SQLCompact 3.5 NText Limit

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi my question is simple: How can i store more than 4k characters in a database column.  Im using compact 3.5 and NVarChar limits it to 4000 characters.  Someone suggested i use NText, but when i select that datatype the designer sets the maxlength to 16 and wont let me change it. Im looking to store around 10k-15k characters max in the field, whats the best (if any) way?Software Developer and Web Designer

Bug: Does not change column type from nvarchar to ntext

Scenario: If you create a table with a column of type nvarchar, populate it with some content and try to modify it using the WebMatrix editor, from nvarchar to ntext, it does not display any error message or warning that this is not possible. It silently saves and reverts the change, back to nvarchar. Wasted some hours on this issue as I thought my column was ntext, but in fact was still nvarchar.

Expected behavior: It should change to ntext, or if SQL CE doesn't support that, it should notify the user that no change was applied.

I'm facing an issue with the indexing.

I have 1 WFE+Index server+DB server.

Index server is not installed with MS FIlter pack 1.0

When crawling, the there will be document with warning in crawl log:
The file reached the maximum download limit. Check that the full text of the document can be meaningfully crawled.

Documents that with warning are such as doc, ppt, xls, docs, ppts and many others.
However, I view into the successful crawled document, there are doucments with ext doc and ppt.

For large file index, there are MaxGrowthFactor + MaxDownLoadSize required to be added into the index server.

As my understanding is, MS Filter Pack should installed into index server(already did, correct me if i'm wrong).

I looked into the Office SharePoint Seach(CA>Services in farm), if the server is appointed to "Use this server as indexing server", then MS Filter Pack is suppose to be installed into that particular server as well.

At the bottom, there also has another option is "Use all web front end for crawling".

The question here is, IF the option "Use all web front end for crawling" is selected.
Does the WED FRONT END Server required to installed the Ms Filte

'An unexpected error has occurred' on upload after changing limit

I recently changed the max upload size for attachments to TFS work items on our SharePoint site.  I did this by going to the http://tfsserver1:8080/tfs/ProductCollection/WorkItemTracking/v1.0/ConfigurationSettingsService.asmx?op=SetMaxAttachmentSize URL and entering the new size in bytes.

This worked a treat, but not I cannot upload any documents to another site on the same server.

I can open and save documents that are already there, but when I click the 'Upload' button it gives a white page with 'An unexpected error has occurred.' on it.

Is there something else I have to set when I increase the upload limit for work items?

Chunking to ntext / image columns in SQL Server Compact 3.5

Hi all! I'm trying to store (potentially) large files in a SDF, via a table with an image column.  Image columns hold up to 2GB. Every SQL CE example I've found which does this reads the whole file into a Byte array, then passes the array in a SqlCeParameter.   This is fine assuming that the file is small, or the code is run on a machine with plenty of memory.  But if, for example, you're trying to store a 1GB file on a PC with 512Mb, the whole file cannot be buffered in one go (without paging). What I want to be able to do is read and store "chunks" of a file into an image col.  E.g. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317034    I think this approach is both faster and more mem efficient.   It is possible on SQL Server 2008 etc., using either UPDATETEXT or UPDATE ... [column name].write( ..., ..., ...).   However, SQL CE doesn't appear to support either syntax. So, I guess my question boils down to: is it possible to store a 2Gb file in an SQL CE image column on a PC with 1GB of mem. (without spending ages paging) Thanks in advance, Ben.

limit ASP.NET User Session without blocking production

If the Web Site is in production and there are hits from one particular place (Say London!) and the after 1000 (or x) requests, user session should not be allowed. So what to do in such situation without affecting current production site?  Please Advice. Thanks!

How to limit SQL Performance?

I am running sql server locally as it is a developer environment. When ever i do an intensive task sql chews up all my ram and slows my machine to an almost stop. I don't  care if it uses most of my ram but the fact that it slows everything else down is extremely unproductive. When its doing the task my CPU Usage sits around 50% but the ram gets mostly used. I tried limiting the ram but this does not stop it from slowing the machine only stops it from using so much memory. I susspect its either the HDD or Ram Bas speed that is the problem.  Anyway is there anything that can be done so SQL is a little less greedy?

network BIOS command limit has been reached??

Holy cow... my website just started throwing this error whenever I try to debug.  The full error is ...Parser Error Message: An error occurred loading a configuration file: Failed to start monitoring changes to 'path to my server' because the network BIOS command limit has been reached. For more information on this error, please refer to Microsoft knowledge base article 810886. Hosting on a UNC share is not supported for the Windows XP Platform. Checked out the article, but doesn't seem to apply, as my pc hasn't changed recently...  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810886   Any ideas why it was working fine just a few minutes ago, and now it isn't?   The code on the site is working fine, it's just when I'm trying to debug.

Limit MOSS users to specific domain only

Hi guys, I need to set MOSS portal so it will be available to one particular domain user only. I turned anonymous authentication off and delete all items from  Visitors group except  <my domain name>\domain users . I supposed it had to make the trick but still users from trusted domains could login on portal. Am I missing something?

Database server connection limit exceeded..

I have an SSIS package and have been adding additional DFTs to it.  Where there are dependencies between transformations I identify them.  However where things can procceed in parallel I do not constrain them form a control flow standpoint.  After adding another DFT I am now getting package failure due to "Database server connection limit exceeded" (my local source database is SQL Anywhere and it has a max connections of 10 in production it will be full blown Sybase and will probably not be so constrained).  I think I can solve the problem just my making control flow dependencies to reduce the amount of parallel activity but I am wondering if there are other things I should consider doing.  For instance are there other settings I can tweak that tell SSIS to run parallel up to X connections out of a connection pool? (or something like that). Some may comment that this relates to my post of yesterday on package strategy (master-child packages or one big package).  I still have one big package for now but may break it into master-child.  Still I think I can control the amount of parallel activities through control flow even if it remains one package. Any thoughts or comments on this would be appreciated. - Charles PS - just ran my package and this time it succeeded - sometimes I hit the limit of 10 connections sometimes not...

Is there a limit to the length of a vb script job

This sounds stupid, but I created a ms sql server job that is activeX - language = vbscript The job is just a series of log statements. If I make the script > 300 lines long, I get errors. If I chop out some of the log statements, it works ok. Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how to get around / fix this? thanks jonathan

Dynamically Drop and Create tables, overcoming 4000 charachter limit

We have a Navision SQL-server database for 7 companies. Each table starts with the name of the company. Except for the CompanyName-part, the tables names are equal. I made a Foreach loop that dynamically transfers tables/data from the the Navision-database to a staging-database. I also want to Drop and re-Create the tables dynamically. However, if I try to do that via an expression in a SQL Task, SSIS complains about the 4000 character limit. What is a better way to do this? I want to execute SQL-commands and have SSIS replace part of the tablename with the contents of a variable (being the name of one the 7 companies). I have no access to the Management Studio or the DB so I need it to be done within the package. What is the best way to do that?
