Getting my sql database app to work on any windows pc

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hello I have just made a vb.net database application using visual studio 2008 with the service based database component. The application works fine on my pc but when i copy my application and the .mdf file and test it on another windows pc that does not have visual studio 2008 installed it  says that sql server is not propery configured and or is missing. I am just wondering how I can configure the sql server so that my application can read, save, add, delete my stored data on any pc. I tried to install the sqlsetup files but I still get the same error message. Would appreciate if someone could give some hints or help with this issue. Thanks!

Reading and Writing Images From a Windows Mobile Database using UltraLite 10(C#)

Periodically I get a request for information on how to read and write binary data to a database running on Windows Mobile. If you search the Internet you can typically find examples that are available on Windows Desktops or allow you to read and write to a local file system. The problem is that it can take a bit of work to get this code to work on Windows Mobile accessing a database.

Ultimately you might be asking, why would I want to store and image in a database? Well in an environment where you synchronizing data between a local mobile database and a consolidated (central) database this can be extremely useful. Imagine if an insurance adjuster went to an accident scene, took a picture of a damaged car, loaded it into his Windows Mobile database and then replicated that image up to the Insurance headquarters for approval. All of this could be done in a very short period of time when using images in the database. Another good example might be a doctor who was waiting for a patient chart to become available. If you could store the image in a database this chart could be sent down to the doctor's device once it became available.

For this article I am not going to get into how to synchronize the images to and from a remote and central database as this is typically fairly straightforward when using a data synchronization technologies like MobiLink

Data Points: Windows Azure Table Storage - Not Your Father's Database

Let go of your traditional relational database thinking if you want to understand how Windows Azure Table storage works, says Julie Lerman. Luckily for you, she's done the hard work to grasp the new concepts and help you get up to speed.

=User!UserID from windows authentication using table from another database

i'm using sql server 2005, sql server business intelligence development studio for my reports and deploy them in my wss3.0 site.

what i'm trying to do is i'm trying to restrict wich users can see specific data within a report.

now, the thing is. the report gets the data out of my DB1 database and my windows authenticated user are in the WSS_content database.

when i deploy my report in my wss3 site. it gets the user that is loged in. but of course it does not display any data because the tables are not in the same database.

does someone knows how to do this?

Getting AppDomain.UnhandledException event to work in a Windows Service

Nearly every forum thread I have found on "catching unhandled exceptions in a service" seems to end up where I am.  The supposed solution is the use of the AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException event.  But it doesn't work for someone, who then asks why and gets no answer.  Same for me; I can't get the event to happen.  It's as if I need the ServiceProcess version of Application.SetUnhandledExceptionMode(), which doesn't exist. For diagnosing this, I start a timer in a child object of the service and then throw an exception in the timer event handler.  Simple enough to simulate the real situation.  I have tried subscribing to the UnhandledException event in at least a half dozen locations throughout the service, from the Program that runs ServiceBase.Run() to the constructor of the object that owns the Timer, but it never catches this exception. The VS debugger recognizes that the forced exception is unhandled and takes me to the place where is thrown, letting me know it is an unhandled exception. Why doesn't my handler catch it?  Running without the debugger, the exception throws, the timer thread crashes, the service continues merrily along, and nothing gets logged anywhere.  That is NOT the result I need.  What are the people for whom this works doing that I am not doing? How can I at least get the offe

Windows 7 CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 26

Hi I have migrated to a new computer using Windows 7, 6 gig memory, I7 chip (old machine had xp) and have installed Visual Studio 2008 and  SQL Server 2008 R2.  I get CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 262) when I try to create a new database.  Other posts (example:http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqltools/thread/28fee0ed-c7e2-40df-8f79-f513c9848f09/) work for Vista but I cannot find how to grant permissions.  Run as administrator (vista fix) does not work. I have admin privaleges on my machine.  There are no other accounts.    What do I need to do to update privaleges? Thanks and have a nice day.

logoff doesn't work through windows service

Dear Friends, I am facing this problem on Windows 2003 and 2008 Server. On XP it works fine. I have written and Windows Service that takes receives the command and executes tasks such as Logoff, Shutdown, etc. All the commands except Logoff works fine. I tried following ways to perform the Logoff. However it didnt work. Try 1:                 Process.Start("shutdown", "-l"); Try 2:     [DllImport("user32.dll")]     public static extern int ExitWindowsEx(int uFlags, int dwReason);     ExitWindowsEx(0, 0); Try 3:     Process _currentProcess = new Process();                _currentProcess.StartInfo = new ProcessStartInfo("shutdown", "-l -f");                _currentProcess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;                 _currentProcess.Start(); Try 4:     Process.Start("logoff.exe", null); If I write a simple C# based applicatin (not Service) it works fine for all the tries that I have made. I am facing this problem only when I put this code

