agree to upgrade to standard 2008 version. I'm aware I can password protect a .bak file, but that's not encrypted and can be opened in notepad. Should I be looking for third-party solutions? Regards Melt

Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005

When ever I click on an MDF file in VS2005 I get the following message.Required Components Missing.Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly.  Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URl: http:go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkID=49251.I think this may have been due to the install order and options I selected.1. VS2005 Pro, without SQL Server Express 2005 as I was planning to install SQL2005 Developer.2. SQL2005 Developer.I then noticed the above problem and installed SQL Server Express 2005 from the VS Pro DVD.  I still have the problem.  Any ideas how I can fix this ?

Why doesn't SQL Server 2005 Enterprise always shrink a log file after a backup?

I have several databases that, despite being backed up regularly, do not release space to the operating system.  In one extreme case, I have a log file that is less than 1% utilized (and has been for months.) I know how to manually force a shrink, but I should not need to do that on any sort of regular basis.  In fact, it is against best practices to manually shrink a log file (or any database file for that matter) because of the very high risk of an unrecoverable error. It is my understanding that SQL Server will eventually handle these things on its own.  However, it does not appear to be doing so.  Any thoughts as to why? Thanks, Dave

Updation of .mdf and .ldf files of sql server 2005

Hello All,

I have sql server 2005 database, which is hosted on my dedicated server. The issue is whenever i look into the default location of the .mdf and .ldf files, it shows me date of back 8 months as last modified date, although the data objects are fully updated as we make new objects everyday.

I thought it could not be a serious problem and downloaded the files to local server, then after i attached a new database by using those files and changing their names. I was wondered that it showed me the old data almost of 8 months back.

I don't know what is the problem, why these files on the server are not updating, if anyone has the solution please alert me as possible.

SQL 2005 backup and restore onto new server - for DR and testing purposes

all I have a beefy server that currenty runs my SQL server, however i would like to backup this server and restore it to a different server then use SQL replication in a DR solution.

I have W3K R2 SP1 with SQL 2005 (version 9.00.3042.00)
The phycial server has:
DISK 0 - C: (conatins OS and system files 12GB)
and E: (conatins SQL logs 124GB)

DISK 1 - D: (some program files, and the SQL DB 408GB) - Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data

all DISK's are NTFS formatted

How can I best accomplish my goal?

Should I use NTBACKUP and then do a restore onto a new server?
Should I build a new sever with W3KR2 with the same partitions and then backup the sql db via sql and do a restore onto the new server?
could I utilise hyper-v?

I do not have much experience with MS SQL server.

SQL Server 2005 rebuild indexes find corruption or cross linked files

Does anyone know if this is a known issue? What do you do when this happens? We had to go to a good backup from 3 days prior.

From the application log it appears there were cross linked files. Is this caused by the OS or Sql Server?

Will full or differential backup break LSN chain if compatibility level = 80 in SQL Server 2005/2008

My understanding is that full or differential backup will not break LSN chain starting in SQL Server 2005.  However, I'm not sure whether this applies to databases with compatibility level 80 in SQL Server 2005/2008 or not.

SQL Server Backup and Restore (video)

Restore your full backup, then run a few queries before you keep restoring transaction logs. Brent shows how to use the Standby option for restores.

In this five minute video, Brent demonstrates how to do it by creating a database, populating data, and then showing what disaster recovery is like by doing RESTORE WITH STANDBY.
