Creating a table-valued function on a user defined type in SQL Server CLR

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
We would like to be able to create a table-valued function on a user defined type.  We would like the syntax in SQL to look like it works for the XML nodes function:   DECLARE @myXml XML = '<a><b>1</b><b>2</b><b>3</b></a>' ; SELECT  node.query('text()') FROM    @myXml.nodes('a/b') nodes (node) ;   In other words, in the FROM clause, we can access the "nodes" method of the xml variable and it returns a rowset. Thanks!

Get inserted ids when inserting from User Defined Table Type

Imagine this procedure:   CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[insertActive] ( -- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here @p_data dbo.activeUpdate readonly) AS BEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements. insert into dbo.active (name, stateid) select name, stateid from @p_data END How can I get the ids of the rows that have been inserted?  I tried searching the net and the forums but could not find anything. Thanks for any and all help, Gareth.

how to use table valued function with join on table in server 2000

Hi please any oone tell me how to call a table valued function

select * from get_date_time_from_gmt ('+17:45','1879-01-02 00:00:00.000','17:30')  when i call it then it will work properly. but now i have to use columns from cricket_master

as mention below

* from dbo.get_date_time_from_gmt

SQL Server 2008 CLR Table-Valued function works exactly twice, then fails unless assembly reloaded.

Very simple TVF UDF uses WebRequest and HttpWebReponse, passing the response stream off to custom class that implements IEnumerable. First invocation has a good delay (seen many other posters on this issue), second invocation is lightening fast, then all calls after that produce this error:

Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user-defined routine or aggregate "tvf_OneMinuteBars":
System.Net.WebException: The operation has timed out
   at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()

Now, I've tried all manner of settings on the webrequest: KeepAlive, Timeout (currently 15 secs), Proxy = null. But I just can't figure it out. What is really a bummer is that I can debug invoke this against a local SQL Server as many times as I like. But if I deploy (in VS) to two different servers, or if I manually copy the assembly to the servers and do the CREATE ASSEMBLY / CREATE FUNCTION manually, it always times out after the second invocation.

Here is the tricky part: the object calling GetResponse calls HttpWebResponse.GetResponseStream(), storing the reference in a property. Then the object reference passed to the constructor of a custom class implementing IEnumerable, which does the right things with the response stream. Super fast, n

User Defined Functions in Microsoft SQL Server

User Defined Functions are compact pieces of Transact SQL code, which can accept parameters, and return either a value, or a table. They are saved as individual work units, and are created using standard SQL commands. Data transformation and reference value retrieval are common uses for functions. LEFT, the built in function for getting the left part of a string, and GETDATE, used for obtaining the current date and time, are two examples of function use. User Defined Functions enable the developer or DBA to create functions of their own, and save them inside SQL Server.

"Type ASP.x is not defined" error for dynamic user control when publishing updateable

I have a user control (ContainerCtrl) which programmatically instantiates another user control (SimpleCtrl) in OnLoad. It builds and runs fine, but when I publish it I get the error "error BC30002: Type 'ASP.SimpleCtrl' is not defined." (If I publish without the "updateable" option there's no error, but I need the site to be updateable.)

I assume this has to do with the particulars of how the assembly(ies) are built for the different compiler options. My question is, how can I get it to work properly for "updateable" publishing?

VS 2008 / .NET 3.5 sp1

The code follows (web.config is the default from Visual Studio).

Many thanks, Dave

<%@ Control Language="VB" ClassName="SimpleCtrl" CodeFile="SimpleCtrl.ascx.vb" Inherits="_SimpleCtrl" %>

Partial Class _SimpleCtrl
    Inherits UserControl

End Class

Checking SQL Server User Roles and Creating SQL Server Users using VB.NET

Hello gurus!Firstly I want to apologies if this question is out of place here.. if someone can direct me to the correct forumn great and Thanks!I have a VB.NET application which uses its own Backend Database (MSSQL Server). I need to distribute this application to sites where there will be an existing SQL Server. So I will need to Create the Database on this server. The Application includes methods for building the database on startup if not already connected to one. However the users windows logon may not have the correct permission to connect and create a Database on the Server. I have a DB Setup form in my application which asks for the Servname, Username, Password and Database name. I have catered for Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication within the form - the user makes the choice.Assuming they enter a Username and Password for SQL Server Athentication then I will be trying to connect using this user and create the database on the given server. The following is my outline logic:-                                                                  Create db Process                                                                             |                                                                             |                                                               Check Credentials                                                                   /

