Procedure to move all SP 2010 databases from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 R2

I have a single SharePoint 2010 WFE with a single SQL 2005 64-bit backend.  I need to decomission the SQL 2005 server.  What is the best procedure to move all the SharePoint associated databases to SQL 2008 R2? I have already read this MS doc on moving all databases: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725.aspx So the actual move procedure is standard SQL fodder. What I'm not clear about is what to do about the "other" SharePoint databases and how to reassociate them once the DBs are on the new SQL server.  For example, the Usage and Health DB is going to "Wss_Logging" and it specifies my old SQL server.  It is greyed so I cannot chagne it in Central Admin.  How do I let SharePoint know that these databases have been moved too?

Run Reporting services 2005 with databases housed on SQL Server 2008?

Hi, I have a RS 2005 install in which the ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB databases reside on a different SQL Server 2005 server. I am planning to upgrade both to 2008 at some point but would like to do the SQL database engine first. So I would be running something like this: Server A: SQL 2005 Reporting Services Server B: SQL 2008 database engine - housing ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB Is this configuration supported? If I do this would I just need to run the DB's in 9.0 compatibility mode until we upgrade the RS server? Would it be better to upgrade the RS box first or both of them at the same time instead of doing the database engine first?

Run Reporting services 2005 with databases housed on SQL Server 2008?

Hi, I posted this in the RS forum as well but was thinking it would be better here. I'm not sure if I can move a post to  a different forum or not so sorry for the double post. SQL SERVER 2005/2008 Proxy Account Set up

Hi All,I need to clear the logic behind Proxy account in SQL server 2005/2008.1.If i want to create a proxy account to run the xp_cmd shell system stored procidures ?2.And if i want to run the job steps what i understand here is:For:1 .above we can create a SQL/Windos Login and we can map this login to master database. it will create a user in master database, and we can aisign this user in master database xp_cmd shell extended strored procidure access from the securibles node or by running the scripts, however if this login/user dont have sysadmin access he can not run the xp_cmdshell extended stored prcidure in sql server query analyzer to achieve this task we need to create a credential using the EXEC sp_xp_cmdshell_proxy_account 'Windows LOGIN NAME','Password'.Here 'Windows LOGIN NAME' can be any windows account having least privilage(can not have syadmin privilage). For 2:To Run job steps using proxy account is where we have to use gui(off course ready scripts also)  but for that we need to create a cridential first if you are using gui:a) give name of cridentaial b) choose any windows account(haveing no sys admin access) and give the password for this windows account, make sure you are giving the correct password here.so now credentail part is done now go to proxy under sql server agentright click on proxy> new proxy> give a name to proxy, in credenti

Considerations with 2005 Cluster when removing 'BUILTIN\Administrators'

I have taken the descision to remove 'BUILTIN\Administrators' group from my clustered instances. This is not done before I inherited this environment and some violation in my oppinion is happening on the SQL Servers. To do this Im asked to generate a risk assesment report. I have a couple of questions, but first my intended aproach. Today SA pwd is unknown to everyone, even me. If it's needed pwd is reset to something temporary, and a job resetting the pwd is created. To secure access I will create a AD group, add this group to the sql server and grant this domain group the sysadmin server role. I will also generate a new SA pwd and redesign the temporary SA pwd solution to reset the pwd back to whatever I generate. This pwd will go into a safe. I know how to fix it if I loose all access to SQL Server, by using a startup flag and then adding another domain group, should some clumsy admin drop the one I created. To my question, does the cluster service account need to be a member in this SQL access account? The SQL Service account, and SQL Agent is to be incorporated into this new domain group. My account and some other DBA will have their accounts added. No accidental DBA's will then have access from this point forward. What kind of application errors can I expect? The cluster hosts the databases for about 60 different applications. Can I Trace who logs on with the '

Maintenance job fails after removing one of the databases

I recently did an upgrade of an application with several databases. After the upgrade I noticed that one of the old databases, wich is part of the maintenance plan are no more, it's deleted and after that the mainenance plan fails, of course. But my question is, can I remove the deleted database from the maintenance plan or do I have to do as I've used to do, create a new maintenance plan ? The deleted database are not shown in the mainenance plan wizard MS SQL 2005 sp3 Sincerely \\Jonas B

Cluster SQL 2005 SP3 (system databases)

Hello All !

