How to setup the premission by using role and schema in MS SQL 2005

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
At MS SQL 2000, it has two groups of users - u1 & u2 which have the difference permissions to the tables & stored procedures.  It setups 2 roles - r1 & r2 to define two sets permissions and grants the permission (select, exec, ...) to these 2 roles - r1 & r2 in the defined Tables and Stored Procedures.  After upgrade from MS SQL 2000 to MS SQL 2005, it has the schema & role.  How to setup the role & schema to meet my requirement?

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Updati

Hi This has me somewhat perplexed! I am attempting to install a SQL Server 2005 KB970894 patch (having downloaded the patch to apply it locally rather than using Microsoft update - which also fell over) . It updates all but Database Services! I am receiving "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Updating Installed Files. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified." Things I have checked: I am running this on Windows Server 2003 R2 as a Domain Admin I have checked that the SIDS are current for the Local User Groups using PSGetSid as listed in the microsoft support article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925976 Having set "Show Hidden Files" in Folder OptionsI can't find the file C:\WINNT\Installer\MSI1DC.tmp (however it may have bee removed during a "clean up"). Getting .net framework 2 not installed, when setup sql server 2005 express, though framework 4 is in

My platform is windows xp professional sp3, on a dell pc.  I want to install sql server 2005 express edition. sql server 2005 express edition service pack 3, download page, published date 12/15/2008, states "Install .NET Framework 2.0 or later", note the "or later".  It also states windows xp. .NET Framework 2.0 download page states windows xp sp2, and I have seen forum postings about a problem when it is xp sp3. .NET Framework 4 (Standalone Installer) download page, date published 4/12/2010, states windows xp sp3. I download .NET Framework 4, i.e. dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe, and install it. I download sql server 2005 express edition service pack 3, i.e. sqlexpr32.exe, and run it, and it does some file extractions, and then message "The Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 is not installed. Please install before running Setup." Is this the expected behaviour?  Would I be better using sql server 2008 express edition? Other info: There was a .net framework 1.1 on the pc to begin with, but I removed it, and ran the sql exe again and still the message. There was and is a sql server desktop engine on the pc, though it's never been used.  Thank you for any help you can give with this. ----Philip

SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 Setup

I am attempting to upgrade a SQL Server 2005 install on a Windows XP SP2 machine and every time I run the SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 Setup, I get to the page for Authentication and click next.  Then a dialog pops up that says Authentication Verification: Please wait while your authentication is verified.  It hangs here for a few minutes and then eventually shuts down the machine.  Has anyone experienced this before?  I can run the SP2 ugrade on the machine just fine and it goes through the authentication step without issue.  I tried uninstalling sql server and reinstalling it to make sure it wasn't something with the sql server install.  I also tried to clean up space on the machine to ensure it wasn't a memory issue.  Then i thought it was something with permissions so I had another person with admin rights try it on the machine and the same thing happened for them.  What could the upgrade possibly be trying to check during authentication that would cause it to freeze up and hang?

I checked the HotFix.log that gets generated and the bottom lines are
Registry: Opened registry key "System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager"
Registry: Cannot read registry key value "PendingFileRenameOperations", error 5

SQL Server 2005 Schema Replication in Merge Replication

Dear Sir,

I am using SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition for Creating & Testing Database.

I had created Merge Publication WITHOUT FILTERING ROWS and Created Push or Pull Subscription. Now if I Add or Drop column using ALTER TABLE (T-SQL) in Table OR modify stored procedure using ALTER PROCEDURE in Published Database then while Synchronizing It replicate same in Subscriber Database and works very fine.

But when I had created Merge Publication WITH FILTERING ROWS (Parameterize or Static) and Created Push / Pull Subscription and I try to Add or Drop column using ALTER TABLE (T-SQL) in Table  OR modify stored procedure using ALTER PROCEDURE in  Published Database then while Synchronizing It DOESN'T REPLICATE in Table of Subscriber Database but tries Replicate in Stored Procedure and display error.

After Adding Column in Table of Published Database, If I Checked Article in property of Publication then it Adds column but it doesn't selects it. I also checked using sp_enumeratependingschemechenges it displays pending schema changes of stored procedure but

Unexpected failure during the setup of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition

Merge replication setup with SQL EXPRESS 2005 on Windows 7 Professional

Hi all,

I have a web app that runs on local and use merge replcation using sql server 2005 standard on the server and sql express 2005 on clients on XP. As you know, XP Pro laptops are getting hard to find. We are trying to change to Windows 7 Pro x64. I installed SQL Express 2005 and I don't see a subscription on "Sync Center" after I created local subscription using SSMS. I normally see the subscription in Synchronize in XP Pro right away.

I googled about this issue and not really have a good solution. There is one link saying Windows 7 not supporting Express 2005 anymore. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/repltalk/archive/2010/03/24/using-windows-synchronization-manager-on-x64-to-synchronize-replication-revised.aspx

If so, I would like to know what would be a solution such as can I use Sql Express 2008 R2 instead of Sql Express 2005 for client even if the server is still SQL Server 2005 Standard edition. We are planning to upgrade, but we need to hire 5 to 10 people now. My boss does not want us to keep using XP Pro.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

SQL DMO/SMO Replication setup SQL 2005, 2008, 2008 R2

I have a VB.NET program that uses SQL DMO to setup the SQL Server for replication, create the publication with all the articles and start the snapshot creation. With SQL 2008 R2, DMO is unavailable (at least with SQL 2008 there was a backwards compatibility package that i could load to get it).

I have read that SMO was available in SQL 2000-2005 and i know there were some differences, but i am only using it for the replication setup. Then i saw some in the BOM about RMO.

I am a little confused about the RMO - is that just a sub-set of SMO?

My BIGGEST concern is that i write something and it works perfectly on R2 but fails on 2008 or 2005 (since we still have customers using those versions).

Can anyone point me somewhere that talks about changing from DMO replication setup to SMO/RMO.

SQL Server 2005 Setup

I have many different clients which need to have SQL server 2005 Express installed so that a named instance can be created.

Often on 64-bit Operating systems I get a message:

The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually."

This message comes up during the SQL Server Database Services, Configuring components stage.

The status box shows:  Starting SQL Service: MSSQL$BRANDWISE (which is the named instance which is required to run the program I am attempting to install)

If I click retry, I just keep ge

Copy/Paste Role in BIDS looses setup

Hi All,

I'm trying to make a bunch of roles that are all very similar.  When I try to copy/paste on a role in BIDS, the new role seems to be missing all it's values on the Cubes, Cell Data, and Dimension Data tabs.  Am I doing something wrong here?

The duplicate role function works fine in SQL management studio, but I prefer to do everything from BIDS so I can retain source control.  If the copy/paste function doesn't work in BIDS, is there an easy way to make changes in SMS and bring them back to BIDS in a way that retains source control?

I'm using SQL 2008.