Best practice for user defined error messages in SQL Server 2005/2008 --Need help

My requirement is to setup a standard practice for our team in handling DB erros and also  user defined messages. We are handling exceptions using Raiseerror method with in Try and Catch blocks.  For user defined message, we are using Sp_addmessage to add our application specific error/warning messages with error codess>80000.  Ex: 80001 | Company name already exists. please check. Here is the sample code ********************************************************************* CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_CompanyProfile_insert]  -- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here  (@company_name VARCHAR(50),  @company_code VARCHAR(3),  @user_id INT  ) AS BEGIN  -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from  -- interfering with SELECT statements.  SET NOCOUNT ON;  BEGIN TRY -- Begin Try Block      -- Validate company name   IF EXISTS (SELECT company_id FROM companyprofile WHERE company_name = @company_name)    RAISERROR(90021, 16, 1)      INSERT INTO companyprofile (company_name,       company_code,       createdby)   VALUES(@company_name,     @company_code,     @user_id)    END TRY  -- End Try Block &

trying to use CASE within table-valued function

Hi, I am trying to create a table-valued function that takes a string argument and, depending upon it's value, returns one of a number of identically-structured tables (and before someone asks why multiple identically structured tables, NOT my idea!).  I am a novice with T-SQL, but I've been attempting something like this for the function: Case @Input   When 's1' then return table1   When 's1' then return table2 End ... but I keep getting errors.  Can someone help get the ball rolling and show me the basics on how to set up a function to do this?  I'm hoping since I'm just redirecting to existing tables that this function will have minimal performance hits.

Cannot call Table Valued Function from Dynamic stored procedure statement

Hello,  I have a table-valued function that splits string into a table column. I can easily call this function from a stored procedure within a regular SELECT statement: SELECT * FROM Table1 WHERE Code1 = '1' AND Code2 IN(SELECT * FROM [dbo].[fnSplitValues](@Code2String))   However when I try to use the same logic for a dynamic SELECT statement: ‘SELECT * FROM Table1 WHERE Code1 = '1' AND Code2 IN(SELECT * FROM ' + [dbo].[fnSplitValues](@Code2String) + ')’ I get an error ‘Cannot find either column "dbo" or the user-defined function or aggregate "dbo.fnSplitValues", or the name is ambiguous.’ Any idea what is wrong with my dynamic SQL?   Please help, Lana

Schema comparer mistake in table-valued function (Nullability in column definition)

Hello. In my database i have table valued function. In its definition nullability of column is not set directly. This column has a user-defined data type. So the question is: is this column nullable? As i can see here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174979.aspx   When column nullability is not explicitly specified, column nullability follows the rules shown in the following table. Column data type Rule Alias data type The Database Engine uses the nullability that is specified when the data type was created. To determine the default nullability of the data type, use sp_help. It should be not null, as user defined type is declared as not null. SMO says, that column is not null, but schema compare says it is nullable. Who is wrong and why?

SSIS User Defined Data Type (Alias Data Types) and OLE DB Command validation

Hello everyone, I've been having an issue with trying to run my SSIS package on a server, and it seems to be failing on the OLE DB Command step.  What we have in our SQL 2005 DB, is a User-Defined Data Type (base type char(7)) and the OLE DB Command is supposed to call a proc that passes in a value of this data type. ie:  CREATE PROCEDURE myProcedure ( @passedInFromSSIS MY_DATATYPE ) AS .... In my SSIS package, I have the type defined as DT_STR with a length of 7.  Now, when I run the package locally (via Visual Studio), the process runs with success.  However, once the package is deployed on a server and run from an application (note: it is run under a different user), the process fails on a validation step with a "Invalid Parameter Number" error. Now, if I change the input parameter in my proc to the base type of the user-defined data type, the process works again. Has anybody run into a similar issue or know what may be causing this issue?  I first suspected perhaps I needed to grant permissions on the user-defined data type (since I was able to run it under my security context, but not under the application's), however noticed that there isn't security tied to the types.  Any other thoughts?  Please let me know if you need further explanation.  Thanks!
