SQL 2008 Upgrade Replication failure

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
we upgraded to Sql 2008 standard edition last night from 2000 and our replication is now failing, cannot delete it or enter new ones.   I found one article saying the following stored procedures need to be run to upgrade the replcation:   exec sp_vupgrade_replication  exec sp_vupgrade_repl_metadata   however the first one throws and error and the second one seems not to exists.  does anyone have any insight into this. or how to delete the replications?   the error from the stored proc sp_vupgrade_replication  is :   Upgrading subscription settings and system objects in database [SoxAuditSystem]. Attempting to copy article resolvers from SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\Replication\ArticleResolver Msg 25026, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_registercustomresolver, Line 82 The proc sp_registercustomresolver cannot proceed because it is not run in the context of the distribution database, or the distribution database is not properly upgraded.

Unable to upgrade from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 due to Reporting Server check failure

Hi all,

We were trying to upgrade our SQL Server 2005 tp SQL Server 2008, and bumped into some problem with the reporting server check.

Here were the environmental details:
- Windows Vista SP2 32-bit
- SQL Server 2005 (v 9.0.3077)
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor v 10.00.1600.22

While performing the Microsoft SQL Server Upgrade Advisor, it reported these problems on the Reporting Service:
PreUpgrade "The system cannot find the file specified." RSVDIRSEXIST
PreUpgrade "The system cannot find the file specified." RSIPADDRESSRESTRICTIONS
PreUpgrade "The system cannot find the file specified." RSCLIENTCERTIFICATES
PreUpgrade "The system cannot find the file specified." RSUSESIIS5

SQL 2008 geography type replication

Hi, I am attempting to get merge replication going between two SQL 2008 servers.  So far, everything has gone off without a hitch with one exception.  We use spatial data on a daily basis in my organization, so we implemented the geography data type.  This data type seems to be causing all of our replication issues.  I can easily create publications and subscriptions for each article in the entire database except the geography field. The error is as follows: "The Merge Agent failed because the schema of the article at the Publisher does not match the schema of the article at the Subscriber. This can occur when there are pending DDL changes waiting to be applied at the Subscriber. Restart the Merge Agent to apply the DDL changes and synchronize the subscription." The real kicker is that the schemas are exactly the same.  If I set the publication to drop and recreate the subscription article, then to convert the geography data type, it works without issue, but then we run into issues with our publication database not matching exactly with our subscription database, which could cause many potential problems with our web front end.   Is there a known issue with replicating the geography data type?  Any help is very much appreciated! - Chad

Sql Server 2008 R2 Replication

Dears, I am make a testing environment before implementing it into real world. I have 3 servers SQL 2008 R2, i configured 1 Publisher, 2 Subcribers with a merged replication. Everything is Ok. However, i have an ID field on Publisher which is autonumber(Start by 1, increment by 1). When I try to add new record on publisher, it takes it 1 by 1 i.e. 1-2-3.... But i try to add it on subscriber it starts with 20,000 i.e. 20001, 20002. I think this is logical for SQL, but can i define this number on the subscriber? So it will start on 200,000 for example? Another question, In LAN i can connect the subscriber to the publisher, it will connect to it directly, since it is broadcast. But in WAN environment how can the subscriber detects the publisher??? Your reply is highly appreciated, Thanks in advance,

Upgrade SQL server 2008 R2 from Evaluation Edition to Enterprise Edition

Hello SQL Support group, I have SQl server 2008 R2 installed on a Win 2003 R2 and it is for our SharePoint and Project server 2007 environment. Today I noticed that we have only 75 days left! Seems like we installed it on evaluation mode. Here what we have on Helpàabout : Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Complete (expires in 75 days)    10.50.1352.12 We do have MSDN account, and we have the KEY that comes with the SQL server 2008 R2 enterprise. We would like to assign the key to our SQl server ( we want to have enterprise edition). It is in a production environment now. I would like to know how we can do it  with minimum of down time. I found this link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/sqlman/archive/2010/03/16/sql-server-2008-upgrading-to-standard-enterprise-edition-from-evaluation-edition.aspx On the internet, but doesn’t say anything that we are losing any data after upgrade or not. Please let us know the best way to assign the key, and if it has any impact in our data. Thanks Bahram

