adding filter to sqldiag profiler trace

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi everyone I'm wanting to create some standard diagnostics scripts for SQL Server 2005 installations and sqldiag seems the most logical way to do this. However, I want to be able to add filters to ProfilerCollector so that I can capture data for a specific database, application, etc. I've searched but can not find any information on either adding filters - which I suspect that you can not do - or specifying filters by using the template attribute.  However, Profiler itself does not seem to export templates as .xml which is the format of the default file specified for the template attribute! Does anyone know if adding filters is possible, by whatever mechanism, and if so does anyone have any examples?  It would be very much appreciated. thanks, and regards Simon

Error adding connection filter for user profile sync

Trying to setup a connection filter for the user profile sync. I don't want to include any users in the sync with ExtensionAttribute12 = Exclude. When I click OK to confirm the filter, I receive the following error page:

I have searched the logs for the correlation ID. I found the following error messages in the logs.

Profiler trace 'automatically' reset

I'm running a trace based on the SP_Counts template which will help me track all active sprocs in a given database.  My intent was to run the trace 24/7 over the course of several weeks to capture as many sprocs as possible.

Here's my setup:

-- Server 2:  Profiler is running the trace and collecting sproc usage data from Server 1.

-- Server 2:  A maintenance database houses the table into which the trace results are saved.

-- Server 2:  Hourly, a job is run to aggregate the sproc data from the trace table into a different table; the profiler table is then truncated.

What I didn't plan or ask for - and the point of this question - is the trace being reset at around 2:30a every morning.  When I look at the default trace from Server 1, I see the sproc sp_trace_setstatus was called with the TraceID 2 (there are only 2 traces running on my production server; 1 is the default; 2 is my sproc collection trace) and a status of '2' (close the trace and delete trace info) at the time of the reset.

I've looked over all the jobs I've created between the two servers and there's nothing on either of them running at the time of the reset.  Since I'm dumping the results to a table (and did not limit the number of rows) I don't think the 'max size' property of the trace would matte

After adding filter, data fetch limit error

Alright, so i'm getting the "this page has exceeded its data fetch limit for connected web parts" error.
But it only happens if i add a filter.

Currently I have 6 lists on the page and am using 4 filters, so why can't I add a 5th filter?

Forgot to mention that I added the filters with SharePoint designer 2007

SQL Profiler & Trace flag vs Performance

Hi all,

I just wonder how much the profiler will affect the live server's performance if I capture the following event for deadlock graph.
Locks -> Deadlock Graph
TSQL:BatchStarting

Also, if I onlyopen the trace, i.e. open the 1204 and 1022 trace flag, capture deadlock info in SQL Errorlog rather than capture the deadlock graph in Profiler, will it also affect the performance, and how much it will affect?

Displaying Execution Plans by Using SQL Server Profiler Event Classes - Filtering the trace?

IN SQL Profiler you have the ability to see the execution plan for each query, which sometimes can be helpful. However, I'm not able to make use of any of my filters when profiling with the "Showplan XML" event class enabled.

Say, I want to sample only batches with a duration > 100 ms, how can I make this filter take effect? I have no problems with applying such filters when _not_ using these event classes.

I'm using SQL Server 2008.

Thanks.

Is there a way to configure a new SQL Server Profiler trace to be named same as name of the template

After I created a template and then use the template for a trace, most of the time I want the trace to be named same as or very similar to the template.   If SQL Server Profiler allows to copy the trace name, I don't mind to copy/paste but it does not.

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

Using jQuery to Filter Table Rows

The project is using the .net GridView control, so I had limited control over the output HTML code. Still, I think this code can work for most tables. One thing to notice: you should use the class "filterable" on your table or on one of its parents for the code to work.
First, we need a text box:

This article describes on how to add rows in GridView without using a database. Basically the GridView will be populated with data based on the values entered in the TextBox on Button Click and retain the GridView data on post back.

Adding Dynamic Rows in GridView with TextBoxes

I decided to write this article because this has been asked so many times before at the forums(http://forums.asp.net) . Basically, this example shows on how to generate a Row in GridView with TextBoxes when clicking a Button that is residing inside a GridView Footer.

This AJAX control enables the user to filter data within any column inside a GridView. The user can add multiple filters and can delete existing ones too.

Creating an Excel Spreadsheet and Adding Data to It Programmatically

The Interoperability services make it veryeasy to work with COM Capable Applications such as Word and Excel. Thisarticle reveals using Excel from a managed application. Excel is thespreadsheet component of Microsoft Office 2000. The majority of Excelprogrammatic functionality is exposed through Automation via the typelibrary Excel9.olb. The intention of this article is to express that amanaged application can interrelate with Excel as a COM server.

Adding Search Refinements in SharePoint 2010

I have been playing around with SharePoint 2010 Search this morning. I love the new UI. The search refinements panel is just begging to be messed with. In my case I wanted to add the file extension JPG as an Image Type refiner.

Adding Client-Side Confirmation When Deleting

The JavaScript confirm(string) function displays its string input parameter as the text inside a modal dialog box that comes equipped with two buttons - OK and Cancel (see Figure 1). The confirm(string) function returns a Boolean value depending on what button is clicked (true, if the user clicks OK, and false if they click Cancel).
