Tab container rendered with visibility:hidden - This was reported over three years ago.

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Here is (more) code that demonstrates the issue.  If the control in the host page is removed the tab control renders correctly.  Otherwise it is rendered with the visibility attrubute set to hidden as reported in the above link.  Is this broken or am I doing something wrong?

AJAX TabPanel content are always visibility:hidden, display: none on all but first tab

I am trying to use the TabContainer/TabPanel controls to create 3 tabs. The tabs themselves will always appear, however, only the first tab will ever display. When I look at the source of the page, I find that the 2nd and 3rd panels have style="visibility:hidden;display:none" on them. The only time this is not true, is if the content inside the tables is text that is on the source, nothing generated.

I have tried it using controls, repeaters, adding all my tabs dynamically, setting the properties of visibility=True and enabled=true. I am kind of pulling my hair out here.

ASPX coding:

<asp:TabContainer ID="aeDetails" runat="server">
<asp:TabPanel ID="placeholder" runat ="server" HeaderText ="PlaceHolder" ><ContentTemplate >Place Holder</ContentTemplate></asp:TabPanel>

VB.NET Code:

'   Get the content for the home page.
        '   get the announcements, if any
        '   get the events, if any

Why does my program crash when I use comboBoxCities.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Hidden;

I have a combobox and I have an event for it called comboBoxCountry_SelectionChanged when I add the following code to event the program crashes when its trying to start "comboBoxCities.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Hidden;"

I have pasted the c# and xaml code below

C# code

  private void comboBoxCountry_SelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e)
   comboBoxCities.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Hidden;
   labelCity.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Hidden;

   if (comboBoxCountry.SelectedItem.ToString().Contains("United States"))
    comboBoxCities.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Visible;
    labelCity.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Visible;

   else if (comboBoxCountry.SelectedItem.ToString().Contains("Canada"))
    comboBoxCities.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Visible;
    labelCity.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Visible;

XAML code

Visibility="Hidden" - Not hiding

I've notice that in Expression Blend, it's with Visibility="Hidden" are not visible, which makes sense. In VS, they are not?

Is there some way to toggle this logic \ can someone explain why on earth you'd want it this way?

Linq to Sql CompiledQuery container

Ok now let's go. Here is just a little trick but with some interesting patterns that could be useful in some other contexts not connected to Linq to Sql.

When using Linq expressions, like with Linq to Sql, translating the expression into something else (sql for example) is taking time and resources. Sometimes it's negligible, sometimes not...

WPF / Silverlight tutorial: Visibility property and binding

Visibility property is a very powerful and yet often overlooked property available in both WPF and Silverlight. It enables you to set Visibility of certain UIElement objects to different states like: Visible, Collapsed and Hidden (not supported by Silverlight). This tutorial shows you how to use it and how to bind to Visibility property

*.axd script references not being rendered to browser

I'm running VS2010 with .net 4.0, and am running into issues with the .net ajax script tags mysteriously not being rendered to the browser.

So far I've reduced it to a scenario where I set the DataSourceID property of a databound control.  More specifically, I've only tested it on a Gridview and a DropDownList.

This can be reproduced fairly easily on my machine by following these steps:

1. Create a new empty Web Application Project

2. Create a new Web Form

3. Add a ScriptManager inside the form

4. Add a DropDownList and a DataSource (I used an ObjectDataSource)

5. Set the DataSourceID property of the DropDownList to the ID of the DataSource.  This can be done either declaratively on the .aspx page, or in the code behind in the aspx.cs page, and both produce the same results.

6. Open the page in a browser and watch as you get a javascript error stating "Sys is not defined" and notice that the page source contains no script tags referencing *.axd scripts.

Here's my source code showing my set up:

<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="ScriptResourceFAIL.Default" %>

Hidden variable has no value

I know I have a valid solution, but the js is telling me that the value in the hdnRecordSaved variable has no value!
Even when I specify in my function the following, it still tells me it has no value:
var myTextField = document.getElementById('hdnRecordSaved');

When I put the full value of the variable in (ctl00_ctl00_cphTopCenter_cphCenter_hdnRecordSaved.value), I get the correct contents back ("1"), which I set in my code behind. However, I would prefer to just put the short name in since the masterpages may change, etc. Unfortunately, I know I can get around this with VS2010, but we are using VS2008.

What am I doing wrong with the js naming conventions that can't give me the contents? Here is my below js.

<asp:Panel ID="pnlMapFields" runat="server" ScrollBars="Both" Height="430px">

<telerik:RadTreeView ID="RadTreeView1" runat="server" DataTextField="Description"

DataFieldParentID="MapFieldparentID" DataF

Re-positioning an HTML container with javascript onresize with a Master page.

I have an HTML <div> container that I float to the right of a gridview.  When the browser window is maximized, it looks fine.  When minimized, the gridview positions below the floating container and most of the data is pushed off the bottom of the browser - you have to scroll down to see it.

If I position the floating container above the gridview it looks fine in a minimized window, but looks real bad when maximized.

What I want to do is use a javascript: onresize event to re-position the floating container up or down depending on the window.inner.width AND do it with a Master/Content page structure AND do it for only the one page where needed.

I can capture the onresize event and display the window dimensions but haven't figured-out how to do it with a Content page that still uses the Master page.  I think I'm having a very "thick" week...
