Speedup XML select

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I've a table with 5 columns (XMLData (schema included), UniqueID, ParentUniqueID, Insertdate, IntValue)  and 300000 rows. I have to extract the uniqueID and ParentUniqueID from the xml-Data and search throw the xml-data I created a primarykey over Insertdate and IntValue, and for the XMLData a primary index and all secondary indices (path, property, value)   Extract-code update idx set UniqueID = idx.XMLData.value('(/MetaInfo/UID)[1]','uniqueidentifier'), ParentUniqueID = case idx.XMLData.value('(/MetaInfo/ParentUID)[1]','varchar(50)') when '' then null else idx.XMLData.value('(/MetaInfo/ParentUID)[1]','uniqueidentifier') end, from TestXMLIndexing idx This takes about 60s   Select-Code select * from TestXMLIndexing where XMLData.value('(/MetaInfo/UID)[1]','uniqueidentifier') < '00000000-0000-0000-0000-07B400000000' This select takes about 11s, while a select on the UniqueID-column only needs 2.5s and it only use one CPU   The other thing is that the indices slow down the select for example select with primary key                        8.5s primary index              &nbs