No Servers listed under Database Engine in SQL Server 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Where to begin. It's late so I hope I can be clear. I have installed SQL Server 2008. I am running Windows Server 2008 R2. I have installed SQL Server four times and I continue to have issues connecting to the Database Engine. Installation has gone without a problem at least to my knowledge I have not been presented with any errors. I have also created a local administrator account called "spadmin" to use to connect to the SQL Server database and to use with SharePoint 2010. Which brings me to the reason why I want to run SQL Server - I want to evaluate the latest SharePoint Server 2010 and WSS. Unfortunately, I have not been able to go beyond installing SQL Server and connecting to the database, because there is no database instance showing under the Database Engine, except under Integration Services. I have the following services installed: SQL Acitivey Directory Helper Service SQL Full-text-Filder Daemon Launcher SQL Server SQL Server Agent SQL Server Analysis Service SQL Server Browser SQL Server Integration Services 10.0 SQL Server Reporting Services SQL Server VSS Writer Am I missing something? I have been following several online instructions on how to install SQL Server 2008 and I can't seem to find where I may have gone wrong. After I install SQL Server 2008 am I supposed to see the default instance (MSSQLSERVER) listed under the Database Eng

Windows explorer view doesn't work on Windows 7

We are running Office SharePoint 2007 with SP2 on windows 2003 server. All windows 7 with IE 8 gets this message: " Please wait while Explorer View is loaded. If Explorer View does not appear, your browser may not support it". when click Windows Explorer in View. All Vista and XP work fine. I have tried these: 1. Added the SharePoint site on a Trusted Site. 2. Web Client is set to Automatically start, and that it is started. 3. We have Office 2003 installed on all computers. 4. We also tried to enable Comtability View. how to change the web application Database connection form Windows authentication to SQL Server acco

Hi, I have a web application created and Database connection authentication was given as Windows authentication. how can i change it to a SQL server account in MOSS 2007. Thanks in advance.

SQL Server 2008 Windows Authentication Mode fails for Database Engine, error 18456

I installed SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition (10.0.1600.22.080709-1414) on a Windows Vista 32-bit development machine with Windows Authentication Mode only (no SQL Server Authentication).   Since this is a development machine, I saw no need for Mixed Mode when I did the install.  The SQL Server Management Studio allows me to login to Analysis Services, Integration Services, Reporting Services, BUT NOT the Database Engine!Windows Authentication for the Database Engine gives the following error: EventID: 18456Login failed for user MYDOMAIN\MYLOGIN'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>]The 'fix' I have found online is to login as SA in SQL Server Authentication mode & add MYDOMAIN\MYLOGIN as a administrator for the Database Engine.  Unfortunately, I can't since I didn't install SQL Server Authentication mode (only Windows Authentication Mode).  It appears my only recourse is to uninstall, then reinstall in Mixed mode, then to login as SA in SQL Server Authentication mode & add MYDOMAIN\MYLOGIN as a administrator for the Database Engine. Before I do so, does anyone know of a better approach?Scott D Duncan

doubt about database in windows forms

i want to develop an application on windows forms application.  it's my intention that this application does its own database embed (sql2005), by other words, i could redistribuite it to several computers without the prior need that they had sql server installed.  On VS2008 i'll do new project-> windows form a application. then i'll add it the database by adding a new item to it. add new item > data -> localdatase (*.sdf).  i'll have an error: "An error has occured while retrieing the information from database. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation".  Now i'll belive that i'm doing the right path but... stuck here. help?  Another question, since its a local database is it possible to add sp? because on webprojects i add the option to add sp but i can find it now.  And i can open this mds file on MS Server Studio Express. Help?

What is the best way to develop a multi-page Windows Application (i.e. work like a web app - no pop-

Hi, I have implemented a toolstrip and want to use this as my menu to change current page (just like a web application). I DON'T want extra forms popping up.    I ask this question as in the past I have always used TAB Control, but now that I'm using the toolstrip I don't require the Tab Buttons themselves. Can I hide these buttons, during runtime. Obviously I only need one tab displayed at a time. I have looked at using a panel, but that means I can't flick between panels during design stage. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks. John.
