RECOVERY_PENDING - ALTER DATABASE emergencydemo SET EMERGENCY; Fails

I have SQL Express 2008 and SQL 2008 both installed on a server. There are a variety of dbs installed on SQL Standard all with many backups. SQL Express has only 4 small dbs and it turns out these are only backed up using DPM 2010.

One of these is stuck on recovery_pending, apparently since August 31. It is a blog with irregular entries and absence was not noted.

I tried all the steps at http://sqlhera.com/BLOGS/PAUL/post/CHECKDB-From-Every-Angle-EMERGENCY-mode-repair-the-very-very-last-resort.aspx. The SET Emergency and also the SET Single_User command reports success, but then the DBCC part just says:

Msg 922, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Database 'emergencydemo' is being recovered. Waiting until recovery is finished.

At this point there is only one backup in DPM dated August 30. I restored this to a different location and tried to attach it ot SQL Standard, but it fails:

Database 'emergencydemo' cannot be upgraded because it is read-only or has read-only files. Make the database or files writeable, and rerun recovery.
Could not open new database 'emergencydemo'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3415)

It is looking pretty grim for both the database and the backup.

database grew from 40 GB to 500 GB. space is reserved no free space to reclaim after reindex completes.

I woke up this morning to find my company's SQL database inaccessible and marked suspect.

I have used various t-sql commands to bring it into Emergency mode.

Now it is labelled Loading\Offline\Read-Only\Emergency Mode.

I'm using SQL Server 2000

I do not have  a backup and I need to get the database up and running as soon as yesterday.

Win7 64bit showing my database as ReadOnly when Application Installed

Hello ,

I have faced a very strange issues so far.. let me explain you all my situation..

I have an windows application.. it's developed in the .net framework 2.0 and back end with SQL Express 2005 , and I am attaching my database file while I install application on the machine.

My appliction works okay in all the operating system with 32 bit platform but when I tried to install it on the Win 7 , 64 bit it was giving me error with ReadOnly database and can't execute query.

I have checked all permission given to folder of my database in both 32bit and 64 bit win7, it looks same.. then what could be cause of such an error.. though when I tried to run it from vs in win7 64bit (Debug though visual studio), it was working correctly..

if you have any solution.. for this problem. let me know ..

thanks..

Suspect SQL database

Deall All

I am getting this error message and my SQL 2005 database is showing "SUSPECT". I need to recover the transcations in the latest transcation log.

The log scan number (195881:359:1) passed to log scan in database 'XXXXXX' is not valid. This error may indicate data corruption or that the log file (.ldf) does not match the data file (.mdf). If this error occurred during replication, re-create the publication. Otherwise, restore from backup if the problem results in a failure during startup.

Kindly help

To force an offline restore, first take the database offline

I am doing Piecemeal Restore of Database, SQL2008 r2, Simple Recovery Model, RedGate backus

I've done

 RESTORE DATABASE adb  READ_WRITE_FILEGROUPS
 FROM DISK = 'c:\readwrite_backup.sqb'
 WITH PARTIAL, RECOVERY;

It fails when I run
 RESTORE DATABASE adb
 FILEGROUP = N''fg_100'',
 FROM DISK = 'c:\Readonly_backup.sqb'
 WITH  RECOVERY

With errors:
SQL error 4307: The online restore to database adb failed. It may be appropriate to perform an offline restore instead. To force an offline restore, first take the database offline using the ALTER DATABASE statement.
SQL error 3636: An error occurred while processing 'DbFile' metadata for database id 5 file id 72.

What is wrong?

Corrupted database , Emergency mode Sql 2000

Dear all

i'm in a situation where my database is in a suspect mode ,and that was happen after restoring a system ghost and trying to reattach the database .after some googling .. i had turn the mode into emergency mode and tried to run the command

DBCC CHECKDB(MYDB , REPAIRE_ALLOW_DATA_LOSE)

but it throws error that DB must be in a single mode , the thing is i have already run "sp_dboption mydb, single, true" before the DBCC command,

i have also tried to create a DTS and copy sql objects but that didn't work too.

last thing that i have run DBCC CHECKDB(MYDB) and return that error

Table error: Database ID 8, object ID 2, index ID 0. Chain linkage mismatch. (1:33)->next = (1:37), but (1:37)->prev = (1:9976).

which i don't know what that mean .. so any sugesting

thanks

Is realtime SQL Server Replicated database usable realtime (not offline / single user mode)

Is SQL Server replicated (destination) database replicated by SQL Server Replication fully usable? Meaning it's not just for Disaster Recovery but is fully usable from various say BI / Reporting purposes.

In the essence it is exactly same as other replication engines and the destination database is very much usable and not just offline / single user mode.

Thanks

error 3316 and database in suspect mode

Hi all,

my database fell into suspect mode. I fixed database using dbcc checkdb in emergency mode and now it seems ok. But I dont know why this incident occurs. does anybody know possible reason?

In error log I found these records:

ex_raise2: Exception raised, major=52, minor=42, state=13, severity=22, attempting to create symptom dump... followed by dump information ... and then errors 3316, 3314, 9001 (in this order)

cluster manager does not register any event about SAN outage

thanks for any answer.

'Suspect' Database

Hello,

If a database is marked suspect and good backup copies of the database and TLog are available, what steps should be taken to successfully recover the database by restoring the database and Tlog backups?

Thanks.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.