I have a MSCS cluster Windows 2003 Ent SP2 R2 (2 nodes en Active / Passive) and I install SQL 2005 SP3. I need to install 2 MS SQL Server instances on this cluster.

I have volumes shared disks: - Q for Quorum, M for MSDTC, L for logs, S for Datas, T for TempDB, X for Indexes

I want to put system databases on Y.

I have a doubt:

I have 2 SQL instances (ISQL1 and ISQL2), do I need a separate volume for the system DBs (master, model, msdb, tempdb) per instance?

or  do I need one volume for all the system DB (Y) for the 2 instances?

Thanks for advance for your ideas / help - Regards - Have a nice day ! RHUM2

Error during installation of SQL Server 2005 when typing the domain account

I am installing SQL Server 2005 on a server (Windows Server Enterprise Edition 2003 SP2) that is not domain controller and on the screen "Service Account" I checked the box "Customize for each service account" and typed a domain account (it has permission to "logon as a service"), its password and domain, and when I click the "Next" button, I am getting the error below:

"SQL Server Setup could not validate the service accounts. Either the service accounts have not been provided for all of the services being installed, or the specified username or password is incorrect. For each service, specify a valid username, password, and domain, or specify a built-in system account. "

What's happening? Why is this error occurring? What I have to do for this error does not occur?

Thanks for any help me to solve this problem

(Note : Excuse me because my English isn't very good !)

Removing duplicate managed account used by ForeFront

I know that reinstalling the farm will take care of the problem, but I am still hoping there is got to be a better way.

There is a duplicate managed account. When I try to remove it with remove-spmanagedaccount, it blows up with "The account xxx is still being used by ... User Profile Synchronization Service..".

Forefront console does not run.  Forefront services are stopped and none of them has this account. What else can I try?

Reporting Services account for a data-driven subscription - SSRS 2005

Hi.

I need to create a data-driven subscription that delivers a report to a shared folder. The Reporting Server service execution account is the LOCAL SYSTEM and so the subscription finishes with error. If the execution account is my Window login, the report are saved correctly in the shared folder. Is it possible to specify LOCAL SYSTEM as the execution account for the Reporting Server service in order to implement a subscription or not? Can this execution account to be different respect to the user name to specify in the data-driven subscription?

Many thanks for your suggest.

Migrating SQL Server 2005 databases, including SQL Agent jobs and SQL users

Hi,

I should begin to migrate all my data from a SQL Server 2005 (x86) SP3 to another server with SQL 2005 (x64) SP3 installed. About moving the Databases, I think that detach and attach them won't create unexpected problems.

The problems that scare me are:

  1. Migrate the SQL Agent processes. I've created so complex jobs that I'd rather swim across an ocean than rewrite them.
  2. Migrate Users. There are near 70 users with integrated security and each has different mappings to the 40 DBs. Unfortunately there's no domain, so I don't know whether it's possible to copy them without changing their GUIDs.

Does anybody know if my goal is within reach?

Can someone tell me which step to make (and in what order)?

Thank you very much.

SQL 2005/2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster - Service only starts when account is local admin

I have a single node Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster configured with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition installed as a clustered instance.

I am having an issue where the SQL Server service will only start using TCP/IP when the service account is a member of the local admins group. To get SQL to install I had to add the sql server service account to the local admins group.

I have configured group policy with the permissions required for SQL Server 2008 and this is correctly applied to the node.

Errorlog shows the following...

SQL Server 2008 / 2005 Databases Replication

Domain One - abc.com (IP Address scheme - 185.192.X.X)
Domain Two - xyz.com (IP Address scheme - 10.200.X.X)

There is a Forest level trust between those 2 domains.

Can you please help me if there is there any way that I can replicate the datas in 185.192.1.200 Server to 10.200.18.15 Server (which has both Ms Sql Server 2005 on it) - which will have same database in both servers. There is a chance to link those 2 servers in those 2 networks and store datas at the same time on each servers. So that if one goes down, staffs can log into another one without any down-time to access data from another server's database (which is the replica of the primary DB server). Please let me know & also if there is any good resource about that the same.