Sql Compact Subscription failure - Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Sql 2008 64 bit, Sql Ce 3.5 sp1

Greetings,  Testing sql compact subscription setup on a single machine.  Can NOT get the subscription to initialize.  This works without fail on server 2003, 32 bit, and IIS 6.  I think it is security but not sure.  Using web syncConfigured publication and web sync went fine.  Key secret here was using sqlce 3.5 sp1 tools. the http://localhost/sync/sqlcesa35.dll?diag works fineThe create snapshot works fineAdded the IUSR with db_owner rights to the primary database.Added the IUSR to the publication access list. The Agent is running, I checked that.Created a new sql ce db in the management studio and configured the subscription through the wizard, like I do all the time in sql 2005.It fails with the following error codes, which I suspect are security related.  Below is the setup for the subscription:Publisher: My-PCPublisherDatabase: MyDBPublication: MyDB_PUBSubscriber: 0024HostName: 0024InternetUrl: http://localhost/sync/sqlcesa35.dllWeb Server Authentication: AnonymousPublisherSecurityMode: Windows AuthenticationError Message below:2010/03/11 15:20:07 == SQLCESA Version ==> 3.5.5692.02010/03/11 15:20:07 Hr=00000000 SQLCE Server Agent Loaded - Version 3.5.5692.002010/03/11 15:20:17 Thread=4A0 RSCB=1 Command=SCHK Hr=80045637 ERR:Initialize failed for DistributorSessionID =  02010/03/11 15:20:17 Thread=4A0 RSCB=1 Command=SCHK Hr=8004

SQL Server 2008 Install failure - Reporting Services Rule Failures

I'm installing SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7.  I'm going through the install and on the "Installation Rules" page I have two failures: Reporting Services Catalog Database File Existance Reporting Services Catalog Temporary Database File Existance Clicking on each of the failures they both say that each file exists "Select a reporting services file-only mode installation" Clicking the "Help" button tells me to "Rename, move, or delete the files" This is the only information I can find on this exact failure.  I'm not technical enough to know exactly where these files are or what they are named.  I cannot proceed any further without correcting this issue.  I'll include some of the shorter summary log files.  I can include other detail log files if that would help. Thank you so much for any help. Moving a Copy of SQL Report Server 2005 and Upgrade to 2008

Hello, We have SQL 2005 Report Server in a Windows 2003 64 bit server box. We want to create a copy of this report server database somewhere in the domain, so that we can access it for a different purpose. My question is, will there be any complications with this? I'm thinking about the encryption key that's needed to access the database. If we are successful with this, we might also want to upgrade to SQL 2008. Thanks for your help,   Elizabeth K.

SQL 2008 Upgrade Standard to Enterprise: Fail

I'm trying to upgrade an existing SQL Server 2008 SP1 Standard Edition to Enterprise.  Running the enterprise edition maintenance->Upgrade Edition wizard first got me the dreaded "Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created." Eventually, I found an entry on Connect that mentioned closing all other windows and ensuring that the installer has the focus and this got me past that error.  Now that I can run the edition upgrade through to successful completion, it's not actually doing anything. Edition still reports as "Standard" and enterprise features such as "Compress Backups" do not work. I've run the upgrade twice and restarted the system to no effect. Before I do a "Rip and Replace" does anyone have any ideas on how to actually get the edition upgrade to work? Steve G. OS:    Windows Server 2008 R2 DB:    Product: SQL Server Standard Edition (64-bit)   Version: 10.0.2531.0 P.S. Just in case someone asks, yes, I did follow the instructions located here.

Graphs stop displaying in Report Viewer Control after upgrade to SSRS 2008 R2

We are seeing an issue where certain graphs and guages are not being displayed within a report rendered in the report viewer control after we upgraded from SSRS 2008 to SSRS 2008R2.  You can see the graphs and guages render and then disappear from the screen when two other graphs are rendered.  When I export the report to Excel or PDF then all of the graphs and guages are rendered properly. There are a total of 3 graphs and 2 guages on the report - when it completes the rendering process, you can only see two of the graphs displayed in the report viewer control - as I said before, you can see all 3 graphs and 2 guages when exporting to Excel or PDF.  Using Internet Explorer v8.  This problem manifest itself right after the upgrade. Has anyone seen a similar issue?
